I'm aiming for 59kg

Exercise: 11.30am Run 4km, walk 5km.
I took rather a long time. I ran into the centre of town. Then got distracted by lots of things, did some windowshopping. Walked back to the car via my friends house. She offered me tea but i only drank water because we were talking so much i forgot and time was running on. Anyway, i can say its rather nice, as well as handy to have all these nice things along the way. I well ready for lunch by the time i got home and so I didn’t want to take too much time preparing it.

3pm: Lunch
brown lentils, ratatouille and yoghurt with lemon juice

1 cup lentils - heated up
1 cup ratatouille - heated up
1/4 cup yoghurt
1/2 lemon

5pm: glass red wine

6.30pm: Dinner
1.5 cups Heinz Cream of chicken soup made with 1/2 can of full cream milk and half water.
1 cup Greek Potato and Beans recipe

1/2 kilo/1 pound potatoes, peeled and diced
3/4 kilo/over 1 pound green beans, topped and tailed and cut into 1 inch pieces
3 cloves garlic
1/2 onion
3 tsp olive oil
1 400g can of diced tomatoes.
3/4 cup chopped parsley
pinch salt

Saute the onion and garlic in the olive oil until almost transparent. Mix all ingredients together. Place in a baking dish and cook on a moderate heat in the oven for 45 or until the vegetables are done, stirring every 10-15 minutes.

At one point, i walked away from the kitchen and got a strong whiff of nutment. (One of the orchids must be in flower) and then i realised that nutmeg would be a lovely spice for this dish, but with a bit less garlic, perhaps.

I’ve adapted this recipe from one on the vegetable cooking club. I have no idea what to expect. ... but I shall let you know shortly. ....

Later:
It worked out well but i think it is the sort of vegetable dish that would go best with a meat of some sort ie, fish, chicken, steak etc.

I'd like to try it again with the nutmeg. I love nutmeg with potatoes.

That sounds like a really great exercise! I really like getting lost in a day. I feel like its so much easier to not worry about things when you are so active. So in 10 days you are leaving for 6 weeks and doing a running/biking event? If so WOW that must be hugely exciting for you!!

Miss Poodle (gawd I love your name!) why don't you join our vegetable cooking club in the Club section. Sunflower can't hold the fort alone while i am gone. We need more active members. For my part, even with only me and Sunny being regularly active, i am really enjoying our little club. I want it still to be going when i get back so that there are lots of new recipes for me to try. I like to try the recipes that others put forward because it might not be things i would think of or try if left to my own devices.

Tally, I'm going from 20 May to 20 July. I think its more like 8 weeks. At least i hope so because I will have to ride a lot more and faster every day if its only six and i am not sure i am up to that. Its just a bike ride, no running. I don't ride my bike around where i live because the roads are not safe. Its easier to walk and run. And besides i prefer it as an exercise. For me cycling is travelling. I adore travelling. I really try to encourage other people to take up cycle touring. Its the best sort of travel adventure. Did you see my link to my last aussie tour. I will put it up again. You go through the pics one by one from the beginning. They load very fast so its easy.

I did this tour in mid 2009. You can lose weight really easily on a bike tour too :D

Today's whoopee moment is now. My scales read 61kg (134.2) this morning. I really wasn't expecting that. If i stopped at this weight, i would not be unhappy. My silhouette is not bad. I just need to do some tummy strengthening exercises to regain the flatness. Muscle slackness has given me a bit of a pot but there's not much fat there. The problem is my bum and thighs. But i can even live with my thighs. Its really my arse. Its just so unperky. It still wouldn't be nice in a bikini. It never will be beautiful but i do want it a bit smaller thank you! A bit more normal. I like my face at this weight. I hope it doesn't get too much skinnier as it might be aging. My bust is ok now too. But I am willing to sacrifice bustiness for a smaller bum.

If only my fat were more proportionately spread around. *sigh* I guess i will just have to learn to be happy that perfection is an impossibility.

Thanks Trus. :)

I've just had a the yummiest lunch - will report later.

And i did manage to start my window cleaning before it. I cleaned 18 lourves. Only 320 to go lol Groan. I need an icon...brb :nopity:

May 12 Day 41 (on this site) + one month more

Weight: 61.kg
down 400g
Whoah look at that! :D I'm really chuffed. Six days ago i weighed 62.2kg!

7.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup full cream milk
1/2 cup low fat milk
1 pear
8.30am coffee w 1/2 cup milk

12: Lunch
Stirfried Asian greens with cellophane noodles and 2 steamed dim sims
1 cup fruit salad with 1/2 cup yoghurt

fruit includes: mandarine, pomegranate, sugar banana, grapes

Stir fry:
2 cups raw tatsoi (see link for picture and nutritional info)
1 cup cellophane noodles - soak for a couple of minutes in boiling water. Drain when taste test shows they are soft.
2 tsp sesame oil (even 1 tsp is enough oil)
2 tsp soy sauce
2 cloves garlic

Heat the oil in a hot wok. Turn off heat and add the garlic. Allow to cook one minute stirring a bit. Turn heat back on to high. Add the roughly chopped greens, add in the soy sauce. Toss frequently while cooking. When the greens are almost limp, add in the already softened noodles. Heat through whilst tossing.

Serve dim sims on top.

Tatsoi
Tatsoi is my favourite asian green. It’s pretty, has a fine flavour and is the closest thing to English spinach amongst asian greens. And its very pretty. I can even grow this easily in my climate though i bought this lot off my neighbour who grows hydroponic vegies.

I think i should have kept my yoghurt to 1/4 cup but it was a bit late when i thought of that. My fruit salad was delicious. So was my stirfry.

I’ve cleaned two more windows. There are still many to go. I don’t know why i am having such trouble getting out there to finish my irrigation installation. Its not that hard. I am just really lazy at the moment. I think i am have an addiction to this forum. I do get addicted to forums. I usually can be more moderate after a while. Its great when the net gets cut off for a short while as it motivates me to go and do something else. Well of course, i can’t stay sitting starting at a blank google page.

hahahah Thanks Fortyfour! I don't do any cooking right now, but I will lurk in over there and possibly contribute in the coming weeks. My schedule is opening up very soon.

WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT...YOU'RE LEAVING US?!?! FOR 2 MONTHS?!?! Do you have plans on coming back???????

Yes of course i am coming back. But there's no internet where i am going. I will keep a food diary while i am gone and will dump it all on you when i get back. :reddevil: (is that the right icon?)

At the start of this diary, i promised (for better or worse) to do this diary for a year. Come rain hail or shine but there's not much i can do when there's no net connection is there.

Amazing. 1.2kg downnnn? You must be thrilled.
I really admire your dedication.
You're gonna be super fit when you return from tour.

I don't think i am any less dedicated than you carrie. You are doing great also. (edit - i think mean any more, not any less...)

And thank you.

Guess what else. I did some irrigation installation after all and two more glass panels. So little time left to do all this stuff. I was able to turn on zone 2 of irrigation this afternoon. So that means my lovely white hibiscus plants have a chance of surviving my absence.

I tell you, there is nothing, i mean nothing cuter than baby ducklings. The newer the cuter. Mum takes them hunting for insects. They are passionfruit yellow and so tiny the grass is a forest for them. They have to climb over the grass and its not even my big grass. Baby chickens are also very cute but not as cute as ducklings. I love them so much i could burst. And mummy ducks are so beautiful. She walks slowly. She subtley ? tells them what to do "look there's the big bad monster human over there, quickly little ones hurry to safety" Actually this pains me because i am harmless but its lovely to see how subtly she communicates with her offspring. I love to watch them but mum prefers it if i am not around. But i have to stop by frequently because everyone else comes by and gobbles up the ducklings food and someone always knocks over the water and so on.

Anyway life is sweet on my little farm. :grouphug:

May 12 continued.

3pm: cup of nescafe w 1/3 cup milk

5pm: glass white wine

6.30pm: Dinner
Stir fried vegetables, rice and egg.

1 duck egg (probably about 100g) with a pinch of salt and a splash of milk or water and beaten
2 tsp sesame oil
2 cloves garlic
1/2 tsp grated ginger
Shallots, roughly chopped
1 carrot - finely julienned, diced or cut in thing rings.
tatsoi leaves, roughly chopped
1/2 cup cooked basmati rice
squeeze lemon - optional
chilli - optional

For those who may not know, when making fried rice, its important to use rice that has been cooked earlier and been kept in a fridge for a little while to dry it out so that it doesn’t go gluggy when you fry it up.

What i did tonight cause i almost forgot to cook the egg...

Heat the wok, add oil, heat, then turn off and add garlic and ginger. Cook one minute in the hot pan. Scoop out the ginger and garlic and pour out all the oil into a dish and set aside. Relight the stove and in the remaining oily coating, cook the egg, then remove from pan and put aside. Return the garlic, ginger and oil to the wok. Add the prepared vegetables. (You could do the carrots first because they take a bit longer, but i forgot). Add the soy sauce and toss till cooked on high heat. When the vegetables are cooked, add the rice. Heat through. Serve and give a squeeze of lemon if its on hand.

Exercise: none today.

May 12 Day 41 (on this site) + one month more

Weight: 61.kg
same

7.00am coffee w 1/2 cup milk

8.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup full cream milk
1/2 cup low fat milk
1 pear

I think i better go do my exercise now, this morning because i really want to get a lot of my irrigation work done this afternoon and i know that if I do my irrigation first, i won’t have energy left for running. I am starting to feel the endorphins from my running now. Gosh its a wonderful drug. They really make you feel good and happy. I think this happens once you get to a certain point of fitness, where you are not struggling to run. So yep, off i go to get on my boots. :auto:

...Back

Exercise: 6km running, 3km walking with a stop in the middle to try on some shoes at a shop in the town. Just as well i don't take my money to town. I didn't like the shoes so much in the end but there are some lovely cardis this year. The colours are a bit drab for our climate but they are still nice items.

12: Lunch
1 cup Greek potato and beans (as per recipe in #post number um...grrrrr ok, May 11) w 1 cup warm lentil salad*
1/4 cup yoghurt w garlic

Warm lentil salad
1 cup cooked lentils (I soaked and cooked a cup of dry brown lentils days ago and now i get to eat them for the rest of the week but i like them so that's ok.
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1 clove garlic
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
Warm it up in the microgroove along with the potatoes, then give a good squeeze of lemon over all and enjoy with garlic yoghurt.

Cooking note: this lentil salad is also yummy cold and eaten on a bed of fresh young rocket that's been tossed in the same dressing. Or not dressed, if you wish.

Many opportunities to practice Stacy. :D

I can still clearly remember my first attempt at weightloss. I was 14, at boarding school. My strategy at the time was running around the school oval of an afternoon and not overeating at mealtimes and not eating tuckshop and i probably gave up sunday lollies too. I lost weight. I can't remember why i stopped. I think i went on this diet because i had a boyfriend. My first.

I remember taking up smoking as a dieting strategy when i was about 15, though this was some time after i had had my first cigarette.

About that time, I did the Israeli Army diet which was to eat 2 days apples, 2 days cheese, 2 days milk and 2 days something else. i lost about half a stone - 7 pounds.

I wont go through the whole list of my experiences but it might clarify why i do things the way i do them today.

Once before i quit sugar as the centrepiece of my diet. That was in 2008. I think i lasted about 3 months. I can't remember how much weight i lost then. I had some serious depression and that was the end of that diet. But then i went to the doc and ended up back on antidepressants after two years off. So that helped clear up the depression. Up until the depression, triggered by external circumstances, i was doing well on my diet and had no trouble going without all my usual sweet favourites. What triggered the quitting sugar in the first place though was being in india where I couldn't get away from sugar because dessert was the only food i could bear to eat since almost everything else was full of chilli or something else that i couldn't stomach anymore. So i ate a lot of sweet stuff in india but out of desperation to eat anything. And that was upsetting for me at the time because as always on a bike ride, i had lost a lot of weight. By the end of the trip, with all the sweet stuff, i was rapidly putting it all back on. I remember deciding in the last few days of trip, while i was in Delhi that i would give up sugar. I immediately stopped having it in my tea and coffee and adjusted really fast.

I'm also doing good because my life nowadays is low stress. I am not good with stress. Stress situations usually lead me to depression. So i've got out of the rat race and can just focus on the simple things of life. It has taken me a long time to get to this point.
