Journey, Not A Destination

Thanks, Steve. I notice he's included lunges in his basic program, which I don't do. However, he did say that they're somewhat redundant if you're doing squats, with the exception of really strengthening the hip flexors.

Is that why you didn't include them in my program.

Hey, I think I've really busted that plateau!

Have a great weekend!

Congrats on busting the plateau, I saw that in your journal. Hopefully it continues!!! Sometimes fat loss needs to pick up momentum, part of that whole non-linear thing. Crazy how it works.

Regarding the lunges, I did not include them merely b/c it is my opinion that muscle maintenance is established quite easily by a handful of exercises using the heavy weights. That's it. While I think lunges, or even better yet, bulgarian split squats, there is no need to complicate the routine at this stage of the game.

we just pay your journal visits - you're plenty hot so it stays hot while you're hre -and just warm when you're not :)

but we're happy to keep it company and on the first page :)

Hello there!

Question: what do you think of the theories behind Human Growth Hormone stimulated by exercise for increasing fat loss, especially for women? I just read an article on it....

Have a great weekend! It is FOGGY here again, GRRRRR:mad:

Steve,
Two more questions:
1) could you read my journal entry for today about plateaus and see if that makes sense to you?
2) What about Olympic lifts? It seems like more than any other exercise, they get at all the muscle groups with one exercise. Is it that they take so much training on form?

Let me see the article on it please, so I can better understand what you want to discuss.

It's not really a theory, there is a hormonal response to exercise, part of it being an increase in HGH. It is short lived though and really doesn't contain any magical effects unless you are taking extra HGH.

When it is released it binds itself to receptors on fat cells, among others, and stimulates them to break down triglyceride and suppresses the fat cells ability to uptake circulating lipids.

It is also very anabolic in terms of protein synthesis (muscle building).

I'll head over to your journal in a few.

Regarding Olympic lifts, they are great, you are right. However, they also take a toll on the body when done over prolong periods of time. A higher degree of risk is certainly associated with this exercises than others. So why do them when you are not training for a specific sport or in need of power?

I would rather build strength with "calmer" exercises that also facilitate the use of many muscles. It is more controlled, and yes, to an extent, the degree of difficulty of these exercises is to much for most average lifters.
