Today I got rid of two garbage bags of clothes. Deposited them in the clothing bins they have here for donation. Basically, I got rid of a bunch of things that are too big :)

Not sure if I've lost any weight this week, I've went over my calorie allowance every day but I also burned a lot so we'll see on Monday.

Hi, Kj67 You're doing a really good job and you're headed in the right direction, you will have the weight off before you know it!

I am confused on something though and I was wondering if I could get some imput from anyone, Alot of people like you daily put their calories burned, and I'm just wondering is that calories burned from just excercise? because we also burn calories doing pretty much nothing, sleeping, brushing your teeth, talking on the phone, I have a good sight which you put in your weight and how many minutes a day you do certain things and it will tell you how many calories you burn a day, mine is a little over 3,000 with very little excercise,.. so I'm just wondering if people are counting these calories burned as well.

http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc this is the sight I was talking about.

Anyway, good luck on your journey and keep it up you are doing great!!!

Yes, Jessica, I do count things like things I do at work, like "Office Sitting Light" and things like "Washing the Car" and even reading lol. That's why my calories burned often are more than just the exercise I do. I don't count things like brushing teeth and stuff though so those things like that are a bonus I guess lol. The important thing about it is that by logging my calories eaten and calories burned, it keeps me focused on my weight loss goal. I never did that before. Now that I do, I rarely skip workouts because I want to make sure I burn it off in the right places. For instance, I noticed today that I actually do have obliques! They are EATING my love handles lol. Obliques are way more sexier than love handles lol. Now I am going to up my workouts a level because I can actually SEE the success. woohooooot

Since this is a diary, I'm just going to type a diary entry that really has nothing to do with me but has to do with friends of mine. Actually, it does have to do with me getting brave enough to address the issues in person but anyway, here goes:I have some friends that are on fad diets. I'm not really sure if the juice diet is a fad diet or not, but she drinks only juice every day, a different color that I assume she mixes up according to a recipe. The other friend takes an over the counter diet drug that supposedly speeds up her metabolism and burns calories. They both exercise, the one on the juice diet exercises far more than she should with such a poor intake of food. The other one exercises far less than she should but then she's on certain medications that places limits on her ability to exercise. In any case, I so want to tell them to stop that stuff. If they really want to have a healthy weight for life, they aren't going to get that way quickly. They are going to have to put in effort. There are no shortcuts. They aren't going to lose 20 pounds in 20 days and keep it off. Getting to a healthy weight and staying that way, takes commitment and sacrifice. Some people like alcohol. Some people like a lot of alcohol. Alcohol and weight reduction are incompatible. I have another friend that drinks just about every night. I won't call her an alcoholic because I don't know that she is. But I do know, she bought a device that she wraps around her stomach that is supposed to work her abs as if she's doing situps. She can sit or work and all the while she's having a great ab workout. I want to tell her, the best ab workout she could possibly do for herself at the moment is limit or even eliminate her alcohol consumption. I suppose I'm a poor friend because I'm not saying these things to them. Perhaps putting it in writing will spur me to actually address the issue with my friends. The friend of mine that takes the diet drug was suicidal at one point last year. I cannot bring myself to say anything to her that would upset her. UGH.

AHey kj67,
I agree with everything you said about these friends...but you and I both know that they may lose the weight today, and chances are they will gain it back within a month of losing it...you on the other hand, are losing, the healthy way, slow, but sure...and will likely keep it off. My guess is that no matter what you tell them, it wouldn't matter...they are probably convinced they "have" to do it their way. The best thing you can do is set a great example...make your good choices day after day, lose the weight the healthy way, keep it off and when they ask you how you did it, have something pre-prepared for how you did it with some examples...that are totally different than their short term get skinny quick fad diet!
We can change others...they have to want to change themselves...you can certainly give them some advice from your experience if they ask...but I for one wouldn't offer it unless asked, or unless they are bragging Bout it and open the door.
Just my 2 cents worth!

Sarah

Sarah, thank you for that great advice. You're right and this log/diary that I'm keeping....it has the things I am doing in it, if they ever open the door, I'm going to point them right here! You're awesome.

Calories Eaten: 1265

Calories Burned: 1524

Exercise: AM 57 minute walk; Lunch short 30 minute arms/shoulders; evening 1 hour 15 minute walk. Was so busy all day at work and errands too, I feel like I had a huge workout just from daily work and activities.

Tuesday I have the metabolic test and vo2 and the following tuesday a fitness test by the wellness center. I cant wait to see my lean muscle mass as opposed to fat and to see exactly how many calories I'm supposed to be eating every day. The food tracker/fitness tracker I use is a good guide but I want to see the true numbers and maybe it will help me lose more weight. I am almost at a standstill I think. One pound only last week.

Tomorow is weigh in. Next week, starting tomorrow, I'm going to amp up my cardio. Weight loss is slacking off, however, inches continue to shrink, and toning is happening...Getting smiles and comments, which I'm soooo not used to :)

Hi Kj67,

Hope you had/will have a fantastic weigh-in today, my fingers are crossed for you! Amping up the cardio?? You're going to be so darned fit!

Naif

Hi Naif, thanks for visiting :) I had a terrible weigh in. I didn't lose anything. At least I didn't gain though.

Calories eaten: I didn't even keep track, although I know it was probably aound 1600ish

Calories burned: Probably at least 1300, I didn't even track it on the tracker today. Such a depressing scale result

Execise: AM core workout 30 minutes, run 21 minutes; Lunch Walk 48 minutes; evening walk 1 hour 15 minutes.

Sorry to hear the bad news, but I hope it doesn't keep you down for too long. With all the effort you put in im pretty darned sure you'll see some movement on the scales next week :hurray:

Thanks Naif for the encouragement, it's a big help :)

Went to the wellness center today for the metabolic test. Was told I need to eat 100 calories more daily and that I've done damage by not eating enough calories, have lost lean muscle mass....arghhhh. Have lost fat too though. So maybe I'll have some progress next week, after changing my caloric intake! Fitness test next wednesday, they'll help me tailor my workouts and stuff. Can't wait.

Today, one hour of cardio via circuit training in the morning and 1 hour 15 minute walk evening. Burned up about 1200 calories thru the exercise combined with normal daily life. Ate about 1700 cals.

In keeping with the dietician guidance, I upped my calories (this scares me, makes me think I'm going to balloon). I ate 1700+ again and I burned about 1240.

Exercise: AM Run. These runs I'm doing now are for speed as opposed to distance. I have knocked several minutes off my time. I am down 7 minutes on my two mile run. I want to get it down 5 more minutes. I'm still way slow by most folks standards. This morning I did 2 miles in 20:49. A month ago, I did that distance in 28ish minutes, although I was running with my dog who often takes pit stops..now, I leave her home during runs. If I can get to a 15ish level on my 2 mile run, I know I will be in great cardio shape for my age.

Lunch--shoulders/triceps/biceps 40 minutes

Evening--walk 1 hour 17 minutes

This morning I peeked at the scale..I shouldn't be doing that...but anyway, for the first time in a couple weeks, it has shifted to the left! Only a half pound but my dietician is now my hero! She was too right about the calories, I upped them on Tuesday and this is Thursday and already seeing a result YAY.
