Mission: Losing Half of ME

Doing it for ME

Thanks for all of the well wishes and motivation, I remember why I love this forum!

Dear Diary,

Yesterday was busy, although I spent more time playing on this website than I should have while I was at work!

Saturday is always my toughest day, because it is my all day shift at my job, which means I get to eat for free in the meal line... Which depending on the meal, can really crash my calorie totals. The cook is a large lady like me, and I see her give me extra huge portions because, well... I look like I can eat!! I was determined yesterday to ask her for a smaller helping, but then I saw the meal was her super cheesy rice/turkey/broccoli casserole. I didn't say anything, and I also didn't say anything when she plopped 2 pieces of cake on my plate instead of the standard 1 slice that normal humans eat...

Bad. :banghead:

I'm going to make a point of seeing her sometime during the week so we can chat, and I can slide in how I'm trying to lose weight. I need to cut off my huge calorie loaded meal binge, because as of now I can't bear to not eat what is put on my plate... It's a fear that if I don't eat it, there won't be more food and I'll go hungry. I'm pretty sure my body could live off of my stored energy ('aka' fat) for about a decade, so I need to get my head in the game!!

On a fun note, I am mega excited for the New Years Challenge! A 12 week Biggest Loser style competition that is going to force me to stay accountable for 12 weeks.... Then I'll need another competition, and then another, to keep me accountable until I finally can manage to stay on track just for ME.

That's right, ME! I need to be the only pebble on the beach!

The first single step...

Oh hey there, Dear Diary of mine!

So I was thinking it wouldn't be an outlandish goal for me to hope to lose at least 100 pounds in 2010. If I lose 2-3 lbs. a week, which will be easy initially, I can do this.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

In other news, I need to start keeping a food log regularly. And an exercise log. So far my non-existant exercise log is up to date for the last 8 months, because it's been at least that long since I've done any exercise. HA.

Seriously, if I get off my butt in a few minutes I'm going to check for bedsores!! :piggy:

Allow me to do some positive thinking for a moment...

It need not be so exact, but this general plan is very possible if I can just stick to my guns!! 2009 was the crappiest year I've ever had in my whole life! Every part of my life had negative effects this past year, and if I can at least start changing my health... Maybe the rest of the pieces will come together and make 2010 my year!! :biggrinjester:

So, things to do...
- start a food diary
- start exercising (at least start movement of some kind)
- start exercise log

I guess that means I need to get out of bed, huh?

My doctor's advice...

My doctor recommended that I eat only 800 - 900 calories a day for four to six weeks. He stated that I am very obese, and in great risk of severe health problems if I do not take as much weight as possible off immediately.

I asked about amputation, but I don't think he thought I was funny... :blush5:

After my 800 - 900 calorie phase, he wants me to gradually build up to 1000 calories a day over one or two weeks, and then based on my activity level continue eating 1000 calories a day (if I remain sedentary) or 1200 calories a day (if I get myself moving).

I told him about my New Years weight loss challenge, and he said that I just need to follow his calorie recommendations and the challenge and don't give up.

This is way less calories than I had anticipated, I sure hope he knows what he's doing!!! :puke:

Question on this, did he give you any kind of liquid diet plan, script, etc, or is he more or less telling you to eat '800-900 calories of something, sometime during the day'? if so, I would seriously seek a second opinion. I've heard of that diet tactic before, but it usually came supervised with a specific liquid diet mix or some such.

I am of the opinion that your doctor is a moron. A plan like that is both dangerous and nearly impossible to maintain long-term, even at 1,000 calories. Of course obese people are at risk for severe health problems, but that doesn't mean that every obese person is in a dire situation RIGHT NOW. Society and the media has people so freaked out about obesity that a lot of average everyday citizens and unfortunately a lot of "qualified professionals" buy into scare tactics.

My doctor asked that I try and lose 20lbs. before my next physical exam (which will be 6 months to a year from now). She said that my weight is an issue, but that there are plenty of people out there who are overweight and healthy. Your goal (and your doctor's goal) should not be to starve you into rapid weight-loss, it should be to get you healthy. I don't even eat as many calories as is recommended for my size, but I usually sit somewhere between 2,000-2,200 per day when I try to get plenty of food. I think my caloric "sweet spot" is around 2,500 cals. (giving me enough strength and energy for my workouts, etc)

I highly suggest seeking a second opinion in this case. There are a LOT of foolish doctors out there ... trust me, just get pregnant and you'll find that out really quick.

If nothing else, that plan is probably completely impossible to maintain long-term. Nobody should ever be eating that little.

Unless he is putting you on a special diet with close supevision I agree with the above, your doctor is a moron.

I'm giving it a go...

Unless he is putting you on a special diet with close supevision I agree with the above, your doctor is a moron.

It's sort of a special diet... I have to eat a combination of grains, proteins, veges, and fruits... And a multi-vitemin! They gave me a shopping list and a selection of daily menus. My big thing is that I just cannot eat breakfast, I've never been able to. I feel sick if I eat in the morning, and I generally never got hungry at lunch time, so I have been a one meal a day lady my whole life. I never had any problems being fit and healthy with that diet until I went through a huge emotional problem and started a routine where that one meal of the day was about 10,000 calories... :piggy:

It looks like I'm going to eat a selection of grilled chicken, egg whites, carrots, whole wheat bread, and strawberries... And I'm going to have to start eating more than once a day!

Hey there :) First of all- you are pretty much hysterical. I WISH I could come up with the humor level you have on this journey  Second- I applaud you for coming back. I, too, have been a member for many years, and this is my fourth time around... but I finally have that "i'm gonna do it, dammit!" attitude that I know I NEEDED to have in order to get anywhere.
I hope to see you on here allll the time and can't wait to see how you do :) I try to stop by journals when I can, so I'll be keepin tabs :D
Have a fantastic day tomorrow! Also- I know you don't do breakfast, but I never did either till pretty recently, and I feel a gazillion times better now- but maybe eat a banana or even half of one for the first few days or so?? You'd be amazed at what even a little bit would do for ya. :)

Why am I such a SLOB!

Thanks Jess393! Because of you I am starting small, and buying some bananas tomorrow! I look forward to getting to know you better!!

Dear Diary,

I am a very, very, very, VERY, very lazy person. On more than one occasion I have "joked" with my husband about setting up an intricate system of hoses so that I would not have to get out of bed to pee in the morning. Yes, it is a joke, but if he set up those hoses...

Anyways, so on top of being lazy I am also the worlds sloppiest human. Seriously, next to the word slovenly in the dictionary is my picture. Why am I talking about my inability to maintain a suitable living environment? It's because I just went on a massive search for my tape measurer, and have not unearthed it yet!!

This bothers me a lot because I rarely feel motivated to do the whole measurements thing, and when the motivation strikes I am like a little impatient brat and I need to do what I want to do NOW!

Bah. :banghead:

I was playing around on fitday, which has changed a LOT since I initially registered with the site a year ago. I am super excited to get in the swing of things, I'm even more excited to have my wedding ring fit properly without making my finger turn blue...

I've been being pretty bad diet-wise, using the whole excuse of not starting until the New Year. I can justify with the best of them... Tomorrow I'm getting things on track, and writing everything down.

Here goes EVERYTHING! :biggrinjester:

It doesn't take long! My engagement ring is practically falling off now (I suspect less because of the weight loss so far and more because of the water intake) ... it's actually scary. I'll need to get it re-sized pretty soon here ... crazy!

FitDay.com is amazing! I love keeping track of my measurements on there ...only problem is that it fluctuates a lot because I never measure exactly the same way twice ... I suppose that's the problem with essentially being round. :banghead:

oh yeah, that diet just makes me want to scream 'crap!'. Absolutely no fat soluble vitamins at all for starters.

as for the breakfast, stomach might be screaming for food which is why its cramping and feeling sick upon eating since its pushing out juices like mad. Might have to break it in for a bit, so to speak. I'm no expert here, what about a piece of whole grain toast and a bottle of water to start with for a week or two and work up from there? You might well start finding your appetite coming back around lunch as well, which helps and is actually a good thing.

Lunch isn't surprising since your system is crashed out from no breakfast. I get the same thing. Its like being so tired you can't sleep, same process, you get so hungry you don't wanna eat, strange as it sounds.

Dearest Diary: Happy NYE!

Dear Diary,

Well, my diet is officially underway. I'm starting today instead of tomorrow so I can say, "Oh yeah, I've been working hard to lose the weight since last year," and not be lying!

I just weighed myself: 320.0 pounds

I also *finally* found my tape measurer and took my measurments, which serve as being quite motivational in addition to being quite embarassing. :ack2:

Neck: 16 inches
Bicep: 17.5 inches
Forearm: 10.5 inches
Chest:58 inches
Waist: 54.5 inches
Hips: 60 inches
Thigh: 28.25 inches
Calf: 16.5 inches

Yeah... I have really let myself go. :puke:

I think my husband might join this site today, and possibly even the New Years Challenge. It makes me happy when he puts in effort to be healthy. He weighs less than me, but he is a type II diabetic, and needs to lose weight pronto to avoid having to become insulin dependent at the young age of 32.

I work tonight, and school finally starts back up next week, which will be good because I feel like if I am busy it will be easier to do my best. I am a PRO at thinking up ways to cheat and ruin my life when I have spare time, so bring on the busy!!

I'll talk to you all next year... HA! Oh that may be my favorite part of New Years Eve... Yes, I am a total nerd... :leaving:

::slaps your hand::

No. No Diet. Lifestyle change.

Guess what. You just won me as a personal modivator. We have the same sort of battle. Starting around the same time on our march. It's great your husband is going to march with you.

See those kanji in my signature? It means inner strength. Keep it in your mind or I'm going to bring out my good ol' 2x4 of Doom that I use to use the last time I was part of a weight loss support group. :seeya:

It sounds like you are all geared up and ready to go! Good for you! I'm the same way about New Years... I like to be able to say that I haven't eaten X or done Y since last year...

Nonetheless, your goal is absolutely attainable while eating a normal diet and not that crazy 800 calories a day. Where did that doctor get his degree, the ACME school of medicine? Seriously. Eat a normal balanced diet and start moving and everything will be fine.

Hi,

Just wanted to stop in here and say hi. I have been following your diary, but have yet to post anything. Taking measurements is great. It is amazing to see where the inches come off from, and how quickly they can change. I really look forward to following your progress, and believe that this is going to be an exciting and life-changing process for you. I wish you all the best, and will be here to support you along the way! ;)

Food Log: Day One

Now, onto my log, which I'll update throughout the day... I didn't eat a breakfast and a lunch, but I did eat a brunch of sorts... Which is progress for me, as I usually just eat one giant meal after 5PM sometime! Little by little... :coolgleamA:

You skipped breakfast.

You skipped lunch.

So you figure you have only taken in roughly 390 calories today? I'm a little worried about that number. you are making a pretty heavy calorie cut and your body doesn't have lot of fuel to work on right now. you have in your post your weight at 320. By the rule of thumb, you need roughly 3840 calories a day to maintain. Let;s go by the 'ideal' of 2 pounds in a week. So 2840 calories a week roughly.

I'm just worried that you are going to feel hunger pains.
