Justina: Back to square one - very excited & determined to do this right

Wow Justina - you are doing fab! You can brag all the way cause you are doing great in the exercise department. I wish I can get that motivation. I stare at my treadmill and think ok tomorrow and tomorrow just never comes. So well done on you!!

Oh yeah, that happens to me sometime...i think the reason why i lasted that long on the eliptical yesterday is because i was watching a programe on the screen in front of me. lol. i m usually not into tv at all. And out of all things it was the Food Network. Lol. It was a show i never watched before - so was curious how it ended.
My music on my ipod is getting boring - I should get some more workout songs.

Those are like potato pancakes. Like your husband, I'm not a very big fan of sweet potatoes, but it seems like it would be just as easy to make with other kinds of potatoes. Or you could replace the sweet potato with ground beef. :D

I like my temperatures in Kelvin: it's going to be 299 degrees today so I won't need a jacket.

Hey Justina - ya - the treadmill does go easier with "distraction".... I do have my treadmill in front of TV at home - I pick a fav. 1/2hr show -then when show is done , my 1/2hr session is done too - & the time does go faster if I'm watching something I like...
- for my summer-season - weather/outdoor walks - I have some podcasts on my iphone that I listen to - Fat2Fit, ...and gonna try & check out "dishing up nutrition" this spring ....

... & yup - -4c is PEANuts.... try -16c & blowing snow..... that's when I stay INSIde ....

cheers gal,
Maryann

Yes, sometimes I get distracted watching something on the treadmill and go over my time! I love doing that on the treadmill especially, cause even if you're not paying attention the treadmill forces you to continue at the same pace (unlike the elliptical which you might accidentally slow down on)

Yeah - they look like potato pancakes...hmmmm yum yum - my husband cannot stand sweet potatoes. it was kind of tricky making the food. I told him I am making sweet potato for my dinner. ha-ha. since i put spices in it - it tasted of garam masala/curry etc rather than sweet potato.
I m sure he would vote for beef too!!
No kidding, Kelvin? :willy_nilly: Physics class was such a long time ago...

Oh thanks Maryann for stopping by. Treadmill in front of tv sounds great. I used to have one when i lived with my parents. Now we don't have the space for it. Ipodcasts sounds great too for the outdoor exercise. I was thinking about doing the same - never got around to it. or a speaking book? (not sure how they are called)
-16c & snow. last time i experienced that cold - was in Austria...on skiing trip..gosh i miss skiing!!! And after a good day of skiing: fireplace, snuggled up with a book, having a hot chocolate...snow doesn't sound too bad if you don't have to get to places.

Hey Mystic - you are right - treadmill is defo better for that reason. i only walk on treadmill though - my body is not built for running :( Elliptical is more suitable for me...i quite happily spend an hour on it (recently that is - like a month ago i wouldnt have lasted 30 mins). I just make sure i burn a certain amount of calories. Because i m guilty at slowing down a bit :blush5: when watching a show.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I had a very active day. I happened to read an article this morning about the disadvantages of "sitting" for long periods of time. That really inspired me.
I barely sat down. I tidied the apartment too.
I had some trouble with my exercise DVD. The thing is, it's region 2 (Europe) & it doesn't work in the DVD player here. Ugh. So i have to use my laptop. But my laptop decided not to recognize the CD drive. How annoying is that? I had to play around with it forever. Nothing worked. Somehow restarting my laptop did the trick..It started the DVD. This was not the first time it happened. I don't understand why. Anyway the main thing is that I could play my belly dancing fitness DVD & I could complete my daily exercise.

My food today:
B: Ezekiel bread + peanut butter (made from JUST peanut butter nothing else) + banana & herbal coffee
S: NOTHING (morning passed fast)
L: Red rice-feta salad - one of my favorite healthy meals
S: defrosted strawberries, blueberries & balckberries
D: Marinated anchovies!!!!!! You might call me a freak but i loved them - I actually had them on their own.. they are my fave dinner (out of my healthy-diet food items that is) Then i had some banana with walnuts as a dessert

WATER & HERBAL TEA (unsweetened)

Exercise: bellydancing (45 mins), body sculpting (15mins), stretching (5 mins)

PS/ I will read your diaries tomorrow - so tired now
:grouphug:

Anchovies.....ewwwww.. I can't bring myself to even touch them, much less eat them. haha! I'm glad you like them though! lol! Glad you got your dvd figured out! :)

Thanks Tasha!

Jen-Renee - I know..you have to acquire a taste for them. I can't say I have always been a fan - in Spain it's a popular "tapa" & you have it with fresh white bread...lol. It's probably as popular as a burger here.

I am a bit like a zombie today (beware) I didn't sleep well last night - was up from 4 am to 5am & i had to take a painkiller....i try to avoid painkillers as much as possible - but i just wanted to go back to sleep so badly.
Then I was going to go for a walk - but it is still cold (without a winter coat that is - I don't have mine here & dont want to invest in a new one - just bring it back next time when i m home - or even better buy a new one is a smaller size! :D )

Food today:
B: Ezekiel toast & strawberry jam - herbal coffee
S: Banana & raw cacao nibs
L: Mixed bean goulash with toast
S: Orange & apple with some walnuts
D: Greek salad

Exercise: no idea - see how I feel - I really wanna make it to the gym. I will update later.

I might have a nap this afternoon.

Hey Justina & Luz - juicing sounds like a great way to get veggies in... is there a brand/type of juicer that you like/works well?...
( I am trying to do salads...but the dressing adds cals- a juice with veg+fruit & the pulp still in ...sounds good )...

Great diary, Justina.... and keep up the effort you've been putting in. I wish I was diligent about exercising as you.
By the way, your food choices are (almost) all right up my alley. I like the grains, herbs and seasonings you use. I happen to LOVE sardines, too.

I miss naps! My wife hates the raw cacao nibs despite loving chocolate. I think they are yummy!

Cacao nibs are great with banana - they taste like chocolate (with the sugar from banana)

Hey Maryann - I sent you a pm. It is a great way to add fruit, but mainly veg to your diet.

Thanks Don for stopping by. Sardines are great :) It took me some time (a few years) to get to where I am now with my food choices.

Hope you can get some more sleep and feel better!

Hey Mystic - I am feeling much better! Thanks! :)

SCALE DAY - I lost 2.5 lbs this week - which is not bad - could be better though...I will do my best to make it closer to 4 lbs next week - otherwise I am not on target (mini goal weight: 230 lbs by May - now i am 263.5)
I will step up the exercise too. :smash:

We did the weekly grocery shopping - I love grocery shopping!!! Now we mostly spend our time in vegetable/fruit aisles - it's actually quite refreshing. I am trying to do as many meals as possible from scratch. For example hummus (so easy to make, takes about 10 mins & keeps up to 6 days in the fridge - great for dipping vegetables)
Anyway I always - especially during this 10 week challenge - put together the menu for the next week. This is good for many reasons:
- I actually stick to what's on the menu
- I get a good variety of food
- it's cheaper - there is no food wasted ever

Today's food:
B: Ezekiel toast & strawberry jam & herbal coffee
L: Jacket potato with tuna & salad
S: Bluberries & banana & pecan nuts
D: Fresh Vegetable juicing - Carrot, apple, beet root, spinach, cucumber, celery, ginger, lemon, orange
WATER!!

Exercise - youtube....i don't have the car today & my exercise DVD is not working anymore - need to order a new one/ get some from the library.

------------------

Here is the menu for the week - if anyone interested:

Friday

D: Juicing

Hi Justina,

I started to read your post what caught my interest was your mention of spain I am working a group project in class about the Universal Healthcare System of Spain . Since I actually have never been there it will definitely be a learning curve for me. It sounds like you definitely have the right mind set to be successful I wish you the best in your weight loss plan.

Hey Justina - congrat's on 2.5lbs down ! ....down is down !!
View attachment 19765
and thx for juicer info- I agree - homemade veggie/fruit blend is a great way to get in those veggies & fill-up - the low-cal way ! thankyou

& I LUV sardines... I like the tinned ones...but usuallly buy packed in oil ...but I think they are still pretty decent protein source...

cheers gal- keep up the great loss...U are cruising - ... 4lbs. in one week might be pretty tuff- that's like biggest-loser level of loss.... but wishin' you the best....

Maryann

Be VERY happy with 2.5 pounds lost! Safest weigh to lose weight is 1-2 pounds a week, and when you lose it fast you end up with more loose skin and you lose more muscle. Slow and steady wins the race!

Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I lived in Spain for about 3 years. I was happy with the healthcare there!

2.5 lb is a good solid loss, don't be to disappointed with it.

Thanks! I totally agree with you.

Thanks Maryann!
Juicer - yeah - i love it - it's perfect because sometimes I just don't feel like salad at all. & it does fill you up.
Sardines. I love sardines in oil ( i have a cool recipe for that - but my husband can't stand them - so I havent had it for a while) & I love them marinated in vinegar too!!

Hey Mystic, I actually totally agree with you. I think I ll be happy to go with 2.5 a week, maybe 3 :) - just got excited after the first week!
Thanks for the support!

--------------------------------------------------------------

I had a very cool Saturday - increasing the "cool" levels in my current situation is actually not that hard.
But anyhow - we went out to a museum today - loads of walking!!! & we went to the store bed, bath & beyond - loads of walking! The later was more of a window shopping for us..At the moment we live in a tiny apartment in a location neither of us enjoy. So we are planning on a future away from here.
It was nice visualizing our new home: "I'd like this and this in the kitchen" & "I'd love that duvet cover" etc..Well, we'll get there eventually.

So yeah, today's exercise is walking. I'd say probably about 2 hours!

Food.Oh i love food.Here is today's menu.

B: Ezekiel toast & strawberry jam & herbal coffee
S: I was not hungry (hell, i wasn't even hungry for lunch)
L: Pil-pil prawns & spaghetti - I loved this one - inspired by my life in Spain - i was going to make this later this week - but i figured I d rather not keep fresh seafood long in the fridge.
S: I baked a one-person flax-meal (chocolate) cake (in a ramekin) - it was tiny- I ate 1/4 of it- my husband finished the rest.

D: Vegetable juice (carrot, cucumber, celery, ginger, apples, orange, lemon, spinach, beetroot)

For a while I had no idea what you meant by Ezekiel Bread/Toast until I saw it in the Sprouts the other day. Is the stuff pretty good?
