Food to take to work

Hi,

What health food do you take to work besides whole grain sandwhiches, apples, almonds?
I'm not a friend of those meal replacement bars (unless you know some that taste excellent and have good nutritional value).
Thanks for any ideas.
:)

I take a lot with me to work. I am the only person who brings a cooler with me, I carry it everywhere, even on the weekends! Things I usually have in there are:

1. I cook up boneless, skinless chicken breast each Sunday. I make enough for the week. I slice them up into bite size peices and package them in plastic baggies for the entire week. I usually put 5-6 ounces in each bag.

2. Whole wheat hamburger bun with lean, ground turkey breast.

3. Almonds and sunflower seeds.

4. Whole wheat bread with fat free cheese and lean turkey slices to make a quick turkey melt.

5. Tons of cold veggies, I each a serving of veggies with every meal except breakfast.

6. Hard boiled eggs

7. Tons of fruits

8. My protein shakes

9. Natural peanut butter for toast with pb and sliced banana on it

10. Fish

11. Brown, long grain rice

I am sure there is more that I am forgetting, but that should give you some ideas.

It depends what you want...

If you are looking to eat to give your body protein whilst you are bodybuilding then a few protein shakes and bars will help you out.

You can also try mass gainer shakes if you are looking to put on weight.

Otherwise, eating healthily with nuts/seeds & fresh fruit & veg!

Hmmm,

I would shy away from this suggestion. Do not use shakes, bars, and weight gain powders as your primary food source, not even if you are bodybuilding. Primary nutrient intake should come from whole, natural foods. Supplements should be a last resort or exactly what they are called, a SUPPLEMENT to your normal nutritional base.

I made that suggestion as they contain good nutrition, that's all.

I personally would eat fresh food that take supplements, it was just a suggestion if you are looking for extra protein for example.

How do you cook your chicken breasts? Do you just keep them in the fridge and they are good all week? Or do you freeze them ... chicken saminela scares me :)

Lately I've been loving grilled chicken overtop a bed of whole wheat pasta with some sauteed vegetables. It's great.

However, I only get a break every 5 hours or so, so in between I make a protein shake with peanut butter for an evening "snack" and a protein shake with oatmeal in the morning.

I've never really looked at the ingredients on those tuna packets, but so long as they don't have excessive (read: added) fat and lots of preservatives, they should be ok. Try eating them on top of a large salad with a low fat vinaigrette, or with some 100% whole grain crackers (try the wheat thins kind, they don't taste like cardboard!) and vegetables like broccoli and carrots on the side.
Or, use it in a wrap with chopped tomatoes, lettuce, shredded carrot and some avocado.

salad. soup.
