Journey, Not A Destination

Promise?

Anyway...
I finally realised why you're able to relate to those of us who have a lot to lose - despite starting from the skinny side of life ;)

It's taken you a long time to get to where you are. A lot of work, a lot of effort.

It's taken us a long time to get to where we are. A lot of work, a lot of effort.

I'm not talking about people with 20 vanity pounds to lose...but those of us who have had to lose a serious amount of weight.

There's no quick, 3 month fix for us. The same for you.

Steve, despite me coming in here daily and saying Hi Handsome, I want to say that I also really appreciate how hard you've worked to get to where you are - and I also appreciate how understanding you are for what we go through.

Your posts in the ontopic section have been great :)

So why do them when you are not training for a specific sport or in need of power?

I would rather build strength with "calmer" exercises that also facilitate the use of many muscles. It is more controlled, and yes, to an extent, the degree of difficulty of these exercises is to much for most average lifters.

I just wanted to let you know that the lifting that I've been doing per your recommendations have really improved my skills on the volleyball court. When I'm jumping and hitting I feel like I'm totally getting up there and SOOO on top of the ball. I have one of my teammates comment that my spikes are so much more stronger and wanted to know my secret. I told her, "A little bird named Steve..." :D

Regarding Olympic lifts, they are great, you are right. However, they also take a toll on the body when done over prolong periods of time. A higher degree of risk is certainly associated with this exercises than others. So why do them when you are not training for a specific sport or in need of power?

Thanks, Steve. That's what I figured. I guess at my age, it's the equivalent of wanting to drive around in a little red convertible and have all the girls look at you, LOL. I'll stick to my deads and squats.

And a hearty second to what m2m said this morning!

Glad to hear! A basic strength training routine goes a long way in translation to the play field.... or in your case, the court.

Things are OK.

Weight is on the rise again finally. I had dropped down to 196, but I am at a steady 199 now in the morning. At night, I am 203-205.

Morning, thanks for stopping by. Hey--what can I do about those last 5-10 lbs sticking to me with all they got? What's up with that?

I wouldn't worry about it until you plateau. Once you do, a cyclical approach may be in order. High low carb days for instance, something of that nature.
