My good days, my bad days, my random thoughts

This past Sunday was the 8 mile run for ALS... Long story short, going into this I was hoping to complete the race in the 1:25-1:30 range... I finished the race in 1:15:57. Almost 5 minutes better than my best case scenario. HAHA!
Wow! :hurray: That's awesome Fish! Way to go!!!

This past Sunday was the 8 mile run for ALS. I completed it without walking. Going into it, my longer runs (4-5 miles) had been in the 10-minute-mile pace. So provided I could keep that pace up for the full 8 miles I was on track to complete the race in about 1:20. However, I questioned my ability to maintain that pace for 3 MORE miles than those longer runs. Long story short, going into this I was hoping to complete the race in the 1:25-1:30 range.

I finished the race in 1:15:57. Almost 5 minutes better than my best case scenario. I was stunned. And that was with a lot of leg problems during the race. My knees were killing me which was completely unexpected as they'd not bothered me in ages. Between miles 2-5 I was really questioning if I was going to be able to run the whole thing.

So the day was a great success for me and for ALS fundraising. I can't wait for next years. Shooting for 1:05 next year. And I'm glad, so glad I only have to do this once per year! HAHA!

That is awesome!!! My aunt just found out she has ALS a couple months ago... She is in a study at the UofU and was picked as only 100 people in the nation to participate. I guess someone who had ALS was also bi-polar and was taking Lithium for their bi-polar disorder... I guess some doctors noticed that the Lithium was beneficial to the ALS and it's symptoms... My aunt is really happy and optimistic about being in the study... (just thought I would throw that in there)...

Running 8 miles seems like such a feat. I'm currently running 4-5 on a pretty regular basis (on the treadmill though)... I would love to work my way up to 7 or 8 for sure. Once you get into the zone, I imagine I could make it happen. I'm currently averaging about 9.5 to 10 minute miles and would love to average in the 8's... Glad you've kept up with it and had an excellent finish time when you ran it. Your face definitely does look a lot thinner. Some b/a pics are definitely needed ;)

Take Care,
Sam

I'm going to close this diary. It's been a while since I've been in it and I'm past this stage now and moving on to new goals. I'm not sure what those goals are yet, but I think it'd be best to try out a new diary. Thanks to EVERYONE who was in here encouraging me and giving me shit when necessary along the way.

I'll be creating a new diary soon (hopefully today). Please come by there and check it out. Thanks again to everyone! You all f'n rock.

Way to go on starting a new diary... On my way there now! You can have Maleficient "officially" close this one if you want so that no more posts are made here. :leaving:
