Hi, Tropic girl. Just wanted to stop in and say thanks for the rep on the "fat breakdown" thread.
The day you rep'ed me was my Bday. So, I'll think of it as a birthday present.
Happy Birthday!

Hi there! I know how you feel about not being able to weigh in. That's what keeps me accountable. But since I planned to eat whatever this week, the HC bonus was well timed bc i don't want to know what i weigh!! haha.
Here's hoping you weigh in at 139 or below!
Your Japanese food looks yummy, once again. I know how you feel about the f-n-law coming. I haven't seen my in-laws since i put on this weight, and I would be embarrassed to have them see me this way, too. Gives you extra motivation, eh?![]()
Extra motivation is always good! The in-laws are super sweet but even when I wasn't overweight I would be so nervous about going to visit them in Japan because I have a complex about being the fat foreigner. The first time I went to see them I was so freaked out I made myself sick and couldn't keep down food for two days before my plane trip it was terrible!![]()
I hope you've gotten over that. It's not as though there aren't any fat Japanese. If your in-laws or anyone else judges you solely based on your weight, then their opinions don't matter much. Screw them. Whos cares what they think. Unless you were morbidly obese, I don't think most people would even notice, anyway. Hell, I was 180-190lbs the entire time I was in Korea, and no one thought I was the plague. In fact, just the opposite. That is an unhealthy complex you need to get over.
I know it is so stupid what makes it stupider is that his parents have never told me anything other than I'm a beautiful girl. Before the pregnancy I was thinner than his sister. I guess because you already feel so out of place with how you look at least weight is one of the things under my control. When I think about it rationally no one probably cares what my weight is except me.![]()
You said it, girl. I don't think you have anything to worry about. His family seems really nice, and I know plenty of foreigners who lived in Japan who never got any crap about being bigger. I think most Asians just expect Westerners to be bigger. And you are so tiny, that I just don't know why you'd feel so self-conscious. You certainly fit in there much better than I did..lol. Hey, I am 5'9" and weighed as much or more than most of the men there. I stood out like a bull in a china shop..lol. But Koreans were always telling me (unsolicited) how beautiful I was. And the Korean women, and some of the men wished they had my height (although probably not my weight..lol).

Woohoo! Finally made it to the 130's with an even 139!! I just want to say thank you because so many people have been supportive and put up with my endless bitching.![]()

I ate so much today but it's good because I really have been needing to up the calories.
-Yogurt smoothie and a 1 cup of milk
-Zousui (home made this time)
-Rasberry mocha (I felt a bit naughty about this one..)
-White curry from Hokkaido (a friend brought it as a souvenir and it was sooo delicious!!! I used mushroom, potatoe, carrot, and onion)
So I decided to try something a little different and thought it would be nice to add recipes for some of the food we make because recipes for Japanese food are not always easy to find in English. So todays recipe is for Zousui and it's 2-3 servings. (You can adjust it to your taste)
Zousui
4 cups water
1 pack dashi for seasoning
1/2 a teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon sake
2 teaspoon mirin
1 tablespoon Soy sauce
2 eggs (mix them together)
Chopped mushrooms (As much as you like)
Japanese Rice: For the rice I use 6 oz uncooked rice with 1 cup water in the rice cooker.
So you boil the 4 cups of water with dashi seasoning to taste
Then add salt, sake, mirin, soy sauce, and mushrooms and cook for 15 minutes med. to high heat.
Then you add the rice you cooked and the two eggs mixed together and cook for 7 minutes. The soup will become a little thicker and then you'll know it's done.
It's super easy to cook and you can really add whatever you like to the mix like salmon, etc. The ingrediants you can probably find at a local Asian market and in many big grocery stores as well. Once you have soy sauce, mirin and sake you have the base for most Japanese dishes so if you like J cooking you'll get a lot of use out of them and you can make lots of dishes very cheaply and quickly.
That looks interesting. What is dashi and mirin? I'm wondering if my Korean supermarket will carry them.
Dashi is like a soup stock, usually we use the onethat comes in little packets but it comes in powder and liquid form as well. Mirin is sweet and is similar to sake but has a lower alcohol content. You can probably find them in your Korean market because we have found it in Chinese owned markets in the past as well as the J-mart.

I will look for them the next time I go there.
Hope your week is going well!![]()

What is a Vaio? How'd your workout go?!
