Is running after lifting ok?

Is it ok if I do my lifting routine around 10am, then go running around 4pm for 30mins-1hr? I hear running is a catabolic excersize, am I killing my lifting gains by running afterwards?
 
Even lifting is a catabolic exercise so dont worry so much about that. Yes, you can run after lifting but please don't do it for 30-60 minutes. 10-20 minutes would be fine but 30-60 minutes is too much.
 
Sure lowering your intensity of your post workout run/jog may have less ill effects in terms of catabolism.. BUT what is the point of it?
If you want to run for the purpose of fat oxidization.. You are better off not doing it after your workout because unless you are genetically gifted, you are putting yourself in a perfect position to lose muscle and elevate your cortisol levels even higher (which will lead to muscles being broken down for amino acids).
IMO you should run at different times if you plan on doing any serious cardio.
 
it would be for losing BF%. I would be doing this instead of doing cardio right after lifting. Im not aiming to be a marathon runner or anything
 
Cardio should be done before weightraining. I always do cardio before weightraining. If you do cardio after weightraining, then your muscles will be tired and in risk of injury because they need rest.

err.. its exactly oposite actually, cardio should be done after.
 
Okay - I am hearing a bunch of things... Is there research done on this? on cardio being first and then weightraining, or weightraining being first and then cardio, or weightraining on one day and cardio on the next day
 
How many minutes after weightraining should I do cardio? like 10-15 minutes after or right away? The cardio I would like to do is HIIT (to help get me ready for soccer) out on the track. I am so used to doing cardio before weightraining. My fitness class teacher has us run and then do weightraining.

I will do some research on this before I change my routine around.



What are the pro's and cons of cardio before weightraining? Also, weightraining before cardio? Weightraining on one day and cardio on the next?

Would this be good for the rest of this semester (I would like to change the weightraining to tuesday/thursday/saturdays, but I dont want to do weightraining on the same days I have sports practice and if I don't make the team, I can change it up)?...

Here is an example of what I am thinking about...

Monday/Wednesday/Friday - Weightraining
Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday - HIIT/Sprint Work/Agility

After this semester is over- Tuesday/Thursdays/Saturdays - Weightraining
Monday/Wednesdays/Fridays - HIIT/Sprint Work/Agility
 
yes do cardio on non weight days..the reason you dont do cardio after weight training especially HIIT type cardio is because
1) weight training is high intensity training so whats the point of doing more
2)after you lift weights for about 45mins your body will release cortisol which uses muscle as energy,if you do more cardio after that you will lose more muscle.
if you have to do cardio after weights take a carb or protein drink just before cardio.

I want to clarify this - HIIT is perfect for being in soccer shape right? Soccer is a mixture of running, sprinting, and walking (mostly running and sprinting)

Yeah, soccer IS HIIT :p
 
as long as your not running before your lifting you should be alright. its hard to achieve a good balance of weight training and running, but for me i have found the most effective method to be splitting it up by at least 4 hours. its almost impossible to be on your a game at both. Instead of picking one or the other i sacrfice a little bit of strength for cardiovascular endurance.
