My Recovery from Obesity

What do you put in your curry? I live in the middle of north butt fuck, so I can't find Thai eggplant. I've found that some kind of winter squash is a good substitute.

Glad you seem to have flushed the majority of the salt out of you!

Hey Cory, I can get Thai eggplant most of the time. My lil town still has two Asian markets and they have a few decent veggies. Can you get Japanese eggplant... long & slender as opposed to the globes? They work well too. Otherwise, I use chicken, tofu, red bell peppers, canned bamboo shoots, carrots sliced thin, onion, winter OR summer squash (don't overcook), asparagus, Thai basil, spinach leaves, scallions, and pretty much anything else that sounds good at the time.

C'mon, Laura, JOIN THE BET! I'm going to be in Jared's $50 one, but I'm also in Fit2Fat2Fit's $50 bet that started on Monday.

Thanks, Kiwi_gal, for stopping by! I appreciate the support.

Justina, I think if there was anyone here who would appreciate the Food Bucket List, it would be you. :)

Too much sodium yesterday (I seem to be on a bender this week) so I showed little change on the scales. Down 0.4 pounds to 389.8 lbs. I'm going to try to make today like Tuesday and eat clean and drink a lot of water. We'll see. Hit the bike hard last night and felt gooood. I'm going to try to make today a 2 workout day. Have a good day, all.

Way to be super motivated Mr.! I'm super proud of you for being in the 380's. That happened quick. I have to get my butt in gear or you're going to catch up with me and I'll still have my sig. I'm on it. I'll hit the 10% mark within 2 weeks.

Meanwhile you are very close to 15% and 70 pounds lost. Way to go!

Too much sodium - you know what you have to do: WATER!!!!
You are doing well :)

PS/Posting chicken paprikas pic on my thread today - I made it for lunch! :)

Way to get into the 380s. You're doing fantastic.

How are you feeling? By this point in my experiment, I was feeling awfully good, not just emotionally but physically as well.

Hey Don :) Yay on seeing a loss! 380s must feel great! There is something so mental about crossing those thresholds...hopefully a motivation for you to keep going! I hear you on the sodium...I am trying to be more conscious of it..and trying to remember to drink more water when I do intake more sodium. It is an uphill battle...haha.

Have a fantastic rest of your week. :)

Good job with the bike!

There are a couple of Asian food stores here, but they mostly deal in canned or prepackaged goods. There's not a lot of produce. I can't find Thai basil, Thai eggplant, or Japanese eggplant; however, I seem to make do. :p

Thanks Q! Don't get me wrong, but I'm going to try and catch you. I can think of nothing that would better motivate you than to start seeing me in your rear view mirror. ;) Don't worry, I think you're on the verge of having a burst here pretty soon, though.

What is it with me and salt?! I don't cheat with sugar... I look for salt. Paprikas is coming soon.... :)

Thanks, mrVee! It's funny you ask that question. I feel GREAT! So great, in fact, that I need to go slowly in taking on some things, because I am in nowhere NEAR as good of condition as I feel. I think it also is affecting my attitude a bit because I think I look better than I really do... I'm feeling healthier and lighter, then I get a glimpse in the mirror and say "oh, crap..." But my energy levels are higher than they've been in a few years.

Camila, the weird thing for me is finding a threshold that means something to me. Breaking 390 was a good thing to me, because it was hard to achieve for some reason. I think the next number of significance to me will likely be when I have lost 75 pounds... 382 pounds.

Good job with the bike!

Thanks, Cory. My stores in town are small, but both have a small produce section. An hour or so away is a store called Uwajimaya, an Asian store the size of a big Safeway or Kroger. That place ROCKS. They also have a HUGE fresh fish (sashimi) counter.

-------------------------

OK, yesterday went well. I tried to eat lots of fiber (roughage) to help my digestion speed up. Not to be gross, but I've just felt "plugged up" a bit. I ate a spinach omelet, a spinach salad, and spanakopita (spinach pie). It worked.

Today's weigh-in was 388.2, down 1.6 pounds. My lowest to date. I am now down almost 69 pounds.

I worked out 2X yesterday (fat-burning yoga DVD and a HIIT Bike routine) and I mowed both lawns (90 Minutes). It was a good day.

Awesome Don! Go back in your mind to the day you decided to make this change happen. Now, somebody walks up to you and says "I want you to do this yoga workout, a HIIT bike session, and mow both lawns. TODAY!". Now 3 months later you do it and say "It was a good day.". Way to go man!

The feeling you were talking about to Mr.Vee about feeling better than you are is because you are living the life of a healthy man and your body is busy catching up with the attitude. Quickly I might add.

Hey Q!

That is SO not lost on me. To be completely honest, 3 months ago I was getting backaches walking around in a store for 30 minutes! Christmas shopping in December, I shopped with my wife for three hours... I sat no fewer than 5 times in one store to relieve my back pain. Once I went to the men's room and sat on a toilet just to find a place to relieve the back strain. This honesty is painful to admit... but it is TRUE.

I'm still fat, but I feel pretty good!

Don, if you're feeling bound up, I've found that entire grapefruit works nicely.

I'm really happy that you are feeling so much better. That motivation in and of itself to keep going.

Great exercise routine!! Wish I had proper space for something more cardio at home.
You gonna have great drop this week!!

Cory, I've found that dark greens (the more raw, the better) like kale and spinach, or raw almonds (I don't seem to digest them...) work GREAT for me. Also, a load (like 2 Cups) of blueberries does it, too.

Justina, I squeezed a cardio bike in behind my sofa, and move a chair and ottoman to make room for the DVD stuff. It's tight, but it works. As far as the drop... who knows anymore?? You think things are going right, then whammo! :)

Oh by the way, I finished my first dietbet.com bet today and won! Yea... I get my money back! I joined a second bet on Monday and will start another this coming week. I started this past one at 409.6 and needed to lose 16.4 lbs (4%) in 28 days to win. I finished at 388 and change, so I lost 21+ pounds, or 5.3% in 28 days. The one I started this week started on Monday, the day I GAINED 4 pounds from Easter dinner, so with that weigh-in I'll have an added advantage to finish down 4%, since I've already lost that weight. I think I started at 392.8, and I'm down four and a half pounds since then.

Hey Don, be a friend and share how much you got back for winning? Did your account get credited? I plan on weighing in tomorrow morning!

Thanks, Cory!

Hey Laura, will do! I should find out soon, I think. They're waiting for everyone to weigh in to calculate the "winnings".

----------------------------

Didn't do badly yesterday. Would have liked more like exercise, but maybe I was a little burned out from my triple play the day before. Weighed 387.6, down 0.6 lbs. Since my 4 lb "gain" last Monday, I'm down 6 pounds. It's all settling out.

By the way, yesterday marked the end of my 3rd 30-day month since starting on Jan 5th. In those 90 days, I lost 67.2 pounds, or 14.7% of my starting body weight. My hope for the next 90 days is to continue to build my exercise regimen by adding new routines that strengthen and build endurance. I think a fair weight-loss goal for those 90 days is.... 50 lbs.

By the way, I am on track to have lost 100 pounds total sometime around 2nd week of June.... roughly 160 days from the start date. We'll have to wait and see if I can do that.

Have a good day, all. Be good to yourselves.

Arrrgh! The pressure!! :)

OK, I'll give it a try, Q. I need to exercise 2X then, drink like a fish and eat some freakin' fiber.
I like your intensity lately! I think getting that project behind you has really focused you. Make it happen, buddy.

67 pounds in 90 days? Holy moly that is impressive!! Fantastic work, sir! Now, go pick 67 pounds up and walk around with it for an hour....quite a difference I imagine!

Hey WOW: 90 days, you lost 67.2 pounds! That's amazing - I agree with Camila - go and pick up something that weighs 67.2 lbs!! I actually did that...because - I am complaining that I only lost 20 lbs....but the other day my husband made me lift my weight collections: 2x2 lbs 2x3 lbs 2x5 lbs = 20lbs & he made me realize that I am on the right track!!

As for the room to exercise - well - i can do stuff that are stationary - but I cant do bouncy stuff - jumping etc - I don't wanna end up at the neighbor's living room downstairs lol. :D

Good luck with the weigh in!
