I was actually a trainer for a few years. Loved the job, loved working with people, helping them realize their goals, the atmosphere.... everything really. But where I live, the money just isn't there.

I was recently offered the head training job at a very nice gym, but the commute has me concerned.... I doubt I will take it.

I left training a few years back for a better paying job. I have a degree in finance and another in economics. So I became a financial adviser. That evolved into becoming the manager of the firm. This means, I really don't answer to anyone. And the guy who owns the firm, who I guess you could say I answer to in a way, is a really good friend of mine. This allows me the freedom to spend time on the computer most week days, since much of the work I do is on the computer. Don't get me wrong, it is a very busy job.

Usually on the weekends, I am not around the computer much. But lately, I have been making an effort to stay in. I am really trying to reach some physique goals this year, and it will take a lot of consistency. This means, I can't be going on out the weekends drinking with my friends... because when I do, I don't adhere.

Besides, I am active on the web. I moderator at a forum, I help many people on here, not just in this forum. This is my passion, so I tend to gravitate toward it, if you know what I mean.

Enough rambling, LOL.

jeez steve, did you forget your professional demeanor?? lol

just kidding!!! financial services....ugh, been there done that, probably going back in a few months lol... :p

Steve I feel like I am going to GAIN weight with this. Is it because I'm just not used to eating so many calories and protein?

just thought I'd drop by yours

Thanks for stopping by. Took some nasty before photos of me in my gym gear today. It was not so easy to stand still for the rear shot. But its done and I can forget about it for now.

Hey Steve!

After you posted on my newbie thread I found this... I've read the whole thing start to finish :D You cartainly know your stuff!

Now I'm pondering what I've read...

Would I be accurate in assuming because of my weight a 'dramatic' reduction in my caloric intake would be a benificial to initially loosing weight? I don't count calories, but going by the 15 cals/lb I read here it looks as though I'm taking in nearly 4000 cals a day to maintain my current weight... Along with this I'd have to keep active to stop my muscle fading away?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Good Morning, Sunshine - Hope you had a nice restful readful weekend and you're last week before you go to play in Columbus is an awesome one...

Britta, you could actually gain some weight. It all depends on how long you have been "under-eating." If you have been under eating for quite a while, you have a depressed metabolism. By eating more, you will speed your metabolism back up, but weight gain is a potential side effect.

This is a battle many people have to learn to fight through. Too many individuals have lost weight through starvation dieting. When their weight loss plateaus, which is inevitable, the only thing left to do is repair the depressed metabolism.

How do you avoid this dilemma in the first place? Diet using "healthy" caloric deficits. Even this will lead to slowdowns in one's metabolism, but there are ways to "trick" your body into constant weight loss.

I have no idea where you, personally stand in terms of depression of metabolism. All I can tell you is this. Measure, measure, and then measure some more! Track your weight, track your measurements, and make sure things are going out of control. You are not signed into a contract with your calorie intake. You can and should modify your approach week to week.

Focus what lies in front of you instead of what lies behind you. What we think about most is what becomes our reality. ;)

Thanks for stopping by! :)

Hey Bren, sorry but I don't remember your thread. I reply to so many questions on here that I lose track!

The answer to your question is simple: It all depends. :D

The larger you are, the more room you have to deficit. Meaning, your body is capable of accepting larger deficits without the negative side effects such as a depression of metabolism. However, starvation type calorie intakes are still not the answer.

It depends on how you have been eating in the recent past, and how long you have been eating like that.

So I ask you, what has your food intake been like?

P.S. You read this whole journal!!!!! Your poor brain. LOL.
