Lukewarm's Weight Loss Diary

If need a scale, most grocery stores have a simple 16 ounce scale for 5-7 dollars. You can also try a big lots or khols, they are always really cheap and discounted there. It can help sometimes:)

For bulk cooking like chili or soup and how to measure best...

-Count the calories of all the items you put in the dish prior. Example-1150 calories for whole pot of chicken soup.
-When you store the soup take a measuring cup and laddle out a cup at a time into another container.
-Whatever the number of times you scooped the cup in the end, divide that by you overall calories. 8 cups divided by 1150= 143 calories per cup.
-Each time you sit down to have that meal, measure it out with a cup. If you want a cup and a half then it will be 214 calories and so forth.

Don't worry if in one cup you got more good than the other cup. Keep the same count for each time, yes maybe sometimes it will be a little over 143 but sometimes it could be under too. :)

Hey Leigh! Ok, that makes total sense! I just have to buy a couple more tupperware containers, and I didn't realize that the scales were so freakin cheap, I though they'd be $50+. I found a basic recipe this morning that looks pretty good too, so I'm off to scrounge up the ingredients in a bit, including a scale. Thanks for the breakdown :)

Tomorrow I may be going out on my mom's new boat for the first time! It's super cute, it reminds me of a tugboat, and it's yellow and white. It isn't a glittery speedboat or anything but it is cute as can be. My step-dad will fish. We will lay around and get some sun. It will be my mom, step-dad, my sis and me. We have to see if the weather cooperates, but I'm excited...I've gotta start working on my tan! I'll take some pictures if we do go out.

Edit: Nevermind...she just called back and said she can't but we'll make plans again :( Sometime soon I hope!

Hey Sara! It probably seems dumb to call it a "skill", but I think learning how to go out and eat in restaurants and/or other people's homes or at social events and enjoying yourself while sticking to your individual nutrient/calorie choices is a huge skill that takes lots of practice. Even when you go and "screw up", (and we all do, cause that's part of the "practice") you can look back and realize "oh, I could have chosen xyz instead" and next time you probably will. Heck girl, I'm probably one of the most "food restrictive" people on the planet (yes, I admit it) but I eat out probably twice a week - 'cause it's just part of life - eating out with friends and family - and I've yet to find a restaurant (even a buffet) where I can't get what I want. Okay, maybe not KFC :rotflmao:

Gosh Sara! You wear those pounds extremely well. You look absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful hair and you dont look fat. I am so stunned and surprised, with all this nonsense you've been talking..only to look like that. Ha. I wont believe your stories anymore.

I concur Sara! Shame on you for making us believe you were shapeless and ugly..not the vixen in the pics.. :D

Cym I agree, I think it is a skill, and one that I'm going to try to utilize when I go home in 3 weeks. I am not going to let my friends or family influence me. My mom assured me that she's going to be watching what she's eating as well and that she'll help me fend off the rude comments of family (I love them but they really want me to stay fat)

Rho Thank you for that sweet comment, lol if I felt like a vixen I'd be proud of it, but I don't. I really appreciate you saying that I am not a shapeless blob, because that's what I feel like.

I have a couple things to do today. I have to go buy work pants/shoes (I'm fitting into size 10 exactly at this point, which doesn't make me happy but I can't wait until I'm back in 8's) I MUST do my grocery shopping that I've been putting off, I'm even out of water. I must get my sister to take picture/measurements to send to Leigh tonight, and check my weight. Clean, and plan this week's food. I'm going to use the Cym ritual and package and prepare food. I hope you all have a lovely day.

I'm sorry your family is not very supportive. Either way, you are on the right track and have help and are doing great!! WE'LL support you! We may be just writing on the page, but this forum has helped me through all kinds of times. I love it here! :hug2:

Val Thanks :) I love it here too ;) It's so nice to meet like-minded people. It would be such a nice relief though if people I hung around with were the same in the health aspect.

I overstand. There is added strength in solitude. I run by myself. I ride by myself. I weight train by myself. No one slows me down--but no one is there for company. I have support, from here and from my friends and family. Even acquaintances are rather supportive because I can't help but tell people what I've been up to, and I always ask them what they do (in case they know of a great trail or whatnot). YOU are your greatest companion. Hey--you'll be in your life forever!

Hey Sara,

You sure your family wants you to stay fat? That MAY be the case; however it might be more likely that they're used to seeing you in a certain way (and that may include being overweight) so the change unsettles them. It's the same problem I have with my friends, who've been used to seeing me as the fattest one for years, so a change makes them reassess just where I fit. I'm sure your family wants the best for you (I'm ever hopeful that this is the case, and your mom and sister DO sound like they are quite supportive).

Good on you for planning your food.

PS: I loved Curvie Girlie's comment about strength in solitude. I think that is entirely right because you see and know yourself, warts and all. So you can tell yourself what you need to do, and get on with it. Fantastic comment, and so true..

Hey Sara! Oh, I love what Val said so much....that's exactly how I feel. In the end, you are the only one who has to live in your body, why should anybody else get to negatively influence what you put into it, what you do with it, or even how it looks? Personally I've found that the people who have been the most negative and/or critical (fortunately the minority) to my own efforts have been those who want the same results but for whatever reason simply can't (or don't want to) put in the same effort. It's one of the reasons I love my close girlfriends sooooo much, they are all hot, tiny and super happy with themselves...they don't now, and really never have understood my weight issues - having never really that experience - but because they are so self-confident and don't have (serious at least) issues related to their own weight, they have been 110% supportive of me. It's funny because sometimes their support takes weird forms, like the time they kept trying to feed me banana chips 'cause they actually thought it was a "diet food"...surround your self with happy, confident people whenever you can, ignore the negative - heck you'll probably find yourself feeling a bit sad for them, and just keep on doing what you do for you:)

I agree that there is strength in solitude. I don't mind being on this journey alone (as far as home and close friends go). None of my other friends are going to the gym or trying to eat clean right now. It's hard sometimes. I have even almost decided not to talk about my eating/exercise/trainer/etc. unless someone specifically point blank asks me about it. I was pretty excited about it (and still am) but, I feel like no one around me really wants to hear about it anymore... People ask me what is new in my life and I talk about this. I don't have kids, I'm not currently in school, and I'm not married like a lot of my friends are.... So, I come to this site and post to my heart's content about whatever. It feels nice, actually :)

Also, a few weeks back I went to Ikea and bought a bunch of tupperware so that I could cook a few things in bulk and then have prepackaged nutritious food waiting in the fridge for me. Last night I set aside about an hour or so and baked a bunch of chicken, made some tuna salad, cooked a few cups of wild rice up, and steamed some brussel sprouts. Having ready to go food in the fridge for whenever you need to eat (for me it's a lot, I'm at around 6-7 times per day now) makes this so much easier.

Yup, Sara, apparently people like that! Hee hee!

We are the masters of reality--for us. No one can hold us down unless we let them. No one can stop us unless we let them. But when it comes to support, positivity, take it while the getting's good! That's how I feel!

Rho I'm sorry that you becoming healthy intimidates your friends :hug2:, that happens to me too, unfortunately that's not what I'm talkng about. I should have clarified, my immediate family (mom, dad, sister) are amazing and support me in every way possible. There are members of my extended family however that truly do take pleasure in seeing that I've gained weight. My weight gain has been over the past few years and it's important for me to not underestimate the spite of people that rely on boosting their own self esteem by bringing down others. The few family members that my comment was geared towards are the ones that actually do try to sabotage me, but I am strong enough to sidestep that obstacle at this point in my weight loss journey. Thanks so much for your perspective :)

Cym I love her comment as well, and actually you described the exact reason some of my family members treat me the way they do. It's precisely because they want the same thing for themselves but they refuse to take the steps to make it happen. They resent me for being able to, but would love for me to fail, because it would make them feel secure. I really don't have a problem with it, after all I'm barely there. The reason I'm bringing it up is because in 3 weeks, I'm going to have to deal with them every day for 2 weeks straight. I do regret that our relationship isn't positive, but you're right, I'm doing it for myself, and I wish WHOLEHEARTEDLY they would do the same for themselves. Because I love them, and I won't let my own insecurities interfere with that. I hope they can do the same soon. Thank you for your words.

Sam I ABSOLUTELY agree, I try as hard as possible not to bring this up in other areas of my life, and pour my heart out here. I'm so grateful for this forum really, and all of the people I've met. :) I'm like you, I've got nothing else going on really except school, and this is one of the most important things I've ever done, so I can't help but be obsessed with the process. I JUST went out and bought a load of tupperware, and I'm going to get started on my new organization routine as well. Thanks for your post ;)

Val Thank you again for your post. It had me thinking all day long actually. :hug2: I was walking in the grocery store and just doing my thing and all around were kids and mommas, and couples, and other single people. I just sort of knew that inside all of our heads we're trying to deal and be as happy as possible. Taking care of my body is taking care of my mind, and I feel so much healthier in all aspects of my life since joining here actually. I need a place to vent. THANK YOU EVERYONE! I did tons of thinking today, and although it's my rest day, I feel like I've accomplished my inner 'workout' :rotflmao:

So I bought a food scale from Target, I'm about to go use it to make my veggie soup. I also bought an "in between" swimsuit. It's cute. Today I just ate whatever I wanted, kind of a snacking day, but I made sure to stay in my caloric range, and aside from low fiber/protein intake, I didn't do too poorly. I didn't want to use my whey protein because I want to use it only as a post-workout shake. I am stressing a bit because I'm supposed to send Leigh pictures right now, but my sister is lazy and refuses to come over for a minute and take my pictures for me so I'm just going to do the makeshift bathroom mirror picture :( I hope that's cool. Anyways...

First week stats:

2 lbs. lost
Completed all nutrition/workout guidelines.
Will post updated (if there's a change) measurements in a moment.

Way to stay within caloric range today Sara. That's great you got your scale today. I use mine a lot. Hey cool, you got a swimsuit. Always feels good to get a new piece of clothing. And congrats on the 2 pounds lost! Have a great Monday, doll.

your doing great, I am to disorganised to weigh my food and my scales are broken anyway.

good luck with the photo, do you have a timer on your camera ? you could set it and then jump into position ?

Anna Thank you ;) I hope you have a beautiful Monday as well!

Trusylver That's a good idea! Duh! I'm going to try. I don't have a tripod or anything but I'll see if I can figure it out.

Thanks for clarifying Sara,

Gee, that's a bummer. I think cym got in right - people become threatened and envious of those who actively decide to change their lives. I suppose it shows a motivation and strength of character that they may wish to have more (Of course they don't realise it's within them if only they looked, or tried). You're definitely doing what's right for you, so treasure those who support you (like your sister and mom :))

Well done on planning your food - that's half the battle conquered already. I'm off to pretty much do the same. I had to have a bagel this morning cos my supply of brown bread had run out and I hadn't replenished it yesterday. If I'd planned it properly I wouldn't have had so many empty calories, which means I have less to eat today *grrr* Ah well..

Major congratulations on the 2 lb loss in one week. That is amazing, especially given that you just started eating more. Had you been losing that much on the 1200 or so cals you were doing per week? What do you think about this more-food-yet-losing-weight phenomena.

Planning is absolutely key to winning this vicious battle. Cym definitely has it right with the individual portions. What a good idea and I'm glad you'll be doing that. I always screw up when I havent planned or dont have good options around. I just get hungry and at that point I'll eat anything. That is always always my downfall.
