Journey to a better ME!

Hey everyone,

Some of you may remember me. I've been gone for awhile but am back and am truly dedicated to making a better me. I'm not going to get into too much in this first post. I had a good post written and of course it was lost and now I don't have enough time to rewrite everything I want to say.

I'm changing my eating and have begun exercising between 3-5 days a week. I will be taking the weekends off. I was diagnosed with insulin resistance and that has prompted me to really dedicate myself to a new me.

My starting weight is 150.5 lbs and my ultimate goal is 135lbs.

My job has changed and my husband and I recently bought a house. I'll go into all the good details later, but for now I've got to go!

Updates coming soon!

Hello, welcome back to the forum!
It sounds like you have a good plan, good luck with the weight loss! :)

Thanks Justina!

I wasn't planning on going to the gym today, but some stressful things came up and I decided to skip my math class and go for a swim. Definitely the right choice. I feel a lot better and though all those stressful things are still present, I feel a little more apt to handle them. Got a great swim in and spent some time in the whirlpool. Always a treat!

I had an oats and honey bar for breakfast, a fettuchini meal for lunch (didn't realize the cal count until afterwards. Can you say wow! No wonder it's so yummy!), a key lime carbmaster yogurt for snack. Not sure what dinner will be at work, but where I work we are served proper portioned healthy meals so I'm never worried about eating too much at dinner. I'll be taking celery and peanut butter to work for my snack. Yum! Then of course my usual sugar free chocolate pudding pack after I get off work.

Tomorrow is a true gym day. It will be leg day as well as some cardio. Can't wait to punch that out!

I'm not sure yet when I will weigh myself each week, but I'm sure I'll get that figured out soon.

Hope everyone is doing well!

@Munch ~ Awesome job on taking a swim even though you didn't plan to work-out! I wish I had a pool nearby (and it wasn't so cold) so I could swim for exercise!

Sounds like your diet is good! Was your pasta whole grain? My favorite snack is either apples or celery with crunchy pb! Yum!!!

I am also following a good plan, a little bit more intense than your own (work-out twice a day plus 1200-1500diet) but I'd like to keep up with you along our journeys for support and motivation :)

Hey Bliss!

Thanks for the encouragement. Always nice to have. No, the pasta wasn't whole grain, and actually was probably terrible for me. It was a microwaveable. :/ But so good! I've got some celery and pb I'm taking as a snack to work tonight! Yum!

My diet is a lot better than it was the last time I was on here. Before I was eating a lot of junk but just counting calories. Now I'm not really counting calories per say.. I'm watching them, but just trying to eat healthier foods and better portions.

I went to the gym today and worked out my legs on some of the machines, rode the bike for 5 minutes, and then swam for probably 20 minutes. Tomorrow I'll get in a great workout because I won't really have a time limit since I'll have the day off.

Wow, two workouts a day? Do you go to a gym or just do them at home? I'm thinking about doing a workout video at home as well on the days I have time. I'm going to stop by your journal if I can find it and follow your journey!! :)

Today for breakfast I had an oats and honey bar, lunch was a chicken pot pie (High calorie, but was pretty good and I had veggies in it!!), snack was yogurt, dinner will be healthy and I will stick to my portions! (Yesterday I had a really bad food day and ate two portions of the salad wrap), celery and pb for snack and sugar free pudding for late snack.

Hey Munch!
I encourage you to continue to track your calories daily. I use myFitnessPal app and it is really easy to use! It is really helpful at the end of each day to see how many calories you took in vs how many you burned. As for the pasta (which I love pasta!!) I have found a GREAT frozen dish for lunches by Kashi called Pesto Primevera. If you like pesto, it is so delish and packed with protein and whole grains only 290 cals.
Sounds like you did have a decent work-out today! Being time restricted is difficult! Just push that much harder tomorrow! :)

I haven't started a journal yet, not sure how to do that! But yes, basically my day is like this:
Wake-up 545-6am and do Insanity DVD for 45mins
Get to work around 745-8a.m.
Take lunch around 12-1p.m. during that time I take a 20-30 min walk.
Leave work around 5:30 and go to gym for about 1.5 hours.

By the time I get home I try to make a quick meal and be in bed before 11 to get a decent rest!

Sundays (off day) I am going to either ride my bike, do hot yoga, or lots of stretching videos to recover.

It is A LOT, and it will be tough, but I am committed :)

I'll add you so you can see my progress pics! I just added one today that I can barely recognize myself! 30lbs to go!

Oh and by the way... I did my first real day of insanity today, yesterday was the fit test. I am so out of shape! I give myself a 5/10 for effort. It is SO hard, but I pushed through it (sometimes jogged in place cause I couldn't do what they were doing). I am excited for the next few weeks for it to be easier for me, it is going to be tough!

I have heard about Insanity and I pretty much gather that that is the perfect name for it!

Made it to the gym as planned. Did some back and core work and swam. Not sure how many laps, but today was a really good swim. I didn't have to fiddle with my goggles so was able to just keeps swimming.

A banana for breakfast and an oats and honey bar. Bacon sand which, kettle chips, and cherry yogurt.

I think it may be a good idea to really start tracking my cals again like you said. It just feels like I chore to me I guess, but probably what I need to do to reach my goals.

Hehe you made me think of finding Nemo "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!" Great job! I sucked again at Insanity but I am very excited for the gym tonight (i skipped last night to stretch my sore back). I like going to the gym because I don't feel nearly as out of shape as when I do insanity!

Tracking your calories is good.. At least for the first month or two... Just to get you in the groove of eating better. Honestly, when I have to enter in that I ate a big/bad meal it really helps the next time I think of cheating!

Hope you have a good evening!

Hey Munch,
Glad I found you! Getting diagnosed with insulin resistance...ouch! Gotta tell you when I see what you posted that you are eating, I fear that you are not making the best choices even now...low cal maybe, but high carb processed foods...not normally a good combo for insulin. I would like to recommend a podcast called dishing up nutrition (it's in Itunes). It's a good podcast with alot of good nutritional information and they talk alot about blood sugar and how different foods can really have in impact on overall nutrition, health and wellness and of course weightloss. I've found it really good and motivational and educational while on one of the machines in the fitness center. You might like try one and see. ..it's free and it only lasts about 45 min per episode.
I'm also on myfitnesspal.com entering my daily food...I've found it a good way to watch the macro nutrients of carbs, fat and sugar in addition to the overall calories. I don't normally enter in the exercise to increase my "calories allowed" but it does have a really good database of foods so it's not such a pain to track it. I'm also scbibhouse on there, so look me up if you join and "friend me".
Good to see you back and excited to see you and hubby now have a house...and you're obviously in school again because you're stressing out about a math class! Good for you!
I'm still chugging along...coming up on 2 years (in June) on this journey...I've changed my lifestyle and I think my body is slowly but surely settling out...it's not at "goal weight", and the losses are really slow, but I'm really getting in good shape...feeling ribs and seeing my butt muscles...I can't tell you how long it's been since I've been able to do that...come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen butt muscles!
So good to get caught back up!
Good choices to you my dear!

Sarah

Yeah, I'm trying to work on that Scbibhouse. I can't quit all the things cold turkey, I'd just fail. I've tried it before and I'm no good at it. So I'm starting to add it things as I go along.

I weighed myself yesterday and didn't lose any weight this week, still at 150.5. However, I didn't gain anything either, which is good.

I didn't make it to the gym today, but it will be on the list of many things to do tomorrow.

I feel like I ate very well today. Controlled my portions and my plate at dinner was 3/4 full of veggies, had a small piece of chicken breast and a yogurt. Very good for me.

Looking forward to this next week and seeing what I can do.

Good for you for making slow changes. You're right, it can't all be a sudden change- that kind of change never lasts. Keep it up!

Thanks Amy!

After a very crazy week and only two trips to the gym, I'll be getting back on the saddle tomorrow. Finally back to my routine of going at least tuesday, thursday, and friday.

My eating has been so, so. I'm really good about eating my fruits and try to get in veggies when I can. (I only like a few of them.. I know, I'm a picky eater.) Dinner has been good at work. I'm a work in progress as always.

Ugh, just binge ate half a box of wheat thins.... I don't know what it is about those that makes me unable to stop eating them... I will buy them no more!

Still working on my diet changes. It's a battle every day.

Went to the gym yesterday and worked arms and swam 20 laps. Went today and worked back and abs and swam 30 laps.

Tonight is another meal and one I can do better at!

Welcome back to the forum, Munch! I'm just getting back into the swing of things myself. I love reading journals of people with similar goals as me... I'm 153 lbs right now with a goal of 135. Doesn't sound like much initially but it sure is tough, isn't it??? Don't worry too much about the Wheat Thins. Mistakes happen, we just have to learn from them! I don't keep Cheez-Its in my house because those get wiped out pretty easily, too! If I really want them I buy one of those really small boxes they sell at the drugstores. There's only so much damage you can do there :)

Good luck!!

Very true Laura!

I know I've been absent the last few weeks.

I'm rededicating myself as of today. I'm starting to count calories once more! I really think this will get me going in the right direction as this is how I lost weight when I first joined this forum. I've also started taking a green coffee bean supplement 30 minutes prior to every meal. I've already noticed a difference that it helps me to be satisfied with correct portion sizes and not longing for a second helping of something.

I didn't make it to the gym today as I had math class and need to run to the store for some things. Monday isn't a required day for me, that will be tomorrow. When I wake up in the morning, the gym will be my destination.
just
Between lunch and my snack I've taken in 450 calories today. The hard part I will have will be dinner at work. They are healthy meals, but I have no idea what their calorie content is. I have a feeling they're rather low, but may ask today when I see the cooks. I may just have to estimate (higher of course) and see how things go. I don't think I it should be a problem, especially since I don't normally eat everything served as it is.

Hey Munch, good to see you back! For your insulin resistance, I would not recommend dropping everything, as you said, sure recipe for failure! One thing I heard recently was to eat in. 3's...1 animal protein (meat, fish, eggs, cottage cheese) 1 healthy fat (olives, nuts, real butter), and 1 low carbohydrate (non starchy veggies, and low carb fruits). I am not always able to do this, but I do notice a difference in energy level when I do. The healthy fat is key to stabilizing the spike in blood sugar when the carbs hit our system, so even though some are high in calories, they are essential for those of us who tend to be addicted to carbs! (Notice I include myself in that!).
Have a great day, and you'll feel better about yourself when you exercise! I'm getting ready to go for a short, easy run now!
Good choices to you Munch!

Sarah

Very interesting scbibhouse, thanks!

Still working on my foods. I'm definitely incorporating more healthy stuff in as much as possible. I try to make it a point to try something new every week. I find that while I like a lot more things than I used to, I'm still very picky. I'm doing my best!!

Yesterday was a good day. Not sure exact calorie range, but I believe it was around 1500. I never know the calorie amount of my dinner at work, but as I said, it's always healthy and I usually don't eat all of it. I'll probably estimate it around 500 calories each day, unless I feel it may be more or less and then I'll tweak it.

I usually have no problem at work (besides avoiding any extra foods or sweets that people bring in.) What I'm watching the most is what I consume when I am home. If I can get that under control, I'll be good. We have transitioned to not buying cookies, candies, ice cream, crackers(wheat thins especially, my downfall.) and it has really helped me. We keep some granola/high fiber bars around for when I get my sweet tooth and they take care of it right away.

I'm off to the gym now!

OMG Cheez-Its will get annihilated around me :p lol can't remeber the last time I had one... which is good. So easy to just plow through a whole box feels like nothing

Welcome back munch!

I can't help thinking your lucky to have only 15 pounds to your goal weight, but as I know first hand the last 10-15 pounds tend to be the trickiest to lose!

Good luck on your journey and keep up the good work :)
