My Recovery from Obesity

67 lbs in 90 days!!! Holy moly!!!! Thats super amazing! Am I horrible to say I'm a tad bit jealous :) Just kidding, you are putting in the work and effort and you are getting the results. So it's all you, your hard work and your determination!

Great job Don!!! You will hit 100lbs loss VERY soon!

Mands, I understand. No worries. I watch a couple of other people and get a little green with envy... are you listening, MrVee?? :) The reality is that losing weight is easier for a grossly overweight guy than it is for an "overweight" woman. One of the many inequities in life, I'm afraid.

Justina and Camila: Just for giggles, I looked this up:

67.2 pounds is approximately the same weight as....

105 Burger King WHOPPERS!!

Which would equate to 70,350 Calories.
(OK, I know these numbers mean nothing, but imagine carrying 105 Whoppers!) :D

Thanks everyone for your support! I lost 0.4 pounds today, so I missed the 70 lb. mark by 0.2 lbs..... Quercus. Last night at bed time I felt VERY sick, with fever like symptoms, shakes, chills, etc. and I was sure I was going to have the flu today... but so far so good. I'm not sure what that was all about. My weight loss these last two weeks has been a bit sluggish, so I'm hoping to bump it up a notch this week.

I missed 319 by 2 pounds so .2 is 10x closer than I got. The reality is that that I lost 3 pounds this week and it's the first time that's happened in months. And you? You're dropping weight like some gym rat got hair gel on the bar!

I'm going to go pick up 105 pounds and walk around with it for a while. I just have to prevent her from calling the police.

Don my BMI is currently 32.9 which is still classified as Obese, so I can't wait to get outta that categories and just be overweight. You probably hit the 70lbs loss today! Tx for your constant support in my diary. I've finally updated it Don.

Keep it up!!!

Don - That is a huge eye opener, wow! Could you imagine carrying all of those around again? Lol. Must be a relief to realize all of that is gone already! Seriously, I am in awe at your progress, and especially at your positive attitude. It is infectious in the best way. Hope you don't get sick!

Hey Don - you are doing greeat! It's "fun" to look up items that weigh the same that we lost...

The other I was doing a DVD (exercise) and the instructor said - to do a more advanced version - you can put some weights around you legs...etc...i was like I already have enough on me as it is!! LOL! I mean seriously my body is already coping with 50+lbs.. Of course lifting weight for toning/strengthening that's a different story.

Have a great week!

Thanks for the cheers, all!

I'm coming back from a minor stomach virus this weekend. At times I felt OK, but then an hour later I was shivering and had wicked intestinal cramps. Ugh. I felt a little poorly at bedtime last night, but feel OK right now. Hopefully it's gone.

I fell off my "wagon" a bit Saturday as I ate a 6" sub from Subway. I hadn't had bread in 3 months prior. I was CRAVING the bread and my wife suggested since my stomach was ill and nothing else sounded appealing, I should listen to my body. I had only eaten a bowl of soup all day by that time (9pm), so I went for it.

Anyway, I had a small gain yesterday (0.6 lbs) and am down 1.4 pounds today, for a new low of 386.4 pounds. That makes a total loss of 70.6 pounds.

Better than that... I did REAL pushups yesterday.... not a modified pushup, but a traditional men's military style pushup. I only did a couple, then did a set of 15 modified pushups, but I did them! That a HUGE improvement in strength for me. Also, as part of the challenge I'm in on the other board, I'm doing leg-lift ab crunches, too. Wow, this is like real calisthenics.

Have a good day all.

Way to recover from that bug in style! Over 70 pounds lost is awesome! Pushups at your weight is a real strain. The upper body strength required for you or I to do a couple pushups is a big deal. I've been heavier than you are now and smaller people might not get how big of an accomplishment this is. You'll be doing sets in no time. I'll add pushups when I do situps as I can only do a few at a shot too. Nice work!

Thanks, Q! See, I figured it takes another person of significant mass (POSM? "Possum"?? Hey I kinda like that...) to get how big a deal the pushups are. It's harder than just benching 250 lb or whatever the load actually is in that position, because it requires the core muscles and leg muscles to maintain the proper position, right? I was pretty stoked. Have you been doing regular situp/crunches or have you tried the leg lifts to meet the criteria for the challenge? I like the straight-legged lifts. They really work the lower abs, which is where I am weakest.... after the first times, I got wicked cramps in those muscles, but I was able to counter them doing an "upward dog" or "up-dog" move from yoga... stretches them nicely. BTW, this is where you're supposed to ask "What's 'up-dog'?" and I get to be a smartass and say "nothing, dog, what's up with you?" :D

Yeah Don!! You are doing yoga! I can't!
I can't do push-ups - my husband showed me a cool trick - Which i CAN do and it actually worked the right muscles - first time in my life - I love it. It's a modified 45 degree angel push up! You are working less against gravity !
I can do sit ups - my personal trainer :p expects me comply with military PT standards.... so I am slow - I can only do like 5 at a tiime, then I need to rest!!!

Don I also started doing some push ups - well sort of. I lean over a much lower surface and place my hands facing inwards so I can work out my chicken wings. I think pretty much like Justina - I do it on our stairs :) Really burns those flabbies!

LOL! Whazzup dog??

Thank you, Jen! I'm trying!

Justina, the yoga isn't so bad! I used to scoff at it, then I thought I wouldn't be able to do any of it, now I'm really enjoying it! Pushups are getting better, NO way I can do a traditional situp as so much of my weight is in my shoulders and upper body.

Cory, Thanks! Some things that used to be easy became really hard as I got bigger. Apparently pushups is one of those things.

Xenon, thank you! I read your diary and left a comment for you. You're doing great, too! Stay strong and keep getting it done.

------------------------------

Good day yesterday. Lost 0.4 lbs. Ate light, but enough... and ate early and stopped at about 6pm. Drank pretty well. Maybe could have use another liter, based on how I feel this morning. Exercised really well. Walked, Biked and Yoga, PLUS did THREE standard pushups (better than yesterday's TWO), upper ab crunches (not great form), and some Lower Ab Leg Lifts (good form). Another day like that, please.

Nicely done sir, I managed a set of 5 pushups. That was a max set. Like I would have fallen on my face if I tried a 6th rep and almost did on the 5th. 33% improvement in 1 day for you. I managed a set of 20 marine crunches. I was pleasantly surprised. I did make a lot of racket and i though I might barf and/or pass out on the crunches. I'm going to try to do them every day if my POSM body allows it.

Thank you, Mands! Hey, I'm glad you laughed too... I thought it was friggin' hilarious!

Quercus, Can we go as the Possum Guys? Granted, you're a much smaller Possum than me, but still. I laughed at the "making a lot of racket" comment. I did my leg lifts and my wife called to me from the other room and asked if I was OK. She thought I was sick. After just a few days of the crunches, I feel SO much better. They are now definitely a part of my regimen. I'll have to build up to the 20 crunches.... by starting with one someday. :)

Sure! Where are we going and are costumes involved?

We are both POSMs in the 300s and you are closing the gap. I couldn't do a pushup from my knees when I was your size and no crunches either. You'll be trucking along in no time.
