You may call me: Laura
Age: 19
Occupation: Full-time 3rd year student majoring in Neurobio, physio, and behavior with double minors in econ and human development;; unsure of med school or MPH or....mooch off mother.
History: I've always been a fat child. I came into this world at 10 pounds, was 90 pounds by the age of 5, and tipped at an all-time high at 198.8 pounds a month before I turned 18. Now, I am roughly 175-180 pounds. I am a yo-yo dieter. I can easily lose 10 pounds (of mostly water weight) in about 2 weeks by eating salads and cardio. But! I must do this the right way! It's tough being Asian-American and..not looking like a "typical" Asian-American? Maybe i'm just super hard on myself, but it has definitely hindered my "college" experience .

I should've weighed myself this morning, but I forgot to...and it was way too chilly to take off my clothes!

Last night's workout: 40-45 minutes of cardio. Gosh, I have really horrible stamina/endurance, after 5 minutes on one machine, I would get so bored, have my eye on the clock, and would just have to go to another one. I did treadmillin' at a 5.0 incline, stationary bike, elliptical,...sheesh! I did last on the elliptical for 15 minutes though...interval training makes time go by fast! love it!

Today's food log:
(180 degree change!!!)
700am- 1/2 cup of oatmeal with 2 packets of honey from KFC and 1 tbs of cinnamon
900am- unripe medium banana
1130- medium orange
1230- spinach, turkey, chicken, peas, kidney beans (a total weight of 9 ounces) <-- from the hospital's cafeteria I volunteer at...pay by the ounce. PLUS for dessert 12 ounce can of diet soda and 2 rectangles of graham crackers
500- 2/3 large fuji apple
615pm- pasta/noodles, 1 chicken thigh, and veggies (green beans, carrots, peas)--less than 2 cups (i used a smaller bowl for dinner today!!)

possibly a yoplait lite yogurt after the workout (i need to eat up all my "bad" foods (i.e, pasta)...i already went shopping to be 150% full-force on my lifestyle change..chicken breast, frozen veggies, eggplant, bok choy)

I'm going to catch a ride with my roomie to the gym..yay!!! I hope i'll have a better time with cardio endurance tonight...

tonight's workout: 30 minutes of non-stop badminton and laughter
weigh 178.4lbs

i'm going to drink some tea and then go to sleep, i'm tired.

Good Morning Everyone....I ate approximately 550 calories before going to bed. I got on the scale and I was still below from what i was yesterday...so maybe that's a sign i was not eating enough calories.

how many calories a day are you getting?

Do spend some quality time with teh stickied threads - especially in nutrition.. you're doing yourself a great disservice by eating too few calories...

I haven't calculated my macros, but you are absolutely right. I am NOT doing this correctly, I have a feeling I might just crash anyday soon. Yesterday night's In n' out meal has me feeling reassured though.

I'm thinking about staying around 1500 calories.

I'll start calculating macros today.

Today's food log:
700: one tbsp of oatmeal (i choked!)
1200: 1 package of Shin Ramen w/ 1 egg, 12 chips of doritos,
1230: 2 eggs fried w/ 2 hot dogs over 1 cup white rice
0500: 1 yoplait lite yogurt apple turnover flavor
1000: 8 shots of remy martin/sake/hennessy + 1 slice of wheat bread + 1 tbsp of goober
0130: mixed orange drink w/ grey goose

horrible food choices...gosh, I need to learn how to cook. I wish chicken could defrost faster. At least I will be meeting my calorie limit?
I just checked fitday, I am up to ~1400 calories because I didn't add the one tbsp of oatmeal, 51% fat, 37% carbs, 12% protein...
yikes.

today's workout: 30 minute of sweaty cardio. some lunges w/ 8 lb weights. The sweatest workout ever since I started. woohoo! Later tonight, I am supposed to go dancing with my roomies. I hope I dance something off!

UPDATE: wow...last nite...was really fun. I danced HELLLLLA hard. I also drank hella. eck

Congrats on your decision to lose weight. I'm 19 too! :) Ramen noodles have horrible horrible calories, I reccomend not making them part of your daily routine, maybe a treat once and a while. Also , I was wondering if you're drinking only diet soda, because it has far less calories.

Keep up the work though. Remember to try and get some fruits and vegetables in there, I know it's hard, but they're quite low in calories and will help you tremendously when you need a snack!

HIIIIII!!!!!! Thanks for stopping by. =] :hurray:

I didn't have anything on the stove! It sucks being a college student...I started cooking eggplant with a can of tomatoes with a bag of frozen veggies, but it took forever! (and smelled quite unpleasant) So, I popped open my one, and LAST and ONLY, bag of my favorite ramen with an egg. The 12 Doritos were stale...so even though I ate them, I threw away the whole bag. Those family size bags. yep! Slowly, but surely, throwing away the junk!

Then I didn't feel "satisfied", so I kept eating..junk. eck, I plan on eating an apple and yogurt (because it expires today! =O) for the rest of day.

My gosh, I am pretty damn full right now. Apple, Yogurt, and water will do me good.

Hopefully a better balance then that tomorrow. I think you're the 5th person today I've seen say they'd snack on eating an apple. :O You people and your apples.

I just punched in a few numbers in the Harris Benedict Equation.
To cut 30% of my daily caloric needs, I need roughly 1700 calories.

I'm still in the transitional phase. I am low on finances so probably will not be able to go grocery shopping for another week or 10 days. I need to eat to survive, right?

I have some chicken breast and frozen veggies that can last me a week...I'll probably start boiling chicken breast tomorrow. I finished my pasta yesterday, today I finished my last bag of ramen and threw out the Doritos.

I must admit. I am a complete newbie on this website. I better go look around at the other threads. hehehe...

Today's food log
0130: 7 ounces of salad- spinach, olives, chicken breast, kidney beans, balsamic vinegerette
0430: 4 ounces of boiled chicken breast, veggies, 4- 5" eggplant sticks, 2 tomatoes peeled
0100am: 2 jalapeno poppers, handful of curly fries dipped in ranch sauce

Calories: ~unsure. but the 0100am meal is approximately 550 calories alone.

I am still 15% hungover. so....I don't know if I'm going to workout today.

I fell asleep from 630-930 and figured I shouldn't eat. I am definitely dehydrated though. After the alcohol binge and starting my period tonight, my body must be thirsty.

Okay, I'm going to go get some water. gosh, I hate cramps! >=(

Hey girl,
I just graduated from college, and I am SO mad I let myself be overweight the whole time. It's so hard to be in college and have a difficult major while trying desperately to have the college experience. I ended up getting a degree in engineering, but as a result I gained almost 100 pounds. I know how hard it is, but I know you can do it because you have a fabulous attitude. If you need some encouragement or would like a diet buddy, pm me! :cheers2:

Hello Everyone!

I hope to get back to schedule, with my life, gym, schoolwork!, all today. I hope everyone has a good day!

Food log:
0700: 1/2 cup of oatmeal w/

I also split a rice crispie square with my brother...so that's okay, right? nonetheless, I ate alot and strictly drank Sprite Zero.

but i forgot...i have a short-term goal of 25-30 pounds in 10 weeks and week 1 is almost coming to an end.

how do i remind myself????????? it's so easy to say "oh well".......

It was nice having lunch with my brother. We discussed economics and politics. gosh, we're so messed up. "we" meaning this world. America. maybe that.

I'm heading down to the bay because I need to pick up my contacts and visit my cousin who just had surgery, he's bedridden for 2 weeks. suckkkkkkkkkks...and i will meet with my brother for lunch, so i don't know what. but i'll try to get some veggies in.

10 minute interval elliptical
.5 mile jogging/brisk walking on the track

Hey girl,
You're doing so great with your food and exercise, keep it up! Have fun at lunch and check your private messages! ;)

:hurray:

Hey,
I am a fellow student (albeit postgrad, I am a medic already getting a masters in fetal medicine (as part of my Ob/Gyn training)). However, I have been a student for such a long time (and added this extra year just for "fun") and I can tell you, it is an excellent excuse for eating wrong, but it shouldn't be!
I stopped exercising because studying and working ( I work part time 25-30 weekly hours nanny-ing) was too much to juggle while I also did all my exercise (I danced and climbed), and I ate piles of crap just because...

But I am still a college student now and I am eating correctly! Cooking wrong food takes almost the same time as cooking good food, and ordering out costs about double. So... just experiment! Sure in the beginning it won't be great, but eventually you will find what you can cook and what you can't! And if you can't... it shouldn't stop you! Find yourself a recipe and cook it again ;)!

I know tons of healthy yummy recipes and I have no problems sharing if you would like some! We eat a lot of ratatouille (like the mouse in the cartoon...), which is just nice veg thrown together in a pan, when we don't have the time and/or energy to cook something nicer.

Anyhow, I think you will get great info on here (I know I did), and you will find your own way. Everyone has their own way to go, and it is overwhelming when everybody tells you Dont do that, Do this, Don;t eat carbs, fats, sugars, fruits, vegs, Only in the morning, only after 6 pm...
So this will be a "long-ish" adventure, so relax and enjoy it! Camy

Hi Lauree Lee,

I'm new here, too. (Sort of, I was on here a good bit over a year ago; but I mysteriously vanished, and re-appeared now.) I know that exercise can be boring as all get out... Whenever I exercised inside, I couldn't do it for more than 2 weeks it bored me that much. And when I did do it, I would stare at the clock, constantly.

Something that I have found, though, is that a great way to keep from being bored is to exercise outside OR do an exercise that isn't just like being a gerbil on a wheel. (Like when you said you went dancing, for example) Here are a few examples: Jump rope, basketball (Just shooting hoops, you know?) Biking (Very fun!), Swimming, Tossing a football around with some friends, taking a nature walk, walking to work, walking to school, doing yardwork, doing housework, playing drums (Lol, not sure if you've just got a drumset lying around) And stuff like that. I'm sure you'd be able to think of a lot more than I!

Also... I have to admit, Ramen Noodles may be my single favorite food ever! I grew up on them, mastered the art of cooking them, and my tradition would be 'noo-noo's (my nickname for them) and a coke' ... If you love them, don't cut them out forever (Or you'll be more likely to think of dieting as torture) Treat yourself to a pack or two every two weeks, or every month or something. (That's what I'm planning, hehe!) Infact... I'm going to go look up the calories on them right now...

Ok back. While they have no nutrition, each pack is only 190 calories. The majority of it is carbs, with a good bit of fat, and a wee bit of protien. I would probably reccomend 190 calories worth of fruit than that, though... But just sayin' it's not as bad as cheating with cake and ice cream if you catch my drift...

Good luck on the weight loss! I am also 19, and have a large amount of weight to lose.

-N-

Warning: Anyone who keeps up with my diary entries, please know that I do go back and edit them. Especially the day afterwards, I go back and recap the previous day.

Soo....please! Go back and read it! From now on, I will try to color the edited/updated stuff, so it's easier to catch.

Once again, thanks so much for stopping by everyone. I will personally response to each individual stop. I just gotta go eat some home cooking!

This weekend is quite....disasterous.

did I even spell that word correctly? I know for one sure I am living like it correctly. woowee.

I'm at home visiting the family....and my family is obese. period.

I guess I will do a weekly weigh-in, or maybe a daily weigh-in to keep me on track.

NEXT WEIGH-IN: 4/08/08 STAY TUNE!!

I hope this weekend doesn't set me off too far back. Gosh, when is my weigh-in day? i'm going to scroll up and find out....

in the meantime, i went shopping. I LOVE NORDSTROM RACK. love love love. I bought a pair of People's Liberation jeans, SUPER SEXY! they're size 31, they button up, but man, I have a 2 inch-grab muffin top. so...definitely not wearable to the public.

Sigh* sizing sucks. I fit in a 30 in Lucky Jeans, 31 in Citizens, and 32 in Sevens...sigh*

Isn't People's Liberation the company from The Hills where Whitney works? I hate myself for knowing that, LOL. I SOOO want to fit into sexy jeans too. I haven't been able to in years!!! We can do it! Daily weigh ins SUCK!!!!!!! Just saying, because my weight fluctuates so much during the day that it can get depressing when my scale says I gained a pound overnight.:nopity:
