Jogger's Diary

This is my first entry. I am 27, 5'2", 135 lbs. I don't know if measuring correctly, but my belly is about 38 inches and my butt is about 39 1/2 inches. I've weighed as much as 150, but easily lost those last 15 lbs by cooking healthy and jogging. Now is the hard part. My body seems to really resist dropping the last 10 lbs or so. My biggest diet traps are eating junk food with my husband, stress eating, and eating to try and increase energy - keep me going. My current strategy is to control portions. Even when eating whole grains and veggies I tend to overdo my portions. I know diaries and social support are really good for weight loss. If I set clear goals and keep track - I'll do better. Bathing suit season - here I come!

yea!!!

GO You!!! I've been keeping a journal and it's helped me work through my first slimp today :D. I was feeling lazy but after reading all the positive feed back I got to it. My boyfriend also said he would work not with me lol. I wish you the best of luck. I know what you mean about stress eating and getting to Large of portions. Something you can try that worked for me, It put something together you know is too small. Say your eating breafast? make a very small bowl of cerel then make another one the same size and sometimes that can equal a "normal" sized meal. I'm no pro at this so if you don't want to do this I wont bite your head off lol. Hope you have fun on the site, I have been :D.
Or you can just have a Small Small serving and just get seconds? so it can feel like your eating more :).

Hi Jogger,
Welcome to the WLF and best of luck to you kicking those last 10 pounds :)

Thank you for the support!

I like the idea of breaking up normal portions into smaller meals to make it feel like you are eating more. I think there was a study showing that people feel more full when they eat on smaller plates or something like that. Same idea, I think.

Hey, found your diary! I'm so glad you started one :) It's nice to be able to see how others are doing and post back and forth. I love talking in the chat, but you know how often people go in there! lol. Anyways, good luck on losing those last pounds. I'm sure controlling portions will help a lot with losing that weight :)

Oh and only last question, I noticed you had 2 different diaries going, which one are you gonna stick to? Just so I know I'm posting in the right one. Thanks!

Have a great day!

Oops, I didn't mean to start 2 different diaries

I guess I am a bit electronically challenged or someing. I didn't mean to start 2 diaries. I guess I just keep posing to this same thread?

I really lost weight!

Okay so I have not been under 135 lbs (my stuck point) in 4 years. But today I stepped on the scale and that 1/2 lb dip below 135 I swear I have been seeing the last couple days finally turned into something very clear. At least a 1 lb loss to put me at 134 lbs! It is only 1 pound but I am totally thrilled. I feel like I can even wait another 7 days to lose another. As long as I have this sign that my efforts are paying off, I feel like I can stick with my diet. Other good news - I don't look too bad in my ballet recital costume that arrived yesterday - sigh of relief! The obnoxiously poofy skirt nicely covers my exterior. ;)

That's awesome! I'm glad you feel like you can stick to your diet, it's so important. I'm sure you'll do great, just keep up the good work.

By the way, I'm glad you like how you look in your ballet recital costume!

Well again, good luck to you. It seems like we have similar goals. I also dropped my "first 20" last year... in the fall. Now it's the last little 15 that needs to go. I admit that I could just be happy with where I am but it's a vanity thing... I know if I drop a little more fat I'll have better abs for the summer.

So my landlord seems to have conveniently forgotten that I already paid last months rent + damage deposit 4 years ago when I moved in. I have her signature verifying this, but she is still acting like she doesn't believe it to be true! All stirred up about it, I found myself downing a bowl of cereal. Oh well, I should be able to obtain a record from my bank of my payment. It is just a nuisance and distracted me from my goal of chopping celery to eat with hummus for my afternoon snack - instead of the higher calorie bowl of cereal I just ate!

That's too bad about your landlord. If you have her signature that's proof enough. Besides if you had really forgotten, you think she would have let you live there for 4 years? If you had forgotted to pay rent and a deposit she would have been on your case from the very beginning and then kicked you out if you didn't pay it. I hope you can get more proof from the bank, I hope they'd have the records too, I don't know how long banks can go back into an account to see the transactions.

Records

My bank gave me a phone number I can call on Monday that might be able to pull the record. We will see! But like you said, her signature on the lease should be proof enough anyways...

It is beautiful out here today. I had a great jog this morning and I might go to the park to read in a bit. :)

Too many calories!

According to the scale, I overdid it yesterday. The disturbing thing was how easy it was to overdo it. I think my body really likes the 135 set point. I had a sugar free coffee with soy and 2 snacks. Snacks seem to really mess everything up for me. I think I will try to limit snacks today to: fruit or celery w/ hummus. Those are the only snacks allowed! I am going to try and avoid the coffee altogether - we will see how that goes!:) Yesterday, I was never feeling stuffed, but I wasn't the slightest bit hungry when I went to bed. For better or worse, I still think my hunger barometer is the most accurate measure of whether it has been a good diet day or not.

Snacks are great depending on what kind! I mean you could eat veggies and fat free dip! Which would be a nice change from the only snacks you're allowing. Also when eating fruit, make sure not to overdo it. Fruits are healthy but they do have sugars and some people would eat too much fruit thinking it's fine. Just remember, everything in proportion. Also, what I like to have for a snack is my fat free yogurt and some nuts (for protein) or a protein shake. So hopefully that'll help give you some ideas on diff things you can do :)

Hey there Jogger (and hi Risty :)), I have similar goals. I lost 27 lbs during the past 9 months and now my body is just STUCK at 141. But the whole time I was losing steadily I would always fluctuate by 1 to 3 pounds a week. It wasn't until I started plateauing that I stopped fluctuating up (OR DOWN:mad: ). I just started a journal as well so if you come up with anything that's really working, let me know :D .

your weight will fluctuate up and down during the week. if you set yourself a specific weigh in day and weigh in at the same time then you get the most effective results. apparently if you weigh on the same day before breakfast and after youve been to the bathroom and without clothes then that is your true weight.

Daily Fluctuations

Oh yeah! I didn't realize I had more posts because my diary has grown long enough to go on two pages!

Risty - I heard that about the fruit from my mom because her dietician called to check-up on her and actually told her she was eating too much fruit! Lol! I wish lactose didn't bother my stomach - yogurt is so yummy and healthy.

Blancita- Perhaps, some fluctuation is a good sign? I did break that 135 stuck point and I am concerned about going back to 135 because it was so hard to break 135. :) I think I need to shrink my stomach - I think that works!!!! :p No really - in a matter of a week or so, I seem to be more satisfied on a smaller amount of food, but I was pretty hungry on that some amount just a few days ago.

Sophie- I like to jump on the scale first thing in the morning to check my weight. The day after that post my weight dropped to 133 from 134.5ish so I might have made too big a deal about it - I don't know. It is hard not to read too much into the scale when you are trying so hard to lose!!!

Update:

TOM is here now, along with final exams and wow, it is tough to even think of dieting. I went to a coffee shop the other night and was served a sugar free Italian soda and a large warm chocolate chip cookie. I was in heaven, but then I went home and ate more (trying to keep myself awake to study)! I had gotten down to 133 and now I am back to 134 and really I am just trying not to totally blow it at this point. I'll be done with all these papers and projects on Friday. Thank goodness! Then 2 weeks later I get to see my husband who I have not seen in a month and a half!!! I think it would be really cool if I could weigh 130 when I see him, but weight loss is kind of a slow deal - so I might have to be happy with wherever it is that I am at. I'll be happy anyway- I get to see him!!!

It's too bad lactose hurts your stomach. I'm sure you'll find alternative things to eat that's healthy and tasty and good for snacks!

I'm excited for you being almost done your papers and soon to see your husband! Now don't do what I did when I used to be in a long distance relationship and go out to eat a lot because you want to spend some nice time out together! Boy oh boy did that turn out bad. I gained so much weight from that in a month and a half.... I don't remember exactly but it was like 10-20 pounds. I came home not fitting into my clothes, it was bad. So if you guys do like to go out and eat, just make sure it's sensible things and there's also plenty of other fun things to do besides eating!

Good luck with everything, I hope these 2 weeks pass fast so you can see your hubby!
