Another good ride tonight. It was a bit windy in some patches so my top speed was quite a bit slower at 38 but I managed to keep the average to 26 which was quite pleasing.

I also completed the whole circuit (20km) on the top chain ring which kept the gearing at 8th-14th which I’ve not done before too.

Also I’ve just looked back at the time I’ve been using this speedo. Since 16th February until now (8th April) I’ve increased my average speed over the same circuit by 5km/h. Not huge I realise but it’s progress.

Another decent ride tonight. Mostly uneventful. Got cut up once in a roundabout but was able to avoid it easily enough.

It was a hard ride though. I forgot to check my tyre pressures before leaving. Half way around I was struggling (was also battling a strong headwind uphill) but when I got back my rear pressure was low 80’s (psi) and front was low 90’s. Both are supposed to be 120.

I got bored so thought I’d go for a second ride tonight.

I’m definitely a creature of habit. I set off with no intended route in mind and ended up taking the exact same route I always take (except the odd occasion when I deliberately go a different route to get a climb in).

As it turns out I’m very consistent; I’m hitting an average speed of 25-26 every ride. It’s annoying though because that includes time spent stopped at traffic lights.

Only a short ride tonight. Dropped the bike off for another service and crank upgrade. It’s 7km or so from home so rode there, walked back then onto the weights. I’m working on bench press, curl, reverse flies and dumbbell dead lifts. I don’t yet have a good routine for core strength training yet though.

Hey Truffle Monster, nice to meet you! I read through a bit of your diary and even though I see that you don't really have specific goals in mind, it still looks like you've accomplished quite a bit! Even if you don't keep track of numbers for progress, how you feel and trying to be consistently active is the most important thing. Looking forward to seeing more about your fitness journey!

My guess is you'll get a good routine in no time!

Kinda excited for my ride tonight. Upgraded drivetrain, brakes and shifters all fitted BUT I have to walk to the pick it up before I can ride it.

Well just picked it up and rode home.

It now rides VERY differently; it’s a lot stiffer and more responsive. The different gear ratios are going to take some getting used to but that’s ok.

Just a short ride back home tonight. I’ll take it out properly tomorrow.

Hmmm I couldn’t wait any longer. Just went on a ride. I’m loving the new feel but the shifters aren’t quite aligned properly so I’m unable to select 3rd, 2nd and 1st gear. Not a biggie because I spend no time on those gears unless I’m climbing. It’s disappointing because I wanted to tackle the big hill tonight but I’ll send it back to my fixy mcdixy bloke down the road for adjustment.

I also found out that my speedo doesn’t work if the phone is locked. I travelled 18km just now, got my phone out my pocket and found it thinks I only did 0.24km. This time I had it in my pocket not the bag on the handle bars.

That’s annoying

As predicted I couldn’t resist the climb so I took the bike out again. Did my climb then went around the normal route.

My god the bike is a lot faster now!

I was very happy with my climb tonight. It’s the first time I’ve made it to the top without a stop. I’ve always had to stop for a 1 minute breather about 1/4 of the way on the steepest bit but tonight I managed to push through. I wanted to stop oh god I wanted to stop but I managed to make it to the top.

The first shot is at the top of the climb. The second is near the bottom where I turned off to rejoin my regular route. Unfortunately when I got back I found the speedo had closed down and wasn’t tracking anything on the last part so I don’t know my average speed.

I’ve just done a quick calculation and the average gradient of this “climb” is only 4%. That makes me sad because I’m sure there are a couple of 1km or so sections of 15% or more. There is a reasonable down hill section about half way too then another steep climb back up so averages lie.

So....I'm thinking the downhill section would be all I would enjoy!!
Glad you got the bike tweaked!

Haha that’s the only section I don’t enjoy. It’s not a good road surface, no street lights, winding road in a 100 km/h zone.

Disappointing ride tonight.

Thought I’d go for a longer ride. Headed down to Mawson Lakes then on the way back got stuck with a flat tyre again. I’m sick of these damn pinch flats!

Didn’t have a spare with me so walked 10km home. Really disappointing because I was feeling good. I was planning on doing an 80km ride but had to settle at 29 plus a 10km walk. (Was planning on 2 laps of the circuit).

Goes to show though how much faster the bike is now. I was really pacing myself so putting out basically no effort and still managed an average 25km speed.

First screen shot was home to Mawson lakes and the second was where I stopped for the flat. I didn’t reset it so the distance etc is accumulative.
