Juliette cross-training for Romèo

Caught some swans on a photo yesterday evening on my walk. Just a nice evening stroll to make life a bit easier to the muscles in my legs&feet.
Today some shopping with my best friend, getting to know my new gym (no training, just going there to see the place). Maybe some nordic walking or running, don't know yet. Beautiful weather, so something outside anyway. Have a great Saturday everywhere!

You take the most beautiful pics Juliette. What a lovely area you live in. How far are you from the city center? I was reading your first page and I must say 2 months of clouds and rain sounds really hard. The new gym membership does sound like a great deal, let us know how you like it.

Hi Blancita!
It's not normally two months of clouds and rain, but 4-5 months of snow and below zero temperatures... But this winter we only had one good winter month, the others were quite warm and rainy. But next year is sure to be cold with a lot of snow. :santa:
I live 20 minutes by metro from the city center, so about 16 kilometers nice bicycling, mostly on the seaside, I do it when the weather's good. :)
Haven't had the time to give my bike the tlc it needs yet, maybe next week I could start the season. I never use my bike in the winter, I'm too emotionally attached to my limbs to break them intentionally.
Went for a run today, felt horrible for a change, but it's done now. If I feel like it, I run on Wednesday evening, but if I don't feel like it then, I'll do my next run only AFTER the 25 mile walk. I don't want to risk my muscles quitting on me at 12 miles or something...
Now I'm going to have a relaxing evening. I'll call my friend, watch some tv...

Hello Juliette, YEAH for joining the gym, that's a great way to motivate you! but it seems you don't need to much of that since your walking and doing your excercise pretty well on your own. I think your area is gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing the great pics. I also loved the idea of your dream. YEAH! nothing like good dreaming!! :rotflmao: Well, I hope your weekend is a great one. Take Care and have fun with your friends!

Your life in Scandinavia sounds so idyllic! Or maybe it's the way you describe it... Santa must just love visiting you, seeing as it must closely resemble Lapland :)

I've been meaning to ask - do you hate IKEA as much as other Scandinavians (actually Swedish) seem to? Everyone in the UK seems to be crazy about IKEA stuff, including me (clean design lines and some homely and cheap stuff that I just loooovvvee) but all my Swedish friends can't bear the place. They think the English are suckers, which I find really funny..

Good one with your run - and really beautiful pics... No wonder Santa loves it there.. :)

I can't wait to meet my trainer (for the next three months) on next Thursday. She'll be making me a new routine and also I'm going to do this stationary bike thing where they measure my oxygen expenditure plus other stuff. And after that we'll know in how bad a condition I really am. :p
New gym, new trainer and three months of dedication ahead. I have to take it slow before Saturday though, don't want to risk the 25 mile walk. But after that I'm going to see what I'm made of.
About IKEA... I don't hate it, I shop there occasionally just because they have some nice practical things at a nice practical price. There are a couple of things I don't like though.. They make "cheap" versions of real design furniture, and don't bother to cover up the plagiarism. Their furniture (that you have to assemble yourself) often lacks some parts, so in order to make it work you'd better have some nails, screws and wood pins handy. And some of there textiles are said to come from India where it's been manufactured without proper safety regulations concerning the people making it (handling acids&dyes without proper protective clothing etc.). So this makes me think twice sometimes about if I can afford to buy the real thing at the real price or if I want to go cheap.
And of course there is this brotherly competition going on between the Swedes and the Finns, which makes it even more difficult.. ;)

ooo a new trainer , wow VO2MAX training! :D

I need somebody to push me like that - thats why i bought a gps computer (easier to schedule times with hehe).

As for the pics ... man im looking at the rain forcast for the next week and wishing it was summer :/

The new gym sounds very high tech! How many free sessions are they giving you with the trainer? My gym gives one, and there was one I had joined years ago that gave 3 free sessions. That really got me on the road to weightlifting (back in 1993). Do you lift or just do cardio?

I think I'm basically going to meet with the trainer about once a month and I whenever I have something to ask, I can contact her. I like this, since I love to work on my own, as long as I know what I'm doing first.
Lately I have concentrated on cardio, so I'm going to take three months with more lifting now, 3-4 times a week, and maybe a bit less cardio. I've been doing these ridiculous amounts of walking/nordic-walkin/running mainly because of the 25 mile walk, and cutting a bit back might come naturally after that. ;)
I just hope this walk will give my weight the final kick in the ass, because seeing the same numbers eternally has started to annoy me. To put this mildly, I think I would be the one still alive after the 7 year famine...
Juliette

Morning Juliette!! You will not be around for the 7 yr famine. HAHAHAHAH with all the walking your doing, DANG give your body a little more time and those pounds are going to be dropping off big time!! Plus with the New gym and a trainer giving you pointers, You'll be speeding off the scales, just stay with it and don't give into bad days, remember we all have those. And go to the gym as often as you can, take advantage of that time. I know you will do very well, and I'm so excited for you!! Have fun and enjoy!
Kim

Oh thanks, Kim!
I think I'll actually print out your post and put it on my fridge. Lesson in patience, consistency and encouragement in a few sentences. I don't know where you get it from, but you sure can make me feel better with your posts and your attitude! :D
Julie

Juliette, I don't know where it comes from, I just say how I feel and to be honest with you I'm a really good listener!! All my friends come to me for a good ear! I'm happy if I can help someone get through the day!! Thanks for those words!! :)

Have a great day Juliette...I want to read your diary once my company leaves tomorrow...but for now, have a wonderful Sunday.

Hi Juliette
I've finally got around to reading some of your thread. Feel like I know you better now. :) well done for being so motivated and upbeat, its really encouraging. Oh and the photos are great, I didn't realise Helsinki was such a beautiful place. I'm in awe at the amount of walking you do, it puts me to shame with my 10 minutes struggling on a treadmill! Enjoy your Sunday evening!

Hello Mona!
The 10 minutes on the treadmill turn to 1.5 hours on the road if you just keep on doing it! :)

Now I'm off to work, two days left of this season. At least it seems so now, you never know about the life of a free lancer though..
I'll be back some time tomorrow evening! Have a great start for the week, all of you! :D
Julie

I was gone what, 36 hours, and WLF has become another 476326 pages more informative. What was it? An annual Write Faster Than You Can Read Monday?
I tried, but there's absolutely no way I can read up on all of your diaries. Mal's alone had 5 new pages.. So I'm just gonna catch up later.
I'm now officially on summer holiday. This is going to be my longest holiday for about 20 years. My next work day is August 15th. Of course, being a free lancer means work always comes my way when least expected, like tomorrow. The last few weeks were absolutely horrible so I haven't quite realized yet that I actually am free. It'll come. It will.
In the meantime I have a great opportunity to get started at my new gym, clean my house, plant the rest of the things on my balcony, walk 25 miles, spend a day with my mom (art galleries), my friend (lunch&shopping), one of my students (planning next year) etc. etc.
Remind me again what holiday is supposed to be about?
Juliette

oh girl that sounds soooooooo good...that is one long holiday. enjoy every minute of it. my holidays start in the beginning of august so i have to wait until then.
will you be traveling somewhere?

Well I haven't planned anything. My usual travelling companions have other things this year (parents 60th birthday, whole family travelling etc.). But since I was travelling most of last summer, I'm not too sad about it. On the other hand, you never know, I might just get new ideas when I've been home for a month. ;)
The idea of holiday hasn't quite sunk in yet. Today I'm going to run some chores. You know, the one's you always put off until your holiday.. "I'll do it then, I have time then.." And then the beginning of the holiday ends up being more busy than working. I'll survive. I think. :D
