Legs...comments of the helpful variety please

OK. No one likes to hear criticism but this is needed for me to progress so fire away!

Disclaimer: And these pictures were taken by my 7 year old daughter so I think she did pretty well and I cropped out the skewed part and my slippers in the background. I have much ground to cover and it will be awhile before I post my glutes. Ew. Scary. :) I must keep honest and I have been AWFUL lately. Sigh. Feeling so hoss.

Could you be more specific... do you mean leaner? I do realize I am not as lean as needed yet. Can you expand a bit? I honestly need specifics. Lower body is tough to get lean but I am doing a good bit of interval training to get there.

You are so beautiful, Mel Def. There is nothing to critique.

You sure have spawned a fawn, young lady:

The sun was low as it was DAWN; Mel Def YAWNED. The sun rose in the sky with much BRAWN and Mel Def looked over at her shadow on the LAWN and realized she has just SPAWNED a FAWN on her LAWN.

Soon the sun had WITHDRAWN and to Mel Def's surprise instead of a grassy implant of FAWN it was really a SWAN.

You are so beautiful.

=====================

You are the anchor of LIGHT with a non stop fitness FLIGHT and your halo shines BRIGHT

Your soul for training and dieting isn't black and WHITE because you are the QUEEN of of dieting and training all through the NIGHT: take FLIGHT; stay UPRIGHT; be your ultraviolet LIGHT!

Will I ever get stronger and better than I am NOW?!

How?

POW!!!!!!!

With a personal blast of Rock-On WOW!!

Do you see it NOW?!!

Wholly COW!!

Confucius say:

A woman who drive's internal Rock-Ons like hell are bound to get there.

So Blast off today!

Muh! Ha, ha, ha :)

Its all you, Mel Def!...................>Pump the heart UP.

And, let the ROCK-On's let the body KNOW what the hell's sup!

One more thing to remember as you battle and WIN:

The only true "medication relief" is the contents of the skull attached to your neck.........

Look at you: Your body is willing in your application, your mind is consenting in your innovation, now connect the heart for dedication to meet your destination.

(One can move many mountains with correct spirit and mental toughness, and can create their own avalanche of rocks while trying to go up if one isn't careful.--(Chillen)

Be aware of your internal enemies. Draw them close. Get to know them. Know them well. Connect your heart and your soul within and cast a spell and throw them all in hell! Oh.......what a fuggen, smell!

You have it all, young lady. Look no further than within yourself for all the answers you ever need.

ROCK ON, my dear young lady.

Best regards,

Chillen

Wow Chillen. I'm all tear spilling eyes watering.. that is nice. Thanks. Sometimes I feel beautful, strong and mighty. Other times, not so fab. My next comp I want some strong lean legs and if I have to run to California to get em and do 5000000 squats I am signed up.

K that might not have sounded right.

What i meant was i just assumed u were a guy and never really looked at you avatar obviously.

Nice legs btw, keep up the good work. :)

Mel,
Your legs look like they are comming in nicely. I can see the sweep and it will show up more as you slim down. The pic in the comp suit-is that from your last comp or is it now? From what I can see in these pics your calfs are looking good. How are your hamstrings doing? I know you didn't want to show a pic of your backside, but ya gotta make sure they are balancing each other....btw I'm sitting here drooling I can't wait until my legs look that good! :D

Well, to start, you don't need to do anything else... your legs look really good now. But if you want more definition - the exercise that creates definition in the quads are leg presses on a sled.... where you are lying/sitting in an approximate 45 degree angle, and you put your feet on a 'sled' - and then push the sled up and down where your knees come down almost to your chest... a modified version of a squat.

That exercise is going to help with definition... now how to get the definition in your quads is be altering the angle of your feet. By turning your toes to the inside/middle - that focuses on the outer quad muscle( I don't know the name of it), by turning your feet to the outside - you work the 'tear drop' or inner portion of the quad, and by keeping your feet straight or neutral - you work the middle of the quad.

To get the calves involved - as you near the end or top of the leg press, push with your calves and go up on your toes - even when your feet are angled in or out. That will really create a burn in them. I've actually seen veins in my calves when I'm really working this exercise. (Don't angle your feet to the extreme where it may cause knee pain... but for me there is a range where my knees don't hurt -- and I've had four knee surgeries on one knee with no cartilege - from college... so I am very 'aware' of knee pain and avoid it at all costs. There is a safe range of angle in your feet when doing this.)

For size - a leg extension or squat will assist better than the above muscle defining exercise -- IMO.

This information came from a former Fitness Competitor - A former Miss Oklahoma and judge of bodlybuilding competitions, who once put on a certified training class many years ago... I have found this to be true with my own quads and calves.

Mel, you have fantastic legs far above the average female. They are very muscular, shapely, and large for a female.

When you say you want "lean legs" are you speaking in terms of "competition lean"? I ask this because this makes the playing field a bit different, and you need to be mindful of your leg progress and definition far more than the average female training for fitness. A person's burning obsession in this field can be quite remarkable, and if one doesn't meet or exceed this level they will not be able to compete at the level they need to. If your frame of mind is sort of wrapped around this, then I understand you.

Remember this, Mel:

You must be aware at every moment. From getting up in the morning, working, training, eating, and going to bed, that this is the place of mastering the self.

Sometimes the body is on par with what you want. Sometimes it is not. Master the mind, removes the blinds, and weaknesses behind. Master the mind, strengths unwind, and a new person you find.

:).............Peace inside Sista.

Best wishes

Chillen

I know this isn't criticism and probably isn't helpful, but I can't help but say I think your legs look amazing. You are strong and beautiful and if you can make your body look the way it does already then certainly you can achieve your goals.

Mel,
The pic in the comp suit-is that from your last comp or is it now?

It's now... I had my daughter take shots in the suit but they were dark and so I messed around with the camera and asked for her to take more after I had gotten dressed. My legs, although I am not as lean as I was at comp, have improved overall. The pics she took of my glutes and hams are blurry so I didn't bother posting them. You can't really tell much but I do know that balance is essential. Thanks!

Genetically I am predisposed to Amazon woman tendencies. I really would like some super slim legs but that would mean sacrificing muscle so that isn't so great. SO accentuate the what I got and make the most of it. People always admire my legs and make a fuss but when someone says large I always feel sort of ungirly- not feminine and petite and all that. Got to love myself as I am and work to make the best of it! I agree totally with your attitude and am concious of what you speak of. Self esteem and my mind are key to believing in myself and having others too. I can't morph into some waif model with super long spindly legs as seen in Vogue. But I feel good when people at the gym move aside because I am muscular and commanding... still there is that part of me that yearns to be stick like.

tcajim- thanks for the advice. What is a sled? I live in the south and not sure I can find a real sled if that's what you mean. But I do appreciate the good advice! :luxlove:

Thanks kitty and wesrman for the nice words. Wesrman thinking I was a man is maybe a bit distressing but then he did admit that he wasn't paying that close attention and then this new person "medic" is unnerving me with his confusion STILL over whether I am a man or not. lol. Maybe it is the English as a second language thing that is causing this individual to come across rather, um, unpleasantly.

Starting to look uber good Mel! You should try cat-walking through Walmart. It will help with self-motivation and trusting yourself. Ontop of the fact you could show off those legs! :)

it's kinda hard to tell without seeing a whole body shot. you know, you sorta need to see where your legs are compared to the rest of your body. It's easy to say "more mass" but I can't really do that when I don't know where you are otherwise. I also don't know where you want to be. BBer, figure competitor? or?

Are you cutting ATM? getting readu for a contest of some sort? If you are, then Mreik might be the guy to talk to, LV too, but he doesn't post here that much anymore.

I don't know anything about bodybuilding and even less about bb competitions, so my comments are based solely on the fact that I have a Y chromosome:

WOW

In reference to a 'sled' - or what I am referring to: It is a machine where you sit down, almost on the ground, and your back is supported in an approximate 45 degree angle... the 'weight' is above your head, and you place your feet on a 'sled' or platform - and 'press the sled and weight' with your legs.

The machine and platform is seen in this 'google images' search.

"Minotaur Fitness Leg Sled/ Hack Squat" (KL613)

It is the machine where the sled is in the air. This is a great defining exercise.

I was unable to copy the picture to my post... I tried but it would not let me.
