down raw eggs?? A. is that safe? B. Is that tasty??

I could never do that.. You are brave!

Safe? Pretty darn. recent history would argue that you stand a better chance getting salmonella from spinach or tomatoes than from eggs. Also with all the recalls you see I would say it is as safe as any store bought food. Safer maybe eaten raw because in raw, whole foods you have a better chance of catching something that isnt right.

Tasty? Tasteless at best. What makes them "sound" disgusting is actually what makes them not that unpleasant to swallow. The pretty much slide right down. I crack them in a glass and slam it like tequila. If the texture doesnt bother you, you got it made. I would say from a taste stand point I prefer the slight egg white after taste to the vitamin after taste you get when you let a vitamin sit on your tongue too long. I hate that taste and it sometimes makes me gag.

Also, raw eggs are much more healthy than cooked based on chemical changes in the proteins when cooked. Interestingly enough most egg allergies are to cooked eggs. When consumed raw, egg allergies virtually disappear .

That's a very interesting and truthful post, imo... I don't really eat that many eggs to begin with, unless they are scrambled or already baked into a cake or something... I wouldn't mind drinking raw eggs if I had to either. I used to eat oysters on the half shell a lot and imagine the texture of a raw egg sliding down your throat to be similiar...

I am for sure gonna try it... however I don't know how many points an egg is... I don't eat many because you have to cook them... but now I guess you dont HAVE to cook them... Hmmm...

Just checking in. Mom called and said that she read our salon appt. wrong. Apparently its tomorrow night and not tonight. Which means.... SALSAEROBICS!!!!!!! **booty shake** Ha ha only the BEST aerobic class in town. My co-worker got me hooked on it last year, its basically an aerobics class, but its all done through latin dance steps... salsa, cumbia, meringe (spelling!), cha-cha... TONS of fun and I am always drenched by the time its over. I just recently started adding 1 lb wrist weights... and let me tell you it for sure makes a difference! I almost didnt make it the first time I used them, it was awesome! Ha ha can't you tell I am excited!?

So thats all for now... had my afternoon snack.. or am having my afternoon snack rather.

PM Snack
1 jello pudding cup (100 cal vairety): 2 pts
1 Lg Gala Apple: 1 pt
Total: 3 pts

Hey, just wanted to check out your diary. I'm interested in Weight Watchers. Do you like it? You look like you're doing well. Just wanted to add my take on eggs. I've been trying to get more protein in my diet, but I love smoothies in my diet. As a way to get both I just add a couple cooked egg whites into the smoothie. You can't tell the difference. Maybe I'll have to try adding raw ones. That would be so much easier.

We had a massive breakout of salmonella after raw eggs were served at a funeral (in the aoili dressing) so they are not ALWAYS safe. 60 people got critically sick!

I would never eat eggs raw, just because a. the taste lol and b. there is a possibility of salmonella.

A good alternative to raw eggs is egg white powder, contains all the protein!

Not to bash on the raw eggs...actually yeah, I'm gonna bash. haha The thought of swallowing a raw egg makes me feel nauseous. I'd rather cook up a couple of egg whites :) The yolks are what have all the points...sure a few yolks here and there are good, but you get the most bang for your buck w/the whites.

Good idea on skipping the run in the rain...no need to make yourself sick or risk getting blisters from running in wet shoes/clothes.

I didnt say they were "ALWAYS safe" I said the odds are against it. 0.003% are infected. Which means that at the rate that I consume them I will run across 1 about every 42 years. Its also worth noting that almost everyone has had salmonella likely more than once. In most healthy adults though the symptoms are usually a couple days of loose stool and maybe a few headaches. While it can be potentially dangerous it seldom is.

I dont think I was dishonest about the safety of raw eggs.
tap water
spinach
cantaloupe
milk
lettuce
They all have histories of salmonella. Everyone still eats them?

Yea I definately wasn't trying to make a point that every raw egg carries salmonella, I have just heard everytime raw egg comes up salmonella is a topic sure to follow. I'm sure it's just like shell seafood. I love lobster, though I know it has probably one of the greatest risks for salmonella.

To sum up....I'd still never eat raw eggs (seems wayy too unappetizing), and you, my friend, are very brave.:hurray::cheers2:

I feel ya. Isnt it weird how things just get stuck in our heads? The most widespread recent food based disease outbreaks were:
tomato (current)
peanut butter 2006
spinach 2005
green onions 2003
raspberries mid 90s

No one ever says "green onions. You'll get hepatitis" Poor egg. The said thing is that is also the victim of the whole "we changed our minds about cholesterol thing."

On another note I just read that cilantro, and jalepeno peppers are about to be recalled as well.

My deduction? Terrorists are targeting the salsa production of america.

Sorry to hijack your diary with food borne desease talk Miss.

Good Morning! Well late morning... I acutally had work on my desk today, weird!

Anywho! Last night's salsaerobics was AMAZING! I am still energized! And to top that off I am having a "skinny day" to boot! Whoot Whoot! LOL... I think I've had like 5 "fat days" in a row so I needed one!

After my days eating yesterday I had 10 points left... so I ordered a pizza and had two slices which just happened to equal 10 points. Ha I also had some salad 0 points along with a fat free spritzer again 0 points! And I had a diet DP, again 0 pts! So yesterday was a great day overall!

Today is going well thus far. As earlier mentioned I acutally had work on my desk to do. Its been really slow these past few weeks and I hate coming to work when its slow... because I sit here and pretty much do nothing all day... granted I get paid, but its not any fun by any means. I slept in this morning so didn't get a workout in, but thats alright too, I am pretty sore from the weeks workouts... and hopefully will get a run in tonight.

That's all for now...

Breakfast
1 cup coffee: 0 pts
2 tbsp non-dairy creamer: 2 pts
1.5 pkt splendia: 0 pts
1 cup Special K: 2 pts
1/2 cup Fat Free Milk: 1 pt
Total: 5 pts
(Yikes! I better watch it!)

I'm very sad that Taco Bell had nixed the green onions on the Nacho Supreme...it was from some type of scare. But they never returned. Funny how a few major cases of some funky thing on the veggies can really affect the things we do! I know...random...

So here I sit at my desk... thinking about fiber of all things...

Anyway, my energy from last night's salsa class has finally disappeared... along with all the work on my desk. I spent the last hour writing up a little thing on fiber of all things... ha ha... I need to get fiber off the brain.

As for tonight its Mom and I's hair appointment. I am not too excited at the moment but things might change. I am just grumpy all of a sudden I think. It is rather hot in this office....

Okay so lunch eats:
1 bagel: 4 pts (eek I know but sooo good!)
1.5 tbsp fat free cream cheese: 1.5 pts
1/2 roma tomato: 0 pts
1 motts apple sauce cup: 1 pt
32 oz Water: 0 pts
Total: 6.5 pts

Fibre One Honey Oat Clusters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

enough said.

Ha ha thanks for the info! I went shopping today and tried to find a cereal high in fiber and low in sugar... I found all bran with yogurt by kellogs. 7g of sugar per serving and 10 grams of fiber. The special K I was eating had 9g of sugar and only 1 g of fiber... I looked at a fiber one box but if I remember correctly it was loaded with sugar... so I passed... Ill let you know how this one tastes....
