Journey, Not A Destination

Holy shit man, those are amazing numbers. I may have to go roid up just to try to compete!

Thanks man. Don't be fooled..... I've always been freaky strong in the bench press relative to body weight. It makes no sense at all considering I have very long arms. But I'm not complaining.

Do you ever max out?

Now I have this vision of how Steve changes a tire...

Yes, i have a rich fantasy life..

No need for jacks in Steve-land...

I lifts up the car with one hand and removes the lug nuts - possibly twirling the car around instead of the more simple approach of just twisting off the nuts.. because the car twirls are more dramatic...

he then single handedly swaps out the tire and replaces the lug nuts... and gently places the car back on the ground and drives off...

:)

Just drive carefully and watch the other morons on the road who don't know what to do in snow...

Hahahaha, don't I wish it was that easy!

That's another thing that made my blood boil. My jeep is lifted with big tires, so my jack won't work for it. So now I have to go way out of my way just to change a stupid tire. And I don't have a spare for it b/c I wasn't about to buy a 300 dollar spare tire!

I don't know really. I just don't see how else it would have deflated so quickly without picking up a nail or something. And there are a lot of hoodlums in my neighborhood.

Nowadays, I don't have someone that I'd trust to spot me for it, so that is sad, and back in my heyday, I always had random competitions spread throughout the week, so maxing was never really an option. I did, however, do a 225 as many times as possible set, and I hit 34 or 37 (what is 3 reps between friends?).

I'm going to have to go back tomorrow, and see how many I can get. It's chest day, and I think that'd be a nice break from the usual.

That sucks.

Honestly.... ALL of my training is based off my 1RM.

I'll build up my strength using volume-based approaches like 5x5 for the core lifts and 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps for the secondary lifts. I'll do this volume approach for 4-8 weeks. Once I start burning out, I reduce volume. Sometimes I notch it down incrementally, or sometimes I go right into rep max testing. Then, at the start of a new cycle, I'll start at a % of my new 1 RM. It's just a great tool to gauge progress.

At the end of the day, if you aren't adding weight to the bar, you aren't growing.

Wow, that's impressive. I've always wanted to try it but never had a reason. I know the football team in college always tested that. Based on experience though.... my muscular endurance is pretty shitty. I'm genetically hard-wired to be explosive and fast..... anything that involves continuous movement I just suck at.

Went into Dick's Sporting Goods today and saw they are now selling foam rollers. It's good to see when useful stuff hits the shelves instead of the usual gimmicky crap.

It was when I was boxing as well as my primary sport. so... many...pushups...

Thanks Kimberly!

I'm still happy about that. :)

And you should be. :)

Are you talking about a regular bench press using a barbell?

Yes.

instead of the more simple approach of just twisting off the nuts

That sounds painful. Sorry about your flat. If it is just someone letting the air out of your tire, can't you just put more air in it? Also, if it is a nail in the tire or something, you can usually get it repaired very cheaply. This happened to me a few months ago. It only cost me about $20 to have it fixed.

In that case, the first workout I'd start with simply the bar and do 3 sets of 12 or so. Assuming this feels pretty light to you, it will be a good neuromuscular rehearsal.... sort of teaching your body the right movement from the get go.

The next workout I'd add 5-10 lbs each set until it starts to feel hard and/or your form gets on the verge of sloppy.

Now you've found your starting weight for the third workout.

If it truly was someone simply letting the air out, then ya.... I can just fill it back up. I haven't had time to check it yet as it was dark when I found it this morning and it was dark when I came home.

I'm hoping that if it is punctured I can simply get it repaired.

Take the tire off, put some air into it, get a bucket of soapy water, and pour it over the tire. If there is a hole somewhere in it, there will be bubbles.

Also, be sure to check the sidewall, and not just the treads. I made that mistake once, and just couldn't figure out why my tire kept deflating after I'd fill it, 'cause I couldn't find a single hole.

I was thinking of doing this, thanks. I am going to mess with it when I get home today.

Can you freaking believe that I walk out to it this morning and ANOTHER tire is deflated!?

I either hit a very sharp, large object with the front and back tires, which is hard for me to believe.

Or, someone is fucking with me.

It I find it's the latter, Steve be spending the night sitting in the jeep with a bat.

Poor Steve! That is absofuckinglutely ridiculous! :cuss:

I've been strength training regularly since I decided to completely go down to 70% effort with weights, and I was like, "I'm going to keep it light". But then I, without even thinking, started to progressively add weight  Meat head!!!

Hey Steve, your jeep must have some pretty big "meats" on it to cost $300 a tire!! But the Z tires run a pretty penny, too.... (we own a jeep and a Z also....)

If you have Discount Tire in PA, they do tire repairs for FREE! ( you do not have had to have bought your tires there) Of course you are screwed if the hole is in the sidewall...*sigh* Hope you figure it out and it's a cheap fix....

I don't know if I will ever doubt you again...

Just bought myself a foam roller. I feel so good I'm worried I'm going to ninja-hump people on the way out to my car.

I wouldn't keep it light long.

You need to cycle the intensity from low to high, keep pushing high until you either can't or your body 'tells' you not to, then bump back down.

And you ARE a meathead. The female version of James, you are.
