Hey Justina, I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling emotionally with the weight loss. I'm not going to profess to know what's right or wrong with various methods; I'm way too new at this stuff to have any real ideas. That said, I like what Mystic has said. I think the body is a very strange and sometimes confusing machine to stay ahead of when it comes to weight loss.
Drop calories in and raise calories burned
should give an apparently positive result... but it doesn't always.
If I lower my calories too much (I did that a few months ago) my body rebels at the scale. For me it also depends on where my calories come from... 1500 calories from basket of food #1 gives one result, from basket #2 another result. I have started to understand what works well for me, but it may not work for everyone.
In my case, filling my belly with lots of lean protein may be healthy, but I don't lose weight as quickly. For me, I like about 40-50% greens, 20-30% protein, 5-10% fruits, 5-10% whole grains, and the rest is dairy. That can vary from day to day, but this is the baseline I tend to follow. I don't measure. Things just works out this way. I also listen to my body... when I'm in need of something, I tend to get cravings for it. Maybe not cravings, but I tend to lean towards them when looking up recipes or at menus. Do you ever get that? Like one day you just really want a salad or a steak? Or at the grocery store, the bunch of collard greens looks irresistible?
The other aspect for me is
what will I be doing with these calories? Today, I knew I was mowing the lawns and doing more cardio tonight... so I ate a big, protein heavy breakfast and even had a pita (breads are normally off my list). On a lighter activity day, I adjust to greener and lighter meals.
Anyway, sorry to preach. I know you know yourself really well. You'll find the balance and get the results you seek. Keep your body guessing, Justina.
