If anyone is interested, the E! channel is doing a THS presents investigates Fad Diets.
Right now, they're talking about vegan diets and how this couple became vegans (the diet helped their health issues like migraines). They ended up disregarding medicine and science and tried to cure everything using natural methods. They had a baby and put him on a vegan diet also (mainly soymilk) the baby died of undernourishment. Nutritionists said that vegan diet is not bad for children but have to be very carefully administered to prevent B vitamin and Foliate deficiency. The parents were convicted and now in jail they are still attempting to stick to a vegan diet, basically eating peanuts and what little else would adhere to a vegan limitations.
I think that shows like this, that try to make certain lifestyle changes look bad based on a marginal instances of bad administration, like in the case above that was a result of personal error instead of the actual diet, do an injustice for people who may have been able to benefit from trying out the different diets.
I wouldn't even consider veganism a diet in the first place. There are certain religions that actually require a vegan diet. It really is a lifestyle choice.
Anyhow, it's on right now if anyone in the Pacific Time zone wants to watch.
