My good days, my bad days, my random thoughts

Slow like a sea turtle... ever see them come up on land to lay their eggs? I think they'd out run me. :D

Well it's been a bit. A few things had come along to keep me out of here... my computer has been in for repairs for a month now, everyone at work has been taking their vacations and its consequently busy as shit which has made for sporadic running (couple/few times per week rather than the five/six I'm aiming for) and a much less proper diet.

Despite all of that I've been doing well enough to keep the weight coming off. I won't be hitting that 170 by September goal (though I knew that a couple weeks ago -- I'm going to be further away still).

As mentioned, running has been hit and miss. I've developed a problem in my right calf that I'm not sure what to make of. I can't tell if it's muscle or tendon pain (or both) so I have been keeping to the shorter 2-mile run rather than 3-5.

So I guess is the takeaway is I'm alive and hanging in there. My computer is still in the shop and vacations are ongoing until the end of the month so here's hoping for a more steady return in September!

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Sorry to hear about the calf... good to hear you're still workin' in though! You have seriously come so far! Your pics are CRAZY inspiring!!! :iagree:

My laptop cord took a sh** last week too and the battery is dead... feel like I'm gonna go nuts, all my stuff is on there... a new cord is like a hundred bucks! WTF? It's a damn cable for God's sake! Thinking of just buyin' a new laptop lol.... ;)

Check out Radio Shack. They vary often carry after market things like that for half the price.

THAT'S where I went! The disk drive on my laptop doesn't work either so I'm figuring, rather than buy a new cord AND fix that, I'll just get a new one. BUT STILL... GOSH lol....
PS Thanks for the suggestion. :S

:toetap05: Umm.... Hello? Yeah... just stoppin' in to clean up... geez there's a lot of dust in here!!! Hope you're just busy losin' weight and you'll be able to stop in and update us all soon!!! :waving:

Morning Brad. Hows it going? When do you think you will hit 170? We should have a party for you. ;) Im shooting for the end of the month.

Hey Paula! Thanks for checking in. ;-) I was away for a month or so due to a) my laptop being repaired (for literally a month I was without it) and b) busy busy busy at work. Everyone took their vacations in August so those of us picking up the slack were getting run down.

But my computer is back, everyone's back at work and I'm ready to get back on the ball.

It wasn't a bad month. I still managed to lose about 5 pounds. Diet wasn't/isn't as good as it should be and I've not been out running like I should. So I'm hoping to turn that around in September.

As for 170, I would love to hit it by mid-September. That's about 2.5 lbs a week. I know that I can do that, I just have to get my shit together NOW to be able to do it. I'd also like to see some under-20 fat%s this month as well. I've been HORRRRRIBLE with my hydration and my body fat numbers are all over the map so I don't know how much further I have to go to do that... between 1-2% though. 1% is doable, 2% I can probably come close.

Here's to a new month! Thanks to all those who were checking in on me!

What's your BF% at now? I just got one of those scales that tells you that and H2O%. My H2O seems to be steady each day, but BF is going up as my weight goes down. Can't figure that one out.

I'd guess my BF% is between 21.5-22.0%. In the last two months I've averaged a loss of 0.375% per week.

How's your protein intake? My diet is not where it needs to be right now so I don't have much to offer in terms of what *I* am doing. But protein would be my first guess. Perhaps try increasing it some for a month and see how the scale reacts.

HAHA yeah... Thanks, Matt. I've got to shave my goatee down now. I've got a horse face. It used to be too round, now it's too long and the goatee only makes it look even longer.

I will put together some before/afters soon. I think it's about time for one.

My protein is really good and I really don't think I'm losing real muscle mass. If anything I'm gaining it in my legs. They are starting to get a definition that wasn't there before. I'm thinking that the machine is off because you can't go up 2% in a week where you lost 5 pounds. It's really just an indicator and not a real %, but it's frustrating to see it going up.

Oh for sure it's not a figure you want to put stock in, just use it as one more way to track progress. Over the months you will see the number clearly drop. From week to week? Possibly. Day to day? All over the damned place.

For example, my last 7 days BF% readings:

  • 22.2
  • 20.9
  • 20.0
  • 21.9
  • 21.8
  • 21.7
  • 22.0

Clearly volatile. However, 7 consecutive readings from when I began tracking BF% in April:

  • 31.9
  • 31.8
  • 30.9
  • 31.0
  • 30.8
  • 30.0
  • 30.8

So track the number, by all means, but don't worry too much about day to day fluctuations. It's a long-term gauge more than anything else. Just another tool in your arsenal.

Yeah, the thing that gets me is I'll go to bed and it will read 25%, then get up in the morning and it will read 27%. Hmm. visit by the fat fairy? Gotta get the house sprayed for that one.

This past Sunday was the 8 mile run for ALS. I completed it without walking. Going into it, my longer runs (4-5 miles) had been in the 10-minute-mile pace. So provided I could keep that pace up for the full 8 miles I was on track to complete the race in about 1:20. However, I questioned my ability to maintain that pace for 3 MORE miles than those longer runs. Long story short, going into this I was hoping to complete the race in the 1:25-1:30 range.

I finished the race in 1:15:57. Almost 5 minutes better than my best case scenario. I was stunned. And that was with a lot of leg problems during the race. My knees were killing me which was completely unexpected as they'd not bothered me in ages. Between miles 2-5 I was really questioning if I was going to be able to run the whole thing.

So the day was a great success for me and for ALS fundraising. I can't wait for next years. Shooting for 1:05 next year. And I'm glad, so glad I only have to do this once per year! HAHA!
