Kimmyluna's weight loss diary 1.7

Hello, all, I'm glad to have found this place and I'm hoping with keeping an on-line workout journal that I will gain the support of others. I tried keeping one on shape.com, but found out that nobody really uses it anymore. I will copy and paste the last few days on here.

Posted 24 July 2012 - 10:55 PM

I've wanted to start exercising again and haven't had the motivation to do so and so, I'm hoping with all of you reading my posts will help with that. Right now my stats are:
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 165 lbs
Age: 30

I want to get down to 130-140 lbs. There was one time back in high school when I got up to 150 lbs and decided to lose the weight, but I realized I was restricting myself too much on my diet. I would bring a ham and cheese sandwich, light mayo, something like 3 SnackWell devil's food cake cookies and an apple to school everyday and I don't remember how long it took me to do that to lose the weight. I was up to, I think, size 12 jeans and when I lost the weight, I was at size 9 jeans.

I've also had a job where I was on my feet for at least 8 hrs a day and now since I'm not working, I don't move around so much. I did try starting a fitness routine where I would walk/run for at least 30 minutes a day about 4-5 days a week, but that didn't stick so well. And since I don't move around so much, after trying that, my knees hurt like hell, or really, right below my knee and right above my shins. So, I had to stop for nearly a week to let them recover. I know I tried to push myself too hard for the first time after not exercising for a long time.

Another thing that kinda annoys me, too, right now, is that I barely have any room to move around in my bedroom. And also, living in a trailer, it bounces the floor too much if I jump around. I would love to get some workout dvds to do in my room, but because of all that, that makes it nearly impossible.

I do have dumbells to use: 1, 3 and 5 lb dumbells. And I pretty much have the idea of what exercises I want to do for strength training, getting ideas from different websites. And also, I got a pedometer to use when I do my walking, but I don't think it's that accurate. But, at least I get the basic idea of how long I'm walking, since it has a clock on it, too.

I think I'm going to take out that workout routine I made and get going on that again. I will start walking first before trying to jog again. I hope I will get yall's support on my endeavor!

I do kinda have a job, but it's not really. I drive someone I know's husband to dialysis 3 days a week and get paid $100 to do it. They provide the car and gas and some lunch money, too, which with the lunch, I am grateful for. I've been drinking a lot of soda on those days, which is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So, today, I started to drink more tea than soda. I will allow myself one soda a day, since I don't like to eat breakfast, it never sits right in my stomach first thing in the morning, but I can't live without coffee!

I only got 5 hrs of sleep last night. Tried to sleep for about 3 hrs with no success, finally fell asleep and had to get up at 8:30 in the morning for the job. I get back home at around 5 pm and I was thinking yesterday, I wanted to, when I got home, go back out and do my walk, but I don't function very well on so little sleep. So, now it's 8:00 at night and I am just exhausted. Probably gonna make an early night of it tonight. Tomorrow, will be a new day, so I want to do my walk then. Btw, I don't like to say "try". If I say that, I KNOW I'll make up some excuse not to!

Man, excuses, excuses...the weather outside is getting up to almost 100 degrees during the day and I ended up taking a nap again today for a couple of hours. The weekend I have nothing to do, so I might brave the heat and just go outside and do it! The only thing I want to do is take my turtle out for some natural sunlight (I own a baby red ear slider). I try to do that at least 3-4 hrs once a week, but I pretty much have to babysit, since I have to use ice bags to keep the water temperature cool and have to change those out every 30-45 mins. We'll just have to see how that turns out.

And I may not be doing the driving thing, he just got a call for a heart and kidney transplant. I hope that goes well for him. The only downside is I won't have a job.

Posted 28 July 2012 - 09:16 PM

So, I didn't get to take the turtle out today, helped my hubby, instead, putting the gas tank back on the truck. It needed a new fuel pump. And it definitely was freakin hot! So, I definitely do some sweating today. But, I did decide to do a walk today! Walked for an hour: 30 min one direction, 30 min back. According to my pedometer I did 7068 steps, 3.346 miles and burned 190.8 calories. I always forget how good it feels to sweat and get the heart pumping! It was much later in the day, too, an hour before the sun was setting, so it was pretty cool outside, too. Definitely not a morning person and that would be the only other time it would be cool enough outside. I also did some ab exercises:
Bicycle crunches: 3 sets of 20 reps
Reverse crunches: 3 sets of 20 reps
Regular crunches: 3 sets of 20 reps
I also tried doing the plank and side plank, but man, are those hard! I also heard of an exercise called dumbell side bends where you hold a dumbell in each hand and bend sideways to work the obliques, but I was using 5 lb dumbells and I don't feel any kind of burn doing those. Also, I did a few leg raises where you sit on the edge of a chair and lift your legs up to work the lower abs.

I definitely want to continue walking at least 4-5 times a week and try to pick up the pace today, so I'm walking briskly enough to burn some more calories.

Posted Yesterday, 11:27 AM

I realized after the fact when I took my walk that my pedometer reverted back to the default settings cuz the backing to the battery came loose and reset all my settings! The default settings are that you weigh 100 lbs and have a 30 in stride length! Eesh...So, I went ahead and reprogrammed it and will have a much different reading today! And I wasn't happy about another thing...I weighed myself this morning and now I weigh 170 lbs! I was like OMG...not good not good...Well, when I was taking the guy to dialysis, he loved to get glazed donuts from the donut shop in town and always offered me a couple. For someone who doesn't do breakfast very well, I couldn't resist, even though I really don't like donuts all that much. And I was drinking way too much soda, too. It was only after that first day that I decided to start drinking more tea, did I stop drinking so much soda. I guess it hurt, big time.

But, I do have a feeling that I might be pregnant, haven't had one yet and there's only been a couple of times in life when my dreams came true. But, on the same morning that I dreamt that my period would start a couple of weeks ago, and it did start, that I also dreamt at the same time that I was pregnant. So, I definitely shouldn't dismiss it. I'll be getting a pregnancy test, soon, to see what happens with that.

Posted Today, 12:33 AM

So, I took another walk today for an hour, I did 5221 steps, 1.483 miles and burned 256 calories. And man, did I feel like I was sweating a lot more this time! It may have been just a little bit warmer this time. Still did it from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm, right before it was getting dark outside.

"End of old journal entries"

I'm sorry to anybody who reads this that it's so long, but I wanted to make sure I got it down to keep for records.

Also, today, when I went out in the car, I wanted to see about how accurate my pedometer is and it's about 1.7 miles to go 30 mins in one direction. I did cut back about 5 mins early that last day because I should've gotten out for my walk probably about 15 mins earlier than I should have and the sun was starting to come down and there is no streetlights on our street.

[/quote]

Lol, I didn't mean to keep the 1.7 at the end of my title. I just didn't want to forget the number of miles for the walk! I guess now I won't!:rotflmao:

I will probably end up posting a lot of messages in here, since I don't have much else to do! I hope you all don't mind! The woman's husband I was talking about in the other entries got his heart and kidney transplant! I'm so happy that he will be better!

Today, I want to try starting a run/walk program when I go outside to do my exercise for today. The only other problem I know I will have is nutrition. Not being able to go out and buy my own food to try to keep a balanced, healthy diet will be hard on me. I do have access to some healthy foods, but they like to keep a lot of bread around and high sodium things. I know I shouldn't eat a lot of high sodium things. Like today, for lunch I ate a bowl of rice with soy sauce, sesame seed oil, with hot sauce and seaweed wraps. I'm half Korean, so that's not too weird for me to eat! lol But, for breakfast, I will start eating two packets of instant oatmeal or a small bowl of honey nut cheerios with 2% milk. I'm not that big on breakfast, but I know if I don't, I know my body will get into starvation mode and want to keep the fat retained. For lunch, I will eat one peanut butter and jelly sandwich or one sandwich with 1 slice cotto salami, 1 slice of ham, 1 slice of american cheese and mustard and dinners is usually always different. That's the meal that the whole family eats together. Yesterday, it was one sausage link, baked beans, some corn and spinach. And I also ate a piece of bread with butter and garlic powder on it. I'm not so good at counting calories. I really think it's too much of a hassle and I've never liked strict guidelines. Sometimes there is fruit in the house, but it doesn't usually last that long. The kids love fruit!

I do drink one cup of coffee in the morning, maybe two, with 3 spoonfuls of sugar, 2 spoonfuls of creamer and just a little bit of milk. My favorite cheat is soda. But, I try not to drink any more than one can a day.

We had dinner way too late today, so I didn't have time to go outside to do my walk. We had tuna casserole, it's made of egg noodles, tuna, potato chips, cream of mushroom soup and peas. I'm feeling really full right now, too. I know I ate a little too much. But, my hubby was telling me I should start doing some strength training in the morning and my walk at night. We'll look into the cable and see if there is any workout shows there we can do together. He's 5'5" and probably about 135-140 lbs himself. I am happy I am with a fit person and he doesn't eat like crazy, either. I think he just has a really high metabolism, that's why he doesn't gain weight. He's always been around that weight for the 8 1/2 years that we've been together.

So, tomorrow, if I can't find anything on the cable box, I'll see about getting on youtube or just doing exercises in my room in the morning. When is really the best time to exercise? Before a meal or after? I know you should wait at least an hour after you eat to let your food digest or you'll get cramps. It is just too damn hot during the day to exercise and I've never been a morning person, unless I had a job that required me to get up early.

Went ahead and did lower body exercises:

Regular squats: 3 sets of 20 reps

Plie squats: 3 sets of 20 reps

Wide leg squats: 3 sets of 20 reps

Reverse lunges: 3 sets of 20 reps

Curtsy lunges: 2 sets of 10 reps (those are a little awkward to me)

My plan of action:

Alternating working out body parts to have 2 days rest in between. And one rest day, between two consecutive days of cardio.

Hey Kimmyluna! Welcome!

Looks like you've got a good plan in the making that works for you. As for when to exercise, I've read that it's best to do it before a meal so that your metabolism speeds up.

I think living in a larger household makes it more difficult to eat what's right sometimes. Dinners are usually a family affair and meals are prepared to feed everyone, and there's usually a lot more food prepared than what's needed (at least it was in my case). That was always my issue when I lived at home, was over-eating. It wasn't necessarily that the food my parents made was unhealthy, just that there was so much of it! Just try to exercise portion control at dinner to try and have a bit more control over what you eat and you should do fine!

Good luck!

Thanks le_squish for the support! And I love your user name! And yeah, that is the case with our family, a lot more food prepared that what's needed. We have 7 people living in this house: 4 adults and 3 kids. The youngest is a very picky eater and she doesn't really eat a whole lot, but there's a few of us adults that love seconds, if it's not anything with pasta! Since it fills you up fast. So, yeah, I'm definitely gonna learn portion control at dinner time.

And I see you are pretty much where I'm at when it comes to weight loss! So glad to hear it! I mean, not the current weight part, since I started later than you did. lol How tall are you? I'm 5'3" and so I want to aim to be at least 130 lbs, 120 lbs would be better, but I've never gotten that low before, but I guess I'll see how well the weight loss goes before I get there! And thanx again for being my first spoken supporter! :hurray:

I just did my arm exercises for today:

Using 3 lb dumbells, doing 3 sets of 10 reps for each:

Front Shoulder Raises

Side Shoulder Raises

Leaning forward shoulder blade (arms straight down) lifts with tricep kickback

Same with arms to the sides

Palms up bicep curls

Palms down bicep curls

On back chest presses (arms perpendicular to the floor) with tricep extension

" " " " (arms horizontal to the floor) " " "

Tricep dips

And push-ups on the knees, but those have always been hard for me, so only 2 sets of 10 reps

Superman pose 10 seconds 3 times

Feeling so good right now, typing is a little hard, as they feel like jello!

And so far, what I ate today:

Breakfast: one cup of coffee, two packets instant oatmeal = 520 cal

Lunch: one sandwich: wheat sub roll, about a tbsp on yellow mustard, one slice of cotto salami, one slice of black forest ham and one slice of american cheese = 435 cal

And I'm so proud of myself, I put away the soda and got a bottle of water, instead! Woo-Hoo! So, so far, 955 calories. And pizza is what's for dinner tonight. It says 1/6th of a pizza with 6 servings per pizza, so no more than 2 slices of pizza will be 350 calories and that will put me at 1305 calories. Not that bad!

I am going to go ahead and do my walk before dinner time. And tomorrow will be back to ab work again!

Thanx, Korrie! I really appreciate it!

So, I did take my walk before dinner time and I don't think that was the greatest idea. It was still way too hot outside. It was from 5:20 to 6:30 pm. I added those extra 10 minutes, because the middle child decided he wanted to go with me, but not even 10 mins into it, he wanted to go back home, so I called his Grandma (that lives with us) to come pick him up. About 45 mins into it, I felt so winded! And my face was beet red!

And I think I over did it on the pizza. They had 3 different kinds: cheese pizza, pepperoni and canadian bacon, and ultimate meat. The pepperoni one 350 for 2 slices, the meat was 340 per one slice. But, I had two of the meat and one of the pepperoni. The damage: 1030 calories. Eek! The total was 1985 plus one plum for dessert that is 30 calories = 2015. I guess that's okay if I want to maintain weight at the activity level that I'm at.

Just some links I want to remember so I don't forget them.

http://www.fitwatch.com/qkcalc/weight-loss-calculator.php

And I was also bad, I had a soda. so, that puts me at 2185 cals today.

Well, tomorrow will be a new day and I can try again to not eat too much. But, I am glad for one thing, I'm actually been able to track my calorie intake! Yay for me! lol

Ive learned to track everything good or bad! i used to not track if I had a bad day, but it helps keep you motivated when you realized how yucky you've been eating. No more guessing game for me. You look like you're kicking butt though! Good job.

EshaBoo - thanx for the compliment! I really am trying lol Though, I ended up also having a cup of Rocky Road ice cream last night. Mama was buying a pint of ice cream each for everybody, but I couldn't resist. I need to just give the rest away to the kids! Which I think I will! ugh, definitely had a bad calorie day yesterday...

But, I started out this morning with an hour walk, which was definitely better than the evening walk. Instead of it being 90-95 degrees, it was 75-80 degrees. Am definitely gonna try to get up in the mornings to do that. Ended up taking a 4 hr nap after dinner, then couldn't get back to sleep, so I've been up since about midnight last night. The sleepies is now just starting to hit me, now that's it 8:48 in the morning! So, will take a few hrs to sleep today, get up, have a cup of coffee and I also need to clean out the turtle tank today, as well as do my ab exercises.

Will post more later on my calorie count. I am going to skip the sugar this time in my coffee and have no-cal sweetener, instead. At least, that'll cut out 180 calories that's not needed!

ah well, we all have our bad days! I'm weak in the knees for rocky road myself! lol or any other kind of ice cream! sounds like you took a really good walk though! good job!!

So, so far, here's my calorie count:

one cup of coffee with no-cal sweetener and creamer = 80

peanut butter and jelly sandwich on a whole wheat sub roll = 510

banana = 105

another cup of coffee with regular sugar (the hubby made it cuz I almost forgot I made another pot) and creamer = 260

total so far = 955

and I think the peanut butter and jelly sandwich was a much better idea cuz I'm not feeling hungry and it's already almost dinnertime! Not sure what's for dinner yet, but will track that later.

Ab exercises for today, 3 sets of 20 reps each

Regular crunches

Oblique crunches

Reverse crunches

Reverse crunches with legs almost horizontal to the floor

Leg lifts sitting on edge of the chair

Also, tried the plank, but man, is that hard!

Dinner: one bowl of ramen with one large egg, half a sheet of seaweed and some hot sauce = 455 it was potluck tonight (every once in a while when there's nothing planned for dinner, it's fend for yourselves night!)

total calories: 1410 calories So, if I stay at around that many calories, I should reach my goal weight by March 9, 2013, given I don't up my intensity level on my exercise.

I am so tired right now...:drooling: slept for 4 hrs today, but don't want to go to bed until at least 10 pm, so I keep on a regular schedule, now that I decided I wanted to do my walks in the morning. Will set my alarm for 6 am, sun will come up at around 6:30 and then I will take my walk.

So, I couldn't sleep very well last night and ended up eating too much again, I was just too hungry! So, I don't even want to THINK about how much calories I consumed...so a new day, a new me! That's what I had to keep telling myself. So, I woke up at around 1 pm today after not falling asleep until about 4:30-5:00 this morning, so no breakfast. Still, want to try to get up early again to do my walk in the morning tomorrow, since I didn't today.

Calorie count:

breakfast: just coffee = 80

lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs, one pb&j sandwich, one cup of 2% milk and a half of a banana = 832.5

dinner: 1 sausage link, about 15-20 tator tots with salsa and bbq sauce and a soda (I know, bad me. Really trying to cut out the soda!) = about 690.5

total: 1773 (still, not too bad. at least it's not in the 2000 mark)

I am gonna try for a high protein diet. Let's see what happens!

Still, had problems sleeping. Slept maybe 3 hrs last night and had to get up in the morning to go to Wal-Mart. I guess I did end up getting a little exercise cuz when we got there, I had to use the restroom real quick and couldn't find them and walked around the whole Wal-Mart about 4 times until I finally spotted them. Slept another 5 hrs this afternoon, too.

No breakfast, had two cups of coffee = 160

lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs, one chicken salad sandwich = 590

dinner: 2 tacos and one soda = not sure on the calories there, maybe 770-970

total: max 1720

it's now 1:30 in the morning and I'm feeling hungry again...make it stop!

Got a new sports watch to help me on my walks. I keep wanting to add some jogging, but my hip flexors (don't know what to call that. the part in the front that bends when you sit down) have been feeling sore, lately, so I don't know if I will be able to. And I'm going to make a conscious effort to not have a soda tomorrow. I will be so proud of myself if I don't!

Doing much better today, food wise. I did get up early this morning to do my walk, trying to incorporate some jogging into it, but my lower shins started to hurt like hell and had to cut it 30 mins short, so I did get a 30 walk with about 5 minutes jogging in there, not continuous. Only got about 3 hrs of sleep again last night, but I'm staying up today to get to sleep early tonight. Been keeping myself busy, playing with the kids, reading and finding new music on youtube. Kina Grannis is an awesome singer. I forget to put music on a lot of time and it helps to pass the time quicker when I'm sitting at the computer, since I end up watching the music videos. I've also found a lot more motivation tips on shape.com. They have a lot of good information.

Food log so far for today:

2 cups of coffee = 160

lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs, one chicken salad sandwich with one roma tomato, a leaf of lettuce, slice of velveeta sharp cheddar and a little bit of mustard = 707

total: 867

trying not to consume any more than 1691 calories, so I should be good with the amount of calories I can consume, then.

no soda, as of yet! woot woot lol
