Lisa's Master Cleanse

Hiya!

Thats awesome with the weight loss! Yeah I have heard that some of the detox symptoms are getting cold symptoms and a headache. I am looking forward to seeing the different detox symptoms though and then seeing them go away. and I cant wait to see what this white tongue thing is all about lol.

The salt water flush for me today was HORRIBLE! lol it took me about 15 minutes to get 3/4 of it done and then I just gave up cause I knew I would throw up if i tried anymore. I'm dreading tomorrow morning when I have to try it again. I actually really like the tea, though, so if I have to just do the tea morning and night, I will.

I have had a little bit of a craving for solid food....just something to chew....lol its only my first day and I am already complaining so much, but I really am serious about this thing and I will persevere. Its good to hear from people who have done it with great results, so thanks for sharing.

Sorry for maintaining radio silence. I too have big problems with the flush. There is an alternative though. The salt water flush is not 100% necessary. You can simply take a second laxative tea in the morning with similar results and less nausea. :) As for the cayenne, if it is bothering you you may well be using too much. It really only takes a tiny amount. If mixed properly you will barely even taste it over the lemon.

How much are you putting in each drink?

Gonna try it right along with you

Hi Lisa; I get the shakes without protein on account I have hypoglycemia...but I might try this for 3 days and see how it goes. How are you doing?

Thanks for stopping by Sirant :)

I think I am actually getting the hang of the salt water flush. Its not fun, but I have been able to get it down the last 2 days.

As for the cayenne I think I am going to try it again. I only tried it once and it was right after I did my first salt water flush and I was feeling really nauseous, so it might not have really been that bad, I was just psyching myself out. I don't have a measuring thing that measures 1/10tsp so I used the 1/4 and tried to do a little less than half....I might have done too much though.

I actually have hypoglycemia too.....or I used to........I became a vegetarian and my blood sugar levels became normal and I no longer get the shakes. But this cleanse hasn't given me anything like that. You drink the lemonade pretty often, so you shouldnt have drop in your blood sugar.

I would suggest going for more than 3 days though, cause days 2 and 3 are the worst lol. I am doing pretty good, yesterday was hard (BAD caffeine withdrawal headache), but I feel much better today.

Todays weight: 237.4 (-2.3lbs)

Well yesterday was hard. Note to self: Don't go to Macaroni Grill. I went with a friend cause she hadn't eaten and wow it smelled so good lol. I didn't eat anything...not even a bite, but man was it hard. Then we went to the mall to just walk around and I smelled each individual smell in the food court. I think my sense of smell is enhanced lol. Then I had to go babysit, which was NOT fun with the headache I had (it was a truly horrible one). The baby (7 months old) is usually really good, but last night he decided to be really fussy, which did not help the headache. I came pretty close to breaking down and taking ibuprofen and eating something cause the headache was so bad, but thankfully I was able to talk myself out of it. I went to see Pirates of the Carribbean after that, which I didn't enjoy as much because of (again) the headache lol. So....overall......the lesson I learned is that on the major detox days- don't be social lol. Today is supposed to be another bad day so I am just staying in and relaxing. Tomorrow I am going to start exercising again.

My tongue is getting the white film that its supposed to....its kind of cool lol. And my BMs keep coming...amazingly. It's cool because in the book he explains the detox symptoms but he also explains things that will happen that signify you are doing it right (i.e. the white tongue). So it's exciting to see it really happen.

Today's salt water flush was a litte harder than yesterday's, but I think thats because I still had the headache when I woke up and was feeling a little nauseous. But as soon as I had my BM, it went away........just like he said in the book. Today I am mostly just tired, but I usually get like this after I have a migraine.

I am going to try to increase the amount of lemonade I am drinking everyday. The last 2 days I have only had 7 glasses, I want to get it up to 9 or 10. I drink a lot of water, though. I have never had to pee so much in my life lol.

Well I guess that's all for now....more updates to come.

Hi Lisa; glad the cleanse is going well for you. I was surprised to learn you're also hypoglycemic and that's right...the lemon should keep blood sugars at a decent level.

I went to my favorite store Nature's Best, where they sell organic food, locally produced, beef, bison, fish, etc. and they make delicious home made soups, vegetable and fruit drinks, cookies, sandwiches ... it's like dying and going to HEALTH FOOD heavan!! Anyways, I buy my organic lemons and grade B maple syrup and the 50-some year old guy at the checkout says, Master Cleanse right? I said yah, do a lot of people do this? He said Oh ya. And then he advised me to stay on it more than 3 days because he said the same as you...day 2 or 3 can be the hardest and that it's really not bad to stay on it for 10 days. He said most everyone in his store has done it and felt great afterwards. Said their skin was so incredible afterwards...and I thought that's right, the skin is the last organ to be cleansed when de-toxifying. Cool.

Well, now that I've gone to the health food store and bought my ingredients, my tea too. I made my first 2 lemon drinks and it tastes just fine. My salt water flush this a.m was fine too, but hola! Talk about pee-ing out of the poo hole! Sorry if that grossed anyone out. LOL:rotflmao:

I get home though and find I don't have any cayenne. Doh! So I'm going to the store right now to buy some. I'm excited about doing this. I've never done a cleanse before.

Yay, I'm glad you decided to do it. This is my first cleanse as well, so I'm learning as I go lol. I'm so jealous that you didn't have a problem with the salt water lol, I dread that thing every morning. But it is incredibly effective, so knowing that helps me get it down.

Thats funny that everyone at the store does the cleanse and the guy knew what you were doing. I felt like it was pretty obvious when I went to buy my ingredients. I'm guessing they get a lot of people buying that stuff, though, cause they had a whole huge display of the Grade B Organic Maple Syrup.

I put a few dashes of the cayenne in the drink im drinking right now and its not bad. The cayenne gets hotter the longer you let it sit in the liquid though.

I'm looking forward to the clear skin as well. I've heard it might get worse before it gets better because all the toxins are being released before they are flushed.

Did you get the laxative tea? I actually like that stuff lol, it has a nice sweetness in the back of your throat, so thats the part I look forward to the most :)

Good luck and keep me posted on how you are doing (you can just join this journal if you want lol).

Ya, no kidding, Mal. This is not a good idea for anyone who has not already learned healthy eating habits over the long-term. I am not a proponent of the quick fix or easy weight loss, because there is no such thing. All of us have to go through the same gate ... and that gate is slow steady loss over the long term, focussing on lifestyle change.

I really want to add that in this thread because if someone new comes, I would feel irresponsible having them read this thread and say, "Yah, this looks good, man" (think Wayne's World) only to be sorely disappointed 10 days later when permanent habits have not been entrenched in their lifestyle and therefore, weight gain is inevitable.

I want to add this post I found on the internet:
This is a lemonade-based fast prescribed for detoxification and weight loss. Highly regarded naturopaths prescribe this and according to Stanley Burrough's book (written in the 1940s), this is a healthy way to fast because between the lemons and the maple syrup you get all the micronutrients you need to sustain the body. Grade B syrup has higher contents of those macronutrients so use it if you can find it. Also, organic lemons are best. The cayenne's role is to help break up toxic deposits within the body. The citrus can do that as well; the cayenne just helps it go faster. It would be well to get a colonic during the time of your fast in order to aid along the detox/weight loss process. Use this fast with spiritual goals in mind and you can achieve great results.

That spiritual piece really spoke to me because I'm feeling at a crossroads with my career and have not a clue which way to turn. I plan to do some meditating this week while on the fast. Here's what my horoscope says:
It's like you were bitten by a Volkswagen-sized spider, and now you're just waiting, paralyzed, for it to return and suck out your insides. Only the waiting can last months or years, and there's no spider venom; this incapacitation is purely self-induced. What you need to know is that it only gets worse; the longer you wait before you act, the harder it will be. The thing you also need to know is that it's never too late to step up and do something. Quit waiting, you delusional creature. Haven't you suffered enough? I guarantee that whatever you do now will hurt you less, in the long run, than not doing anything, and, even if it stings a bit now, you won't regret it.

I thought that was hilarious and after reading it, I want to quit waiting for something to present itself to me and become more active in my search for a new job. This cleanse, combined with some meditation will hopefully give me (as Oprah says) AHA moments. If I start levitating, Lisa, just pull me down, okay? :jump:

Lisa, THANK you so much for allowing me to join your diary on this cleanse. I really appreciate it. Interesting the cayenne gets hotter the longer the drink sits...I'll remember that! Yes, I bought the laxative herbal tea and will try it for the first time tonight before bed. I wonder if you have been sleeping well despite the headache? I hope so.

you're starting a trend :)

lol

That's great if people want to look into The Master Cleanse, but I just recommend really researching it. I am not doing it solely for the weight loss. I have already gotten pretty good at eating healthily, but I still battle pretty badly with cravings and giving into them. By doing this cleanse I am battling cravings in a MAJOR way, but I am learning to recognize them and resist. You also see how much of your time is devoted to food everyday. So, while I am hoping for some weight loss, this is mostly a stepping stone to healthier eating (even though I did pretty well before).

Also I have learned about the other benefits of the cleanse as 2Skinny mentioned. The spiritual aspect...it really clears your mind (day 8 is supposed to be when this really happens). The detox aspect- your skin becomes clearer, you feel energized, etc...

But the cleanse involves many unpleasant things (i.e. poop-lots of it) and the detox symptoms. The salt water itself is pretty horrible lol. So I think that unless someone really understands what the cleanse is supposed to do, they might not stick with it. I know I wouldnt lol.

So that is my little disclaimer lol. :)

Thank YOU 2Skinny for joining my diary. It will be good to see the different ways our bodies react to the cleanse.

Yes I slept fine last night despite the headache. I usually just need to sleep when I get a headache like that, so the problem yesterday was that i was out of the house until 2A.M.

That quote you put in made me feel better about the cayenne lol. I have drank 2 cups now with a sprinkle of cayenne, I will just try to work up to 1/10tsp.

Thats awesome about the spiritual aspects that you are going to utilize. I'm sure you will have a AHA moment lol. I don't have a specific issue with the spirituality, but I am looking forward to having a clearer mind, cause right now it just feels all fuzzy.

An update for today:

No headaches today. I'm just a little achey and lethargic. Not in a horrible way, but the book said to expect this type of thing on bad detox days. I am getting used to the lemonade with a little cayenne.

I just realized now that I am the lowest weight I have been, even from before I gained back some from finals and my vacation. I don't really want to set a goal for weightloss with this, but anywhere in the 220s would be nice. After I am done with my 20 days on this I will probably go raw vegan or at least vegan for another 20 days so that my body doesn't freak out on me as it re-adjusts to food lol. But for the first few days after the cleanse you are supposed to only drink fruit juice, and eat salad and some vegetable soup.

I guess I still have a while until I need to start thinking about that....right now I'm just enjoying the ride of the cleanse. If my tongue gets really white I might post a picture just to gross everyone out :p right now it just has a thin white film on it.

wow I'm totally transfixed. This sounds like something I would like to do once I'm closer to my goal weight. You guys are great for posting your results on here, I'm so curious! Thanks for sharing Lisa and Anna!

Day 4

Todays weight: 238.4 (+1lb)- my body is probably starting to realize whats going on.

Today I feel a little better....less lethargic and no sign of a headache. I got the salt water down today, but it was hard lol. I had a lot of BMs today, much more than yesterday. I'm actually going to leave the house today lol, yesterday I just kinda bummed around since I was so tired. But today I need to go to the store and re-stock on lemons and water. And I want a lemon juicer, cause it sucks to have to hand squeeze all of them.

I can't believe I have gone 3 days without eating. That's amazing to me.

Hey, congrats on getting to 3 days, i found them the hardest of all! Its now getting towards the end of day 18 for me, and i find the evenings the worst for cravings! Im quite shocked ive nearly reached 20 days, didnt think i would have the willpower! How are your cravings at the mo? What do you do to forget about your cravings?

Wow! 18 days! Congratulations! I really would like to do 20 days. The cravings are worse today (day 4) than they have been the first 3. I went to the store to get more lemons and water and it was painful to see all that food lol. I am trying to get myself to drink more of the lemonade (I have only been having 7 glasses a day) but I am not really a fan of the taste, so its hard to force myself to drink more. But when I do drink it, it does help a lot with the cravings and feeling hungry. Its almost instantaneous relief.

I have a few questions if you dont mind my asking. Have you taken the salt water flush every day? If so, are you still having stuff come out? sorry, thats a little bit of a personal question. Also, just out of curiosity, how much weight have you lost?

I have taken the salt water every morning, i used to go to the toilet ALOT!! But havent been now in probably 3 days.. sorry i know thats kinda gross! But i think most of the yucky stuff must have been flushed from my system by now. In all i have lost about 20 pounds. As im fairly busy in the days with work i sometimes only manage to get 3-4 glasses of the lemonade down, which is no way near enough, but i average 5-6 glasses on normal days, are you using the madal bal syrup, or just normal maple syrup? Ive been using just regular maple syrup but wandered if the results are different with the madal bal?

We are not alone...there are others...

Hi Luke; great to have you around here too!!
Emmalauren; wow...almost 20 days...I'm impressed. You can definitely get through the next two nights. For cravings...sometimes I take out my nicest jeans or dress out of my closet, that don't fit yet, and I try them on and look in the mirror. It helps me remember why I'm disciplining myself. When I told the health-food-store guy I plan to be on this cleanse for only 3 days, he said I might be surprised at how good I feel and after 3 days I'll believe I can do far more. Are you already planning your re-entry into food with vegetable soup and orange juice the first couple days?

Hey Lisa; sounds like you're going along tickety-boo. Cravings appear on day 4 huh? I'll watch for that. They should re-name this cleanse the Poor-Little-Pooper cleanse. Thank goodness for soaks in Epsom salt baths. Whew! Like you and Emmalauren, I had most waste the first day.
Today is my 2nd day and I already notice way less trips to the thrown. I don't mind the salt water flush in the morning ... I like the tea at night, and I have 8 glasses of the lemonaide per day. I mix two drinks at a time so I end up drinking the lemonaide 4 Xs per day. So one whole organic lemon, 4 tbsp of the organic maple syrup, 1/5 tsp of cayenne and 20 oz. of lukewarm purified water. I include the lemon pulp as well. I don't really like the taste of the lemonaide...far too sweet. That's why I drink 4 double drinks instead of 8 glasses.
Monday is my day 4 and my first day at the office on this cleanse. I hope to do my salt water flush at 6 a.m. so by 7:30 am when I walk to work, I won't have any accidents. Can you see me running to a house, banging on the door and saying "please let me in, I need your bathroom". A crazed zombie from 28 Days Later, trying to get into someone's house.
Then I'll mix 3 double drinks while at the office and have my final double drink at supper. Like you, I have gained weight so I'm removing my stupid ticker so I don't get discouraged. I bought groceries for my sons today and didn't really feel like eating any of the stuff I was buying. I might feel differently in a few days...but right now I feel oh so pure. ha ha ha

When we were in a smaller store we had eight employees on the cleanse at one time & ONLY one bathroom... talk about a stressful moment or two there. Not to mention you certainly learn alot about each other when you do this cleanse at the same time with coworkers or who ever!

& you are right... as someone who works in a natural foods store.. we ALL know exactly what is up when the lemons & maple syrup come through. Some cashiers even just automatically ask if they need the Smoothe Move tea also!

Hope you all are doing well.

Ok, thanks for answering all those personal questions. I have been wondering if stuff comes out all the way to the end. I am using the organic grade B maple syrup, im not sure if that is the madal bal syrup you are talking about. It really is inspiring, though, to know that you have made it through 18 days. Today was a hard day mentally. My mind battled for a long time and started rationalizing quitting after 10 days, but I really want to go for 20. These 4 days have gone by really quickly, so I'm hoping I will get to day 10 without even realizing it and then be ready and roaring to go another 10.
