Inspired, motivated, and READY!!! :)

Hello there! Just a quick update before bed :)

Snack - Clementine, 5 whole wheat crackers w/cream cheese
Breakfast - Egg w/cheese, toast
Lunch - Half of Jimmy John's veggie sub (provolone cheese, tomato, lettuce, mayo, avocado spread on french bread)
Snack - Almonds
Dinner - Salad w/onion and 1 tbsp ranch dressing, other half of sub
Snack - Popcorn, half of a Diet Coke

Went to the movies with my friend, that's where the popcorn and soda came from (she brought me a can... I felt bad cuz I NEVER drink soda anymore!!) Took it easy on the popcorn. I drank maybe 60 ounces of water today? Not sure on the exact amount. And my calories are around 1,500. Not bad.

Okay... time to sleep so I can get up nice and early to get to the gym in the morning! I'm excited :D

PS - As you may have noticed I updated my ticker - changed my goal weight from 135 to 125. Since my Christmas goal of 135 is through, my next goal is to be 130 by Valentine's day. I think that is a reasonable amount of time to do it - a month and half... this means about 1.3 pounds lost per week! I really gotta kick some butt now!

Goodnight
~ Sarah

That's a good goal, Sarah. I think maybe I will also set a valentine's day goal. You also gave me an idea with your soda comment. Thanks!

Woooooowee!

Ran 7 miles straight at the gym this morning... in about 70 minutes (give or take a few minutes, I didn't have my watch to time it) and now I have HUUUUUGGEEEE blisters on my feet! Seriously, the blister on the inside of my left foot is little bigger than a quarter. Maybe the size of a half dollar. Whatever, it's the biggest blister I've ever seen on my body! Haha. But it was worth it because now I have set myself a new "record" if you will for the longest distance running non-stop. I feel like I could have kept going but I could feel the blisters forming on my feet and my knees were starting to hurt so I knew it was best to stop.

I also went from 138.4 pounds to 137.2 since yesterday. Must've been the counting calories and drinking lots of water! What a difference that can make.

I still have no solid plans for tonight, but I know that my friend is having a New Year's Eve "ugly sweater" party. Haven't I been to enough of those already? Sheesh. I wanna dress up and look gooood tonight! But I guess that's all that is really going on so... whatever! I know there will be lots of drinking tonight but that's what New Year's Eve is all about... right? :) So I'll enjoy myself! I can already say I'm not going to the gym tomorrow - I'm sure my legs will be very sore from today and I'll probably have a nice hangover, and I'm going bowling with my boyfriend's family around lunch time so I'll be keeping busy anyway.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year's! See ya tomorrow, 2010!:seeya:

~ Sarah

You could find an old sweater and cut it off just below the braw line! LOL
That would be kind of ugly and sexy at the same time you'd get to show off your hard earned flat tummy. :D

Woohoo! That's a pretty impressive feat. 7 miles with months to go until the half. You'll do that no problem. Hope you had a fun New Years. :)

New Year's was alright. Went to bed at 10 after midnight! LOL But I knew it would be best because I would rather not have a hangover when I woke up, and I didn't :) I went bowling yesterday with my boyfriend and his family. Ate a LOTTTTT of pizza. Blah. But drank lots of water. That was good atleast.

This morning I went to the gym. Ran a mile in a new record time - 8:16! :) I could not run again after though because my blisters started to bother me again. I walked on the treadmill with incline of 8% @ 3.5 mph for 10 minutes and rode a bike for 10 minutes, then wrapped it up with my floor exercises. I just ate a blueberry bagel with a crap load of cream cheese for breakfast. Not the best choice but I guess I have in my mind that I'll be eating crappy today anyways (ONE more Christmas on my boyfriend's side!) sooo there's no point in trying to keep the calories low when I know they will really add up later after a few appetizers and drinks! OH, AND my boyfriend's mom made a peanut butter cake that looks SOOO good. And I just have to try it. I'm glad I got my workout in today so maybe I won't feel quite as bad later on! :(

I am very happy though that after today, every party/celebration/get together is OUT OF THE WAY and it's back to healthy eating and living!

That's all for now!
~ Sarah

Good news: I didn't eat myself SICK last night! Bad news: I still ate crappy and drank a good amount of alcohol. I had some taco dip, chili cheese dip, meatballs, a sloppy joe, cheese and crackers. I ate some fruit just to feel a little healthier but it didn't really work, haha. I also had 5 mixed drinks and a strawberry margarita. Sooo many calories :( Oh and I forgot about the cake! Well I didn't eat much of it, I'm glad I cut myself off... it was yummy... but I shoved the other half of it in my boyfriend's face because I knew peanut butter + chocolate + cake = 238895343 calories and it made me sick to think about it!

I went to the gym this afternoon but had to stop my run at 1.5 miles because my left shin was KILLING me! Great. I should have iced my shins after that 7 mile run the other day... but I didn't. So this is what I get! :banghead: I did 1.5 miles on the elliptical with highest incline and resistance of 8. I did my floor exercises before I went to the gym so I wasn't there very long.

Food today:
Breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled, toast w/butter
Lunch - Salad w/onion & grape tomatoes, ham & mayo & onion sandwich on a roll
Snack - Almonds, clementine
Dinner - Chicken, noodles, broccoli, bread w/butter

And I'm probably going to have some ice cream because I'm really craving SWEET and I'm only saying it's okay because I'm getting my period this week and I should be able to have some :)

I've been doing good with drinking more water today.... but I know I'm still not 100% on track and it's kind of bumming me out. I just need to get back to school and get back to my routine of gym every morning at 6:30, writing down all my food in my notebook, and working out in the mornings before work on weekends. I only worked out 4 days last week and I ALWAYS work out at LEAST 6 days a week when I'm in school! Christmas break is bad news! Actually can't wait for it to be over...

Goodnight
~ Sarah

Down 1 pound since yesterday - not that this really matters but I'm glad to see the weight go down instead of up! Back to counting calories and I'm on the right track so far today. I decided to sleep in today because I get off work in 2 hours so I will have time to hit up the gym! Hopefully I can run today... if my shin starts to hurt again I'm going to be sooo angry! I think I will do some circuit training. I hate using the machines though because I never use them so when I do it takes me like 5 minutes to figure out how to use it and I look like a dumbass! Tonight I'm getting a pizza for me and my boyfriend but I'm only going to have 2 slices and this will still keep me within my daily calories! Can't wait to get out of here and hit up the gym!

Hope everyone is off to a good start this week... I see a lot of new people on here now that it's the new year so let's start it off right!!!

Marie and Lisa.... if you're reading this, I miss hearing from you! :(

Sorry sorry, I'm here!!! I wrote you this big long note last night, but my computer froze when I went to send it and didn't have time to rewrite it :(

I'm a little worried about you actually. Your tone is quite down and I'm not sure why. There are always going to be challenges along the way and your shins are yours right now. You said that you were going to start up with the weight training in January... it's January ;) Make an appointment with a trainer at the gym and learn how to use those machines!!! Or even better, free weights!! Christmas is over!! Time to reevaluate, set new goals and run with them.

You Rock Girl!! Don't forget that :D:D:D

Hopefully I can run today... if my shin starts to hurt again I'm going to be sooo angry!

I know exactly how you feel. My shins ruined my whole last 6 weeks it seems.

Try some orthopedic heel lift thingies. I thought I was destined to deal with shin pains that would derail my running forever. $7 changed my outlook completely. I've now run a whole week w/o ANY muscle pain. Not less, but NONE, whereas before my shin got soooo tight I had to stop running and stretching out my toes straight would be painful on my shin. They had a dozen different kinds, but I made sure I bought the ones that raised the heel the most.

Try bending your foot by raising your toes and keeping your heel on the ground. That muscle there that flexes on the outside front of your shin was my problem. If that's your problem too, I think you'll feel much better with the little extra cushion to absorb the repetitive impact and the a slight lift of the heel so that the muscle works a little less with every step.

I hope you give it a try. If it's a different area have other inserts to try cheap at Walgreens or custom ones (which are more expensive, but I'm told do wonders on shin pain). My coworker who runs marathons all the time gave me an old pair of his months ago and told me to use them. I ignored him and ran in pain for so long like a moron.

7 miles straight - that is amazing!! Totally motivating me this morning! It was nice to catch up and read your progress over the remainder of the holidays. Sounds like you had lots of fun and still got all your work outs in. 4 times a week during the holidays is really really good so don't sell yourself short. Are you back at school today? I'm back at work and can't wait to get back into routine. I did some exercising during the break but still ate all the crap in my house - I think the worst is gone now. I have lots of work to catch up on and have to go back a thousand pages probably to find my diary so I'll post more there. Chat soon.

So happy to hear from you! I agree that my tone has been down a bit lately... I think it's because I've been stalling around this weight since November! But I'm just trying to remind myself that there is no rush... and I know I can get the rest of the weight off... I'm so excited to start this weight training - and my best friend is taking the class with me so I'll have a workout buddy so I don't feel dumb when I don't know what I'm doing!

I definitely need SOMETHING. I told my mom about it, plus the huge ass blisters I get on my feet, and I might go somewhere to get my feet checked out to see what kind of foot support I need and all that. I did get inserts for my shoes maybe 2 months ago, and they stopped the blisters and shin splints for the most part. I'm thinking since I haven't done a long run in quite a while, and I haven't been off the treadmill in a long time, that might be why the shin splits came back. But I will check out inserts that lift the heel, because mine don't do that. Thanks for the advice!

7 miles straight? Thats incredible! Certainly something to hang your hat on!

Congrats! :D

Thank you!!! Never thought I could do it but now I know it's possible if you work for it!

Hi Lisa! No, I'm not back at school until the 19th unfortunately! I'm so happy to hear from you... I was worried you weren't going to be back for a while but I'm glad you are! Aside from not being able to run really, I think I'm getting back into the swing of things now and I'm happy you are here to go along with me!

-----

Here is yesterday's food log:

Breakfast - Honey Comb's cereal w/skim milk, half of a small sugar-free vanilla skim latte
Lunch - Peanut butter sandwich, almonds, clementine
Snack - Broccoli, almonds
Dinner - 2 slices of pepperoni pizza
Snack - Chocolate!!!

I think I stayed within or somewhere around 1,500 calories so that is good! My workout yesterday was a one mile run on the track (shins hurting, of course) then I did my floor exercises after, and went back to the elliptical and did 20 minutes with highest incline and resistance of 8.

Today I'm going to stick around the house and try out my kettle bell workout DVD! I also purchased the Women'sHealth Big Book Of Exercises, so there are a lot of cool floor workouts that I'm going to try out as well! I want to start focusing more on my arms and my lower abs... I think my legs deserve a little break!

I had oatmeal and an egg w/cheese for breakfast. I will probably have a salad and a sandwich for lunch, fruit and almonds for snacks, and for dinner tonight chicken cordon blue with cheesy noodles... yummmmmmm! :drool5:

That's all for now!

When I first started jogging almost a year and a half ago, I got shin splints so bad that I could barely walk for 5 weeks!!! I'm not exaggerating. If I moved my foot up and down when I was sitting, you could audibly hear my muscles creaking. You could also feel the grinding if you set your hand on my shins.

I believe the reason I got shin splints so bad was (1) I was still over weight (229 lbs at the time), (2) my lower leg muscles hadn't seen the stress from running in over a decade and (3) I had old walking shoes that really weren't meant for jogging.

I had no choice but to stop running for almost 6 weeks. I continued to lose weight during that time and when I resumed I was down below 220. I also slowed down considerably and jogged shorter distances until I was confident my shins were capable of more stress. Within a few months I was jogging several times a week, two to three miles at a time, without getting shin splints.

I actually didn't buy running shoes until almost a year later. After buying the new shoes I was able to run 5 miles without getting shin splints.

Sarah, in your case you are definitely not too heavy so maybe you just overdid it with the distance and intensity. You may need to let your shins rest until they are fully recovered. Try biking or eliptical for a while. That is my suggestion.

I hate NOT running!!! AAHHH! But I know it's best to take it easy for a while. I actually do have new running shoes, and I made the switch the day I did my 7 mile run... but I didn't put my inserts into them SO, I put them in this morning and ran a mile on the treadmill... and it was a breeze! Maybe it was because I was on the treadmill instead of the track, or maybe it was because I put the inserts into my shoes, or maybe because I iced my shins the last two days.... whatever it was, I'm just glad I was able to run at such ease!

I wasn't going to run at all, but I did it to get my blood pumping. I ran 1 mile @ 6.5 mph and it was so easy! Easier than usual. I could have kept running but I didn't want to JUST incase to keep my shins from hurting. I did some exercises with the kettle bell (OMG I was doing these squats and I can feel already I'm going to be soo sore tomorrow!!!) so that was fun! I'm going to add some kettle bell exercises into my floor routine now. I ran up and down my stairs 10 times as well (down + up = 1 time)... did leg lifts, side bends, abs. It was nice :)

At noon, I ate a turkey sandwich and a banana for lunch. I left for work around 2, picked up a coffee on the way. I brought 2 clementines for a snack because I wouldn't be eating dinner til about 7:30. Well around 6 or so... I started to feel like I was about to pass out... just out of no where... I sat and put my head down and even went outside for fresh air. I'm thinking it was because of the caffeine mixed with really nothing solid to eat for 6 hours? So I bought a bag of twizzlers to just get some sugar in me... it helped a little... after dinner I still feel a little weird but idk... I didn't pass out so I guess that's the good thing.

Off work tomorrow... gonna sleep in (or at least try to!) and get to the gym at some point in the day :D

Goodnight,
~ Sarah

Just for fun :D

How Tall Are You?: 5'4.5" to be exact :)

How Much Do You Weigh?: Well, not sure of the actual number but I'm sure it's somewhere between 137-139 right now.

How Much Do You Wish You Weighed?: 125... I'll get there eventually!

Are You Currently Dieting?: Somewhat. I haven't been very strict about my "diet" recently but I'm getting back on track.

What Are Your 3 Target Weights?: Well... 135 - 130 - 125.

When Do You Hope To Get To You're Final Weight Goal? Somewhere around my spring break! (End of March).

Do You/Have You Ever Had An Eating Disorder?: No wayyy - I love food too much, haha.

What Size Pants Do You Wear?: 29 inch waist or a size 6.

What Size Do You Hope To Wear?: Fitting into a size 4 again would be great! (Haven't been in a 4 since.... 8th grade? Almost 6 years ago?)

Do You Play Any Sports?: No. I played softball for most of my childhood but quit my sophomore year of high school. I played tennis freshman year and royally sucked. I also joined the track team my junior year of high school, but quit within a month after deciding that going to McDonald's and Quizno's after school was better than running around a track and actually being healthy.

If So...What Kinds?: See previous answer.

Do You Idolize Others That Are Thinner?: Sometimes... if they have something that I don't, or they look a way that I wish to look. But if someone is thinner than me, I'm not going to idolize them for it. Some people are just naturally tiny. Doesn't mean they look AMAZING like they worked for it!!! Nothing to be jealous about :)

Do You Exercise Often?: At least 6 times a week!

What Types Of Exercise?: Running mostly... I always run and do floor exercises. Sometimes elliptical or bike if I'm at the gym. But mostly just running on the treadmill and using free weights... doing leg lifts and abs. Stuff like that.

How Many Calories Do You Eat A Day?: It varies. I should be having about 1,4500 but it's always different. Somewhere around there, though.

That was very informative! I will do the same in my dairy!

Ohhhh my goshhhhh.... I'm so sore from those damn kettle bell work outs yesterday! I think those squats killed me the most. I sat down on the toilet this morning and THAT hurt! Sheeeesh. I'm going to have to do a lot of stretching today. My arms don't hurt though - so I think today I will focus on my arms. And my abs... those don't hurt either :)

I got my period today... that's always fun! But I don't feel bloated and gross so that is good because I hate that feeling! I'm sure I will feel it later. I weighed myself out of curiosity and was 138.2... so if I do good up til Friday... I'll probably STILL be at 137 at least. It's okay though - after this week, it's hammer time and I think I'm ready to start seeing the numbers DROP! They have been at a stand still since The end of November! I yi yi!!!

No work today... so I've got the entire day to do whatever I want. I'm going to the mall today. My boyfriend bought me a ring 2 Christmas's ago and said I need to take it in to get it checked so the warranty is still good. Might as well do a little shopping too :) I'm sure there are really good sales right now anyway... it's about that time to get rid of all the winter stuff because the spring stuff is coming in soon!

I will update later on my food log for the day and whatever exercise I get in!
