Lift, Train, Fitness

I am happy with the pic considering it was taken with just a desk lamp for light and without my tripod for stability, my phone would not have picked out the detail of its mouth. I may still set up with lights and tripod with a couple of extension tubes to see if I can pick up more detail in the shot. If I can get some close ups of the mouth, hubby will probably take copies for work (he works in the science lab at a local high school)

It is the moth/head that usually gets broken off during removal from your skin, when it is left in the wound there is greater risk of a tick borne disease.

Ticks are such sneaky little guys. I lived in one area for a while that I would get so many ticks on me every time i went out walking. I did my best to get them off when I got back but inevitably one would sneak his way in. I didn't know as much about all the problems they can present back then so wasn't worried...but yes, now knowing about all the dangers that can come with them...well glad you got that guy out intact!

I am having a reaction to the tick this morning, pain, lots of swelling, red and oozing, feeling queezy unwell, D has sent pic of wound to our Doc along with symptoms, time to wait and see, still hurts a lot even after taking some pain killers.

:( That sucks Tru--I hope it's nothing serious! Is your cold still bad as well? May you be feeling well all round again soon!

A tick made me the sickest I have ever been. Take care of it, and get onto an antibiotic, if prescribed, as soon as you can. Tick fevers are nothing to trifle with.

general cold is ok, I have never reacted like this to a tick before despite being bitten at least once every year.

our GP (also a friend) does a lot by phone, I really don't want to go to the hospital but being red, hot, oozing, pain and nausea I may have to. I am trying to distract myself away from how bad I feel

Did you send your GP pictures of the bite? In my case the red ring around it apparently was a give away. They also wanted the tick, which I did not have. If you still do, keep it.

Hope its just a false alarm and passes quickly. Mine did not...

Oh dear really sorry to hear how bad you are feeling. I don't blame you for wanting to avoid a hospital visit but yes sometimes necessary! Take care Tru

I am at the hospital waiting for a tetanus shot, swab and antibiotics. My GP took one look at the pic of the bite and and said to get to hospital.

Doc at hospital just commented that it is the most impressive he has seen with the amount of swelling, he is getting second opinion on treatment

I also had a lot of swelling. It took a number of attempts at different antibiotics to find one that worked for me. I was on antibiotics for almost 2 months. As I said never sicker in my life. I sure hope yours goes better!

So glad you went to the hospital Tru. Hope you can get some good treatment and feel better quickly. (@alligatorob how long did it take for you to feel better--was it lyme disease?)

I am home with pain killers and antibiotics that will cover me for Queensland Tick Typhus, the bacteria that causes Lyme disease is not found in Australian ticks.

Doc at hospital was very pleased that correct tick removal procedure was followed, and confirmed there was no tick parts left in the wound.

was also told that the more tick bites I have had, the more sensitive to the poison I will become so looks like I will need to use insect repellent more often when I am out in the garden.

Also at this point I am grateful to be in Australia with our healthcare system and not in the US where something as simple as needing hospital care for an insect bite could plummet you into a lot of debt.

Oh, Tru. That really sucks! Glad you were onto it straight away. We are very lucky here indeed.

Glad you do have good healthcare there Tru! I hope you feel better quickly. That is interesting about the reaction getting worse with each bite, but I guess that's like a lot of allergies too so maybe not too surprising. I try to keep covered when I go walking in the trees, but am not as careful in the garden--it's a good reminder! Hope you feel better soon! (Could that cold have been an early reaction to the tick or was that totally unrelated?)

Unrelated, the tick was not engorged so had not been there long, however it may have contributed to the Thoracic spine pain I had just before finding the tick, which has now gone. The lack of pain in the spine could also be from the strong pain meds for the tick bite.

guess that's like a lot of allergies too so maybe not too surprising.

It is certainly true for my wheat allergy, having gone from an intolerance where I could get away with cross contamination and trace amounts to now reacting to levels that are below the threshold for having to be on food labels and reacting to tiny amounts of cross contamination.

I am having a real shit day, I am in pain, I am groggy from the pain medication, trying to concentrate on an anatomy lecture while groggy is a shit experience and to top it of my textbook that should have arrived a month ago is still bouncing around the postal system and Aus post is throwing all sorts of excuses claiming several times to have "fixed" the problem, yet have not. this time the excuse is that the sender miss addressed the parcel (they didn't I have a photo of the shipping label) prior to that they claimed the shipping label must be torn. I have an exam soon and need that text book GRRRRRR.

To top everything off there is nothing to snack on in the pantry, everything is food for the rest of the family I cannot eat, and being groggy I cannot drive to town to go shopping.

I cannot hit the home gym to de-stress because lifting heavy shit while groggy is a recipe for disaster.

Sorry you're having such a crappy day Tru. Hope it gets better soon if it hasn't already...All sound very frustrating!

That sucks and I hope venting helped a little bit.
