Well our vacation was amazing, and I feel really revitalized. I feel really inspired by the incredible beauty there and also by how when you are really enjoying yourself, food is just something you do to keep your energy up so you can do more exploring (though I did make quite delicious food with all the fresh ginger, turmeric, and other wonderful foods there, and when we went out it was also wonderful food. I did eat a lot of amazing fresh fruit and some junk like chocolate cake, but I also exercised a ton and lost a small amount of weight, so things are good. The last 2 days on Kauai we snorkeled 5 hours one day and then repelled down cliffs and swam in a waterfall and the river under it for 6 hours and then scaled the cliffs again to get back up. My arms are definitely smaller, and the pudges on my sides are smaller. I really feel like keeping up exploring and getting lots of exercise and want to swim in the ocean most days this summer. I don't want to go back to stress eating and waiting for other people to join me to go have fun. I need to get out more and go do what makes me enthused!
Also because we took my mom, I really got an exercise in learning to ignore bad behavior and just relax. She was sort of like a badly behaved 7 year old when she didn't get what she wanted, and since her memory is a mess and she is losing abilities like knowing how to get a seat belt on and off, she was quite tantrum-y and grumbly in between being in awe of where we were. She is starting to also pick on my daughter and husband, so they are finally getting why I have so much trouble with her. Not that I am happy they are being picked on, too, but now they understand why I have such strong reactions to her and why I think she is such a handful. Anyway, that is absolutely the last vacation I take her on, but it was really good for her and she loved it, and I feel like I finally learned to let go and not care what she thinks of me because I just have to to preserve my sanity at this point.
We did a helicopter tour of Kauai, and it was so incredible seeing these immense waterfalls up close and zipping down into old volcanic craters that are now covered in lush vegetation and many little falls plunging impossibly far below. The ocean was also so lovely - turquoise and warm and relaxing, but the mountains were what captivated me this trip - huge soaring jagged and their tops disappeared into the fog. We just had day after day of lovely exploring. Just got back late last night and there was a heat wave here, but the coastal fog is rolling in now so we will go back to lovely cool temperatures like we like.
