Journey, Not A Destination

I'm not so sure that's a normal response to Nitrous Oxide. I thought it was a contact anaesthetic. They must have given him something else with the N2O.

Good morning Steve! Hope your training is going well! Wanted to stop in and say hello and not be such a stranger. :)

Hiya Beth, thanks.

Training is going very well.

Today will be lower body strength followed by 40-60 minutes of unweighted steady cardio and some high rep strength work for quads.

ollowed by 40-60 minutes of unweighted steady cardio

Oooh steve's gonna don some leg warmers and feel the burn in an aerobics class... :D

He's gonna look so cute in that neon colored thong style leotard :D

(yes, I am aware my mind is a truly scary place... :D

I'm quite the opposite. Everyone has their 80 dollar bunny gear on and I'm wearing hiking pants and boots.

sigh...

okay.

it's hiking boots, high socks, briefs and and a cowboy hat.

the class is call "butts & guts"

So yesterday's training was really cold and snowy, so that's good.

It was a circuit that looked something like:

5 weighted hills (60lb)

40 bw lunges

rest 2 mint

4 weighted hill

1 unweighted hill sprint

40 bw lunges

rest 2 min

4 weighted hills

2 hill sprints

40 bw lunges

Done.

anddd I'm worn out just reading that, HAHA.

Good morning steve :) Have a wonderful Friday!! I just read what you posted about that excercise not being for everyone in Vals diary...I responded over there. I should just stick to what you told me to do and come back to you when I feel like its getting easy, lol, sorry ;)

oh, AND I lost weight?? I am now 134.2...I was fully prepared to gain weight while doing some strength and no cardio. Ideas??

Ya, it's pretty brutal, lol.

Thanks, and you do the same. :)

No need for an apology, but ya, that's what I suggest. When I write someone programs here on the forum, they're not blanket recommendations for all to follow. They're tailored to the individual I'm writing them for.

Who knows. But I wouldn't sweat it at all.

Holy crap is my journal abused. I've been neglecting this poor thing. Nothing terribly exciting to report. I've been very busy and feeling under the weather, so with that coupled with my forum, I've slowed my updates here.

Training is not as good as I'd like considering I'm a little more than a week away from our hike.

Still doing a ton of hill work but lifting has been very haphazard.

Steve, I think you'll do just fine considering you're in better shape than 99% of the population even when you think you're not in shape :D

Did that make any sense at all? :p

I thought I was in good shape last year. I have a theory that my quads are predominantly fast twitch muscle fibers. I'm the fastest guy I know, no bragging, and regardless of how I train, my quads fatigue extremely quickly.

Indeed, im the opposite. Im not fast at all, but boy i can go for hours and hours and hours and hours and not feel any pain.
For some time i believed there was something wrong with me because various personal trainers asked about 'feeling the burn' and also fellow cyclists.
and honestly till this day, never ever ever felt any burn. I have had cramps, and general tiredness but no burn.
Its making me seriously want to challenge myself more and do more endurance things like run or cycle the length of the country or something major.

Hey everyone...

Today has been a good day so far. I woke up early and spent a good bit of time deciding how I want to pack my hiking pack. It's harder than it sounds. Trips like this require a ton of gear and fitting it comfortably and conveniently can be quite the challenge.

I think I have things worked out for the most part in that regard.

My body has been feeling pretty banged up, most likely from the combination of a ton of training plus not feeling all that great.

I decided to bump off the intensity today and do volume. So with my pack all situated, I threw on my back and went for a 3 hour hike. It's so nice being able to hike for hours without having to drive anywhere. I just walked out my door and kept walking and walking.

I followed a trail I haven't been on yet that involved a lot of hills. It was a very nice trail. I was hoping to follow it further but much to my surprise the trail crosses a stream. Problem is there's no bridge to cross. I almost crossed it without a bridge but I didn't want wet feet to lead to blisters which could screw me come next week.

All in all I felt pretty good. I think I'm going to do a ton of restorative stuff this weekend; flexibility/mobility, baths, massage, etc.

The clock is ticking down now and I'm getting really excited.

Happy Vday for those of you who celebrate it.

I don't.
