Justina: Back to square one - very excited & determined to do this right

Good luck with the reboot, though I really would be interested to see what would happen in you ate at TDEE - 20% for 6 weeks. I think that it could really help you keep a more steady weight loss. I have read of a lot of people stalling out on low calorie diets that say they start losing a lot better on higher cal diets (plus you get to eat more!haha)
I am also on TOM (clearly we need to spend less time on each others diaries! They always say girls sync up when they spend too much time together!). I had wondered why my scale was not being nice to me yesterday and now I know!

Justina, that is so awesome to hear you are doing the reboot. That movie is seriously so inspiring. I've honestly just turned it on for a few minutes when I've gotten frustrated, or did not see the harm in eating junk 'just this once'.......watching it always puts me back in the right frame of mind. I kind of did a reboot when I first began this lifestyle change. Not as hardcore as a 'real' reboot but it definitely helped me out. I hope you get great results. Retaining can be so frustrating.

Glad you are safe from the severe weather!

Hey Justina, I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling emotionally with the weight loss. I'm not going to profess to know what's right or wrong with various methods; I'm way too new at this stuff to have any real ideas. That said, I like what Mystic has said. I think the body is a very strange and sometimes confusing machine to stay ahead of when it comes to weight loss.

Drop calories in and raise calories burned should give an apparently positive result... but it doesn't always.

If I lower my calories too much (I did that a few months ago) my body rebels at the scale. For me it also depends on where my calories come from... 1500 calories from basket of food #1 gives one result, from basket #2 another result. I have started to understand what works well for me, but it may not work for everyone.

In my case, filling my belly with lots of lean protein may be healthy, but I don't lose weight as quickly. For me, I like about 40-50% greens, 20-30% protein, 5-10% fruits, 5-10% whole grains, and the rest is dairy. That can vary from day to day, but this is the baseline I tend to follow. I don't measure. Things just works out this way. I also listen to my body... when I'm in need of something, I tend to get cravings for it. Maybe not cravings, but I tend to lean towards them when looking up recipes or at menus. Do you ever get that? Like one day you just really want a salad or a steak? Or at the grocery store, the bunch of collard greens looks irresistible?

The other aspect for me is what will I be doing with these calories? Today, I knew I was mowing the lawns and doing more cardio tonight... so I ate a big, protein heavy breakfast and even had a pita (breads are normally off my list). On a lighter activity day, I adjust to greener and lighter meals.

Anyway, sorry to preach. I know you know yourself really well. You'll find the balance and get the results you seek. Keep your body guessing, Justina. :)

Good luck with the Juice fast Justina!! I am sure you will do well because you always find such brilliant ways of doing things. Have you ever done this before?

Quercus - thanks!! Let me know if you make the recipe :D

Mystic - thanks! About the calories - I don't know. One: I don't count calories. Two: I just had more food in the last two days. Result: nearly 4lbs extra...So upset. I like not counting calories. Basically I eat pretty much (within certain foodgroups) as much as I want. Clearly something is not working though. I don't know that 4lbs is only nornal gain or retantion or a combo...but it's annoying.
Tom is only approaching - it's meh - I m getting the munchies a week before - and the water retention too..Ugh!

Camila - the movie is great! I didn't even want to watch it at first - it seemed boring. But it is totally inspiring. I was watching FAQs on youtube about the reboot...there is a lot of free info. love it.

jen_renee - thanks - hope so too!

Don - thanks Don. I don't know what's going on. I have been in this weight-loss business almost all my life. I don't count calories & I usually eat as much as I want from certain food groups (salads, fresh juice etc) I make sure I eat all nutrients I need. & the way of eating resulted in great losses in the past (2 years ago) & in January this year - when I lost 20lbs. Since then I am just struggling. Clearly I need to change something.
I like the way you are eating - it's very "clean" & it's important for me to eat the clean way too: loads of veggies, some wholewheat grains. I still eat white pasta... not a lot - but usually part of a salad (Greek pasta salad) - wanting to get into quinoa pasta - sooo expenisve.. we already pay a lot for groceries as it is...
On the other hand - one thing that definitely has been letting me down - it the lack of motivation for exercise - I always did my hour exercise (bc of the challenge) but I didnt go above and beyond to work out. Until last week, when my husband got on my case. Lol..which was cool - but with the anniversary days I also made some bad food choices.
No need to apologize for "preaching" - I appreciate your words & Taking your time to put down your thoughts!

Xenon - thanks - Never done juice fasting for more than 24 hours. So it will be a challenge!

Hey you guys - thanks for your support & input on the reboot.
This week weigh in results are in & not looking good. I m up 3.5 lbs - it sucks.
I am guessing it's a combo of a few things. Mostly down to making some bad food choices this week - towards the end of the week - I blame the hormones - they told me to eat chocolate, brownie .... :nopity: anyway I have been on the munch....tom time is approaching....
I did loads of exercise though & I am proud of it!! :D I really did more than I usually do - so i m hoping - that just a little bit of my gain is muscle weight!!

Tonight I am starting my juice diet - which will last until Tuesday night. For now. Or Wednesday night the latest.
I don't want to make it longer than that. I want to make it a reboot - rather than a form of losing weight.
I already bought the fruit & vegetables - the fridge is bursting!! I am actually rather excited to do this. My husband wants to do it with me until tomorrow night.
I won't do any high intensity exercise while doing the reboot - apart from today!! Today I will still have proper lunch - so it's ok.

I'll keep my diary up to date about how I am getting on.

Have a fab weekend everyone!

Eh.. TOM is such a pain in the butt. My chocolate cravings are insane! If there's any in the house, it goes directly into my mouth. lol! Great job on the exercise!!! :)

Just keep at it Justina. If you exercise and eat right, the results will come.

If I'm wrong, feel free to hunt me down and throw sharp rocks at me.

If I'm wrong, feel free to hunt me down and throw sharp rocks at me.

Which could be a really good form of strength and cardio exercises all by itself. You should think about this offer...

Justina, sounds like you're ok, just seeking an answer to your stall. I like the idea of trying something new, like the juice diet, for a few days to just try and upset the balance a little. Sometimes, it's all that's needed to get the scales moving again. Good luck and tell us how you're doing.

Don't worry about a gain from eating more than normal. I usually 'gain' 2 or 3 pounds most weekends from higher sodium and eating more, but it drops back down by the next official weigh in on Friday morning. If you do decide to eat more you have to give it a good 4-6 weeks for your body to re-adjust.
Maybe something else you could try is to count your cals for a week or 2, to see a base amount of calories you eat on average per day. Maybe it will surprise you one way or another. Then you can tweak a few things here and there on meals that you eat often so you still don't have to count cals but you can keep cals amounts to where they are best.
Great job on the exercise!

The juice diet might just be an excellent reboot Justina! You are doing so well with the exercises and I'm sure your stall will be over soon. Just don't lose hope...you can do this!

jen_renee - thanks!! tom & chocolate cravings are insane - & I m juicing during the "munchies" - now, this should be fun! (NOT!)

MrVee - hahahaha! Too funny!! I will have to go all the way to AZ. I think (I hope) it won't come to it!! I so want this reboot to work! So it better!!!

Don - thanks!! I hope it works out too - thanks for the encouragement.

Mystic - You know I did think about what you said about eating more etc. It's just it has to be healthy stuff - when I eat more...hmm...You were right about the retention - I haven't even started juicing yet - and I lost 1.5 lb...hmmm - I still can't figure out what it was - I did eat out at taco bell - but it SEEMED healthy what i had - but with fast cheap food - you never know what they put in there....
You know, I might follow your advice and count calories - just out of curiosity - I will keep you posted.

Mands - thanks for your encouragement - I hope it works out!!

So yesterday was still a "normal" eating day for me. I had my usual banana for breakfast, I had a pasta salad for lunch & a home made chocolate-flax seed-meal cake with a banana for mid-afternoon snack! For dinner I had a veggie juice. I did an hour exercise.

& I lost 1.5 lbs!!! Hmmm - I wonder why was I retaining water!! It could have been a tacobell lunch.... it looked so innocent and healthy!! I should have known better...lol.. I guess I found the culprit...
Even though I lost 1.5lbs since weigh in day - I am still up 2lbs from last Saturday...so juicing is ON.

I watched the movie yesterday for motivation - and sure enough I am sooo inspired!

DAY 1 - JUICING

Pre-breakfast: lemon water
Breakfast- mid morning: green apple, celery, cucumber, lime, ginger (2 big glasses)
Lunch- early afternoon: pepper, orange, carrots, pineapple, lemon (2 big glasses)
Late afternoon-evening: carrots, orange, beetroot, beetroot leaf, apple, cucumber, celery (2 big glasses)
After dinner - mint tea

Well I have to drink at least 6 juices today. I made some of the juices yesterday - they keep in the fridge for 48 hours - but my intention is not to keep them in the fridge longer than 24 hours.
So far I had my first glass of juice - still on the second one. & I am feeling good. I have mentally prepared for this. I am planning on going out on the track this morning to walk.

So I watched the movie and it was inspiring. I don't think the initial low energy/feeling poorly will be that pronounced for people that have been on a calorie deficit. I don't have a juicer so I've used my blender and added water to make it a drinkable consistency. I would think that not excluding the fiber (most of what a juicer leaves behind) that it might be a bit healthier. I'm not starting a fast at this point because I am supposed to be back out on that project starting tomorrow. I'm just experimenting for the day.

I made mine out of banana, apple, orange, carrots, broccoli, red cabbage, and cabbage.

Good luck with your fast!

Great job Justina! I am sure you will be successful. You have prepared yourself mentally and I think 99% of fasting is mental preparation. You will do this! I also had a gain this past week. Don't sweat it! You will be back down in no time :D

jen_renee - thanks!! :)

Quercus - I am glad you found the movie inspiring. i agree with you on this: " I don't think the initial low energy/feeling poorly will be that pronounced for people that have been on a calorie deficit." - I honestly don't have any of that!! I feel great!
The fiber IS good for you - this is a "fast" - basically it is not supposed to last forever. Hence excluding the fiber is not a big deal for a few days in my case - I am trying to make it to 5 days (at least 3, but no more than 5)
Your smoothie juice sounds good. What's your new project? more walkies?

Xenon - thanks! I agree, 99% of fasting is mental preparation!

JUICING - Day 2

I am feeling fantastic!! I am surprised. I thought I would be like those guys in the movie...in bed - not wanting to do anything..etc... & yet I am full of energy. :hurray:

Yesterday I had an additional juice & I loved it: apple, mint & lime!! It was divine! :drool5:

Today I have new juices on the menu:

Pre-breakfast: lemon water
Breakfast/Morning: celery, cucumber, kale & pear - 2 big glasses
Snack: water :p
Lunch/Afternoon: pineapple, cucumber, spinach, lemon, apples - 2 big glasses
Snack: water :biggrinjester:
Dinner/evening: beetroot, carrot, cucumber, celery, lemon, orange, ginger, beetroot leaves - 2 big glasses

I stepped on the scale - down 3 lbs from yesterday (down 4.5 lbs since Saturday - it was part sodium/water retention) I am preparing a plan to get back to normal food after the juicing - I have no intention of gaining back the weight I lost. So I will have to take it slowly. There is a plan on the website. I will look into it properly.

Great job, Justina! Stay strong and good luck in your weigh ins. It sounds like your body is really responding to your juice diet!

Hey girl, sorry I haven't been around! Internet problems. But holy heck you are rocking this juice fast!! I am actually feeling a little inspired to follow you and do I one myself as an attitude readjustment lol. So happy to hear that it is working for you. I've never thought of adding pepper to my juices!! That is so intriguing :) you are at least giving me lots of juice-spiration haha!

Hope you have an awesome week!

Well done with the "juicing"--I don't think I could do it! Sounds like you're feeling great though so stick with it!! xxxxx
