kelly's diary

Wow! That is some really good exercise time!
The avoiding compulsive eating thing is amazing! A month just sounds like a long time, so I think you definitely deserve some applause for that... but we don't have an applause icon, do we?
Hmm, I'll try this: :applause: :D

Hey there...Dont let yourself be hungry or go hungry i think that is the worse thing you can do, it leads to binges and such...If you are hungry you need to eat...have you tried eating more filling things...however id o knwo that I based my sparks people off of 30 mins of exercise a day as a minimum and htat doesnt count my exercise from work and they told me to eat another 200 cals a day...If you are exercising daily and regularly your body needs more...I was stuck ina rut forever, eating 12200 clas a day exercising my butt off and wasnt loosing, slowly gaining in fact once I upted my cals I started loosign my weight regularly agian:):):)anyway you will figure it out that is hte hardest part...touch and go, one day at a time and finding what works for you.

It seems like I've always got something going on a meal or water or a snack. I am definitely not the sort to go hungry. Thanks guys.

calories

Speaking of which I'm just over 1700 for today. Had a salad for supper with croutons, raisins and walnuts and boy those cals add up fast. Desert was a cup of plain yogurt with sliced banana and cinnamon. I'm not full but I can tell I've eaten so I'm just trying to stay mellow with a bottle of water. Took the day off from walking.

sunday morning

One of the things I told myself when I began this journey was that all I was trying to do was to lose weight. That's it. I'm not trying to do the hard stuff like work on my personality. I'm just dropping weight. Sounds obvious but it pared down the task for me.

Another thought was that if I stayed fat, if I didn't change my ways, I would NEVER be thin. I realized then that to not change is like staying in a prison of never changing and that change represents a kind of freedom. Being thinner, I hope to be more vital, so that I can be even more to the people in my life.

I am looking for that subtle feeling of glee each day that comes from staying in my range. Its a new feeling but it has a higher taste than one more bag of Doritos.

Sunday after supper

I love this feeling of being DONE my calories for today and now I am free (from overeating)and filled with glee at my little accomplishment.

Keepin' the faith.

Sorry for invading your diary! lol, but my reply to your message was too long to send you. I hope you don't mind me putting it on here. So here's the story of my weight loss When I found out I was pregnant I weighed 180 lbs and I was 3.5 weeks along. I got horrible morning sickness and lost 15 lbs in the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy I was very sick and stayed at 165lbs until One day around 25 weeks I found out that I had gallstones, I was put on a very low fat diet (under 20 grams a day) to keep gallbladder attacks to a minimum. Well, I started gaining weight in water around 29 weeks and by 37 weeks I was back to my pre pregnancy weight of 180 lbs. I gave birth at 37 weeks and had surgery with many comlications and was in the hospital for 3 weeks. When I got out of the hospital I was 148 lbs. After being home for a few months I realized my weight was starting to creep back up (I was at 152) I thought "No way, I've lost all this weight, I want to keep losing!" Well I was and am still breastfeeding my daughter so I had to make sure I was getting adequate nutrition and calories so I shot for 1600 calories a day and when I saw that my milk supply was still good I dropped down to 1500 calories a day. lost around 1.5- 2 lbs a week until I hit 135 ( a loss of 15 lbs) My weight went back up to 137 and I stayed there for a couple of months, it was then that I decided I needed to incorporate exercise into my routine. I began doing about an hour of exercise a day, split half and half between areobics and strength training. I started losing again and got down to 134.5. Well then I've started having complications with my surgery again have to stop exercising until we find out what's wrong. So 4 days ago I started on the slim fast diet. Well, because I'm breastfeeding I modified it so that I can eat enough calories to sustain my milk supply. Here's what I do everyday. Breakfast: (slim fast shake) snack: (30 grapes) Lunch: (slimfast meal bar and 150 calorie half-sandwich) Snack: (slim fast peanutbutter crunch snack bar) Dinner: (Chicken, carrots and either rice, potatoes or mac and cheese, all adding up to 650 calories.) Snack (30 more grapes) I've been doing that for 4 days and have lost 2.5 lbs, bringing me down to 132 lbs. So that's my weight-loss journey in a nutshell ) If you have any more questions or just want to talk let me know!

well...

Well, the scale says I stayed the same today, even though earlier in the week I was down a pound.

So at 192 I can say I lost 8 pounds in my first month.

Qjay

Whoa thanks, I hadn't thought of that. The fun part? The feeling after my walk today (I think I matched your 80 minutes) that today is a new day. I need to space my calories out better though so I have some left before bedtime.

Hi Kelly,
Just thought i would pop onto your diary to say hello. I didnt have time to read it all, but from what i have seen you are doing great!
Have a wonderful day
Michelle :D

The fun part = fun Italics for sarcastic emphasis, in this particular case. The hardest part of reaching a fitness goal is usually the very last bit, and in the middle stages it becomes more difficult to measure success by the way you feel; as compared to yesterday or the day before, etc.

I am just reinforcing the FUN aspect of it. How do you feel as compared to a few months back?

today's food

Qjay, I've only been at this for a month. I'm glad at least that I have started. Today was a day of diet confusion. South Beach? Count calories?

Anyway, here is my food for today

Breakfast
Oatmeal, unsweetened applesauce
Coffee, honey and cream

Lunch
Tofu and mushroom sauce
mashed potatos
Cabbage

Snack
Banana
1/2 cup plain yogurt

Hungry
Pot roast beef

Presupper snack, hungry
honeydew melon and 20 almonds

Supper beef broth
multigrain bun
baked squash
minifruit yogurt

All for about 1905 calories. I'm not even stuffed. I don't know how you guys do it. Walked 4 miles. Bought fancy new sneakers.

Awesome for the sneakers! I'd wear them around before taking them on a 4 mile walk, as it's good to break in your shoes before putting them through their paces. you're feet will thank you later! :D

And good number on the cals! That's a great number! :D Keep up the good work, and you're weight will just melt off! :D

1900 calories is a great number for most people who are trying to lose weight and eat healthy amounts of food. ;)

I remember that you haven't been at this for long, which is why I mentioned "a few months back". Do you feel better than before you started? Are there any aches and pains that are gone now? Do some clothes fit better than they did before? Is there anything you really notice about your energy levels now?

I am finally starting to feel some differences from before to now; just a few, but they are nice, so I like to ask other folks if they are feeling/noticing any changes. :D
