I'm aiming for 59kg

April 24 Day 23

Weight: 62.4kg
800g down. On the move again and a nice surprise. :)

8.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
1 cup low fat milk
1 apple
Nescafe w 1/3 cup full cream milk
I enjoyed my breakfast a lot less than usual because of the low fat milk and since i did lose weight overnight this time, i figure i must still be losing weight afterall. But now i’ve 4litres of low fat milk to consume

10.30 Visited friend: had tea with 1/3 cup milk
1 five corner fruit/carambola (wouldn’t be many calories in this)

I visited another friend at the market. She’s on a diet too but was eating a spinach pastry when i arrived so i told her off. M. I said, how do you expect to lose weight if you are gonna eat stuff like this. “I’m not in a hurry” she said.

12.30: Lunch at home
Rollmop (pickled herring Dutch) in salad with bread
1/2 italian bread roll like yesterday
rocket and lettuce leaves
1 tomato
cucumber
1/2 grated carrot
1 rollmop
juice of half a lemon
2 tsp of olive oil
ground black pepper

5.15: Glass wine

6.30pm Dinner
India Aloo Gobi w one chia bread, lemon juice, coriander and 1/2 cup yoghurt
1 serve durian.

Exercise: didn’t go today. Pretty slack i know but i didn't want to go out again in the afternoon. I wanted to stay home and water my plants. I will go tomorrow.

This morning i went out to join up at the volunteer coastguard. It was a bunch of mostly older men, mostly overweight and quite a few smoking cigarettes as well. There's a couple of women, probably wives. There was a new younger guy and i think a couple of other new recruits have also signed up recently. I think it will be ok so I will see how it. I figure i want to be more involved in the local community and i have time. I don't know if this is the right organisation for me but i do like being out on the water and it would be my only way. I thought this morning, so long as I feel ok hanging out with these people, then i can continue. if i don't like them too much and feel a bit of an outsider, then i will probably not stay in it.

April 25 Day 24

Weight: 64.2kg
Up 1.6kg!! ... Its alright. Later on in the morning, i started my period. (how awful that i feel i have to mention it here). Anyway this is the reason for the massive overnight weight gain.

8.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
12 cup low fat milk
1/2 cup full cream mlk
1 apple
Nescafe w 1/3 cup full cream milk

12.30: Lunch
1 duck egg (equivalent to 2 small chook eggs), 2 pieces wholegrain toast, 6 small mushrooms fried in 2 tsp olive oil and with garlic, parsley, steamed green beans and 1/2 cup of yoghurt to go on top of the beans.
8 longans

I fried the mushrooms first for a few minutes and then shoved them out of the way for the egg and put the lid on. The mushrooms create some juices and so there’s enough in there for cooking the egg without adding more oil.

I don’t really enjoy steamed beans but with yoghurt on them, they are better. If i had time, i’d make a nice stewed bean dish. And if i had not already put garlic in my mushrooms, i would have put some in my yoghurt.

4pm. Walk and run

6.30pm Soup
1 Cup of homemade pumpkin soup. My father cooked it. This is what he did.

Cut up pumpkin and onions.
Cover with water and boil till cooked
Remove skin from pumpkin
Add some vegetable stock.
Put all in a blender and puree.

7pm: Glass wine

Exercise: 10 km circuit, with about 4km running. I decided I am bored with my other route and drove on a bit further to run in town. I walked 1km to warm up. Then ran to the end of the road which i think is about 4km. Then i walked over to the beach and walked back against the wind. It was a long way. But i ran into a friend and she’s invited me for dinner sometime soon. I got home in the dark, had a shower and as dad had the soup already made, i thought i’ll have some of that and then have the rest of dinner later.

Hey you. I need to find out what your name is. :)

So you weigh in EVERY day? How do you find that?

I love all your daily menus. They are so varied and delicious.
Oatmeal to start the day. My favourite.
Do you follow any recipe blogs or do you cook from like.. out of the air?

What is a longan?

Great diary. I can't wait to keep track of your progress.

8.15: Dinner
2 dim sims with steamed pak choy and leftover steamed cauliflower w 1tsp soy sauce.

Hi caffeine, My name is Andrea. Perhaps i should sign off each time. Yes its awkward not knowing people's names.

Yeah i weigh in every day. I like doing that. I am used to the scales going up and down. I can deal with it. I weigh first thing in the morning.

Thanks for the compliment. When i am not on a diet, i eat the same thing day in and day out and i never feel like cooking. So i just eat spaghetti with cheese and olive oil for dinner unless i have icecream and am too full to eat. I used to have a thing for tuna but i have stopped eating that now. I have always liked porridge and used to eat that even when not on a diet. Now that i have quit sugar i find i like the oats raw with a piece of fruit just as much. If it was cold, i'd probably have porridge. And I also like cooking.

No i don't follow a blog. Being an old thing, i've had plenty of years to learn how to cook. Mind you i had a few things to help get started in the right direction eg, cooking at school, a job as a cook once, a french boyfriend once. My mother was a good cook too. Now i use recipe books if i want to do something interesting that i don't know how. I've learnt how to put a meal together to make it work. Travel helps with that and probably also restaurant meals though i haven't eat out very much for most of my adult life. I ate out a lot as a kid though with my parents. Of all those i think my french boyfriend might have been the most useful. I really learnt about food from him. And i like cooking from recipes.

A longan is a tropical fruit a bit like a lychee but not as nice. I put a link next to it when i first mentioned it a few days back so that people could see what it looked like. It comes in bunches on a branch. The fruit is small and covered with a thin hard shell which is easy to break. Inside is a lot like a lychee. Its smaller than a lychee.

April 26 Day 25

Weight: 63.4kg
Down 800 grams again

8.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
12 cup low fat milk
1/2 cup full cream mlk
1 apple
Nescafe w 1/3 cup full cream milk

12.30: Lunch
Salad wrap with leftover aloo gobi

1 chia wrap
lettuce and rocket leaves
1 tomato
2 tbsp of aloo gobi (indian cauliflower and potato
1 tbsp yoghurt

1/2 serve of durian mixed up with the remainder of a half a cup of yoghurt.
The yoghurt helps dilute the durian which is good because its very rich.

5.30pm: Glass red wine

7pm: Dinner
100g spaghetti with 1/2 an aubergine and some fresh rocket leaves
1 cup dad’s pumpkin soup

To cook the aubergine, first i cut a large aubergine in half and put it flat side down under teh griller with the idea of blistering the skin ( as i was preparing some for baba ganoush)
Then with a half of one, i sliced it up, and sauteed it in 2tsp of olive oil with a couple of chopped cloves of garlic.
When it was well cooked, i tossed in the rocket leaves and swished it around a bit and then added it all to the pasta.
Sprinkle of ground black pepper.

* i was going to have felafals for dinner but at the last minute i felt more like eating pasta instead.

Exercise: None

Both of these represent a reduction from the last time i did it.

7.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
12 cup low fat milk
1/2 cup full cream mlk
1 apple

9.30am expresso w full cream 1/2 cup milk

12.30: Lunch
Felafal balls w salad - pretty good.
1/2 serve of durian w 1/2 cup yoghurt - yum!
Felafal recipe see vegetable cooking club recipe. The first ones i cooked in a bit of oil but they didn’t hold together, so i let them crumble into my salad and this was yummy. I deep fried the rest and drained them on paper towel as best i could to soak up excess oil.

The salad included, lettuce, rocket leaves, cucumber, slice of onion chopped up, lemon juice

I had a pretty good morning being active with starting to clean up the house - for which i have to a total clean before i go on holidays - and also working in the garden, mainly dragging hoses around for watering and then i fertilised everything so that’s just a lot of walking in all.

Day 26 cont

4.30 walk 10 km (or more even). It's a bloody long way this walk, I will have to measure the distance in my car.

No wine today. Too hungry after getting home from my walk which wasn't until about 6.30 anyway. I was conscious of eating a bit of protein in my dinner tonight, and although i wasn't hungry, some carbs too. Don't want my metabolism chewing up my muscles and anyway i know some tissues will need repairing after that walk. My feet are sore and my knees were starting to feel it by the end. It feels even harder to walk that whole distance than it is to run some of it, strangely. I think maybe when you run, your feet hit the pavement differently so they hurt less.

7.00pm Dinner
110g firm tofu fried in 1 tbsp vegetable oil and 1 tsp soysauce.
1/3 cup aloo gobi with 1/3 cup canned peas, coriander, lemon juice
2 small oranges

8.15pm Maybe I will have a 1/2 glass of red wine now.

woah a 10km walk? Amazing.
Your tofu dinner sounds delicious.
Hope you have a relaxing evening after all your hard work.

Hey! (You gave me some advice, now I'm gonna try and do the same.)
Really, you don't have to take this (obviously), but I used to weigh every day and I found that it was just making me feel awful when the weight hadn't shifted, or I'd gained weight-- even if the difference was tiny. You seem to be dealing with your gains very well and remain optimistic, which is more than I can say for myself, but I think you'd get more accurate results if you weighed less. Maybe every week or, if the suspense kills you, every few days?
Like I said, if you're fine with the way you're doing it, carry on :)

Thanks for the advice fff. I'm not bothered much by what the scales do so long as they ultimately keep going down. I've lived with scales long enough to figure out what it means. This morning they've gone down as i expected too. I am getting so good with the scales that i can practically predict them now. LOL.

But just yesterday i was thinking, even if they don't go down during the next month, i know i will lose probably all the weight i want on my cycling tour. For that reason, i am not particularly bothered about reducing my food intake at this point. That's one good thing about not having a weight loss deadline.

I think the suspense of not looking every day would be worse for me. And i also think that what if you only check once a week and they don't go down. How terrible that must be. No, i'm pretty happy with most aspects of my strategy but i am always willing to hear other ideas and perspectives.

On the down side, I am not happy with what's going on with my face. All the sun tanning i did in my youth has left me with skin looseness in my face and being so slim is going to really make it hard looking in the mirror. I look all right so long as i am talking or smiling but otherwise, sheesh i'm looking old. So i am going to have a very young body with a very old face. I wish i had the money for a facelift.

So if anyone out there reading this is a sun lover, think twice about it. Too much sun is terribly aging.

Little chickens

Whoopee. I"ve got three new little baby chickens. These are the first i've had this small, and hatched here on my mini farm. There are three more eggs to go, i hope they do. And this is the first batch for this mother hen. How exciting. I love having baby things around. I only took up with the chickens and ducks last year. They are such a delight. Highly recommended.

April 28 Day 27

Weight: 62.8kg
Down 600g

7.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
12 cup low fat milk
1/2 cup full cream mlk
1 apple

9.30am expresso w full cream 1/2 cup milk

12.30: Lunch
Felafal balls in a salad wrap
4 prunes

1 chia wrap
lettuce and rocket leaves
2 felafal balls heated in microwave
1 slice red onion
cucumber
some eggplant cooked a bit more in the frypan with 1 tsp olive oil and 1 clove garlic
(i did most of the cooking of this eggplant the other when i put it under the griller to make the skin blister. I just haven’t got around to finish off putting them in a recipe)

4.30pm: Glass red wine

7pm: Dinner
Grilled Atlantic salmon with fried rice - totally delicious!

I”ve never done salmon under the grill before. I think its a great way to cook it. I didn’t put anything on it. It took 15 minutes.

1/2 cup coooked basmati rice
1/2 cup grated carrot
1 tsp sesame oil
1 clove garlic
1/2 tsp soy sauce

Heat the oil, turn off the heat, add the garlic and saute about 1 minute. Return to the heat, add rice and carrot and cook. When its heated through, add in the soy sauce and cook longer. Put a lid on if necessary to get the rice well cooked through. This worked out really well tonight. Yum!

Exercise: None

44, Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you're beautiful. Sure you don't look 20 any more but all the marks on your face tell a story of your life and how far you've come and all that you've experienced.

I think i need to take heed of your be sun-aware warning. My mum is 52 and she looks amazing. She stays out of the sun.

Your food always sounds incredible.
I want to try one of those falafel wraps.

Thanks caffeine. I know in some respects i look bettter than i did before i lost weight so its ok. I am just not sure yet if going down to 55kg is going to be tooooo aging. I'll find out. Here's some pictures of my older sister at the weight i am aiming for. We don't look alike at all but we have the same body shape. So my body will look a lot like hers. She's got an amazing body because she does a lot of sport - swimming, triathlon. She's quite pretty too. She won't mind me showing this. The page below is public.

I can't find any pictures of me that show me looking fat recently. I tend to delete all the disgusting ones. So all i've got is me far away and covered up in lots of clothes and stuff.

heyy forty its me :) ! lol your doing so awesome with getting closer to your goal. I didn't realize we have the same goal weight, how cool! Its great to see you are on track for getting to your goal plus helping others on the forum as well. And Im sure you look great, face included and even when you reach your goal Im sure your face wont look as old as you think. We judge ourselves way too harshly! Im a pharmacy technician at a drug/ convenience store and we sell a lot of rejuvenating face products and some people have reported great results with them. Or maybe you could see a dermatologist? I used to have breakouts on my face and once I started going to the dermatologist she prescribed face products for me that worked wonders that no other over the counter product ever had! take care and keep up the good work ok?

April 29 Day 28

Weight: 63.4kg
I forgot to weigh myself when i got up this morning. This weight is after breakfast, so of course its up. Though i think it might have been anyway.

7.30 am Breakfast
1/2 cup oats
12 cup low fat milk
1/2 cup full cream mlk
1 apple

8.00am expresso w full cream 1/2 cup milk

11.30: Lunch in town
1 apple
Sushi at the Sushi Train

1 small bowl of miso soup
1 plate w 5 pieces sashimi - salmon and tuna
1 plate w 3 pieces sushi with avo and salmon
1 plate w 2 pieces sushi w salad only. - (not recommended)
wasabi and soy sauce

I was very pleased with my degree of restraint. It’s easy to sit there and continue eating plate after i’ve plate. I was tempted too but thought this amount of food should be enough and with my coffee it lasted me fine right up until I got home and could have my glass of wine. And i ate nothing deep fried or with gooey sauce on it.

2pm: cappucino

5pm: 1/2 Glass red wine

I"ve had a good day in town today doing exciting chores. Well one chore is a bit exciting for me - getting my irrigation stuff for my garden. But while there i decided to have a look for some running clothes. When i get really skinny, i'm gonna buy myself some skimpy little shorts and stuff so i can look as cute as everyone else when they run around the joint. I went into a sports wear designer shop - lorna someone. There were some below the knee tights that people were in the gym. I thought that sort of thing could be good for me on the bike. I've got bike shorts but i don't like them and i would like something to cover more of my legs for sun protection. Anyhow, i tried on a couple of pairs, and guess what! I recognised that i've got quite a long way to go before i look great in tight gear. There's nothing like a boutique's fitting room to make you realise you are still fat. Oddly enough i wasn't depressed about it. I just realised that i've got to keep plugging on. It's sillly but sometimes i kid myself that i actually have a great figure right now. (Ok not exactly great but you know, looking all right!). But that's only because my bathroom mirror doesn't show my legs and arse. lol. (my worst bits). My waist and arms are looking much much better though my boobs are starting to disappear. I know they will go almost completely by the time i am 55kg but who cares. I want nice legs and no big bum left. And not a fat face either. Anyway while i was in the shopping centre, i was thinking how nice it will be to be able to wear whatever i want when i am skinny cause then every single damn item of clothing looks good, believe you me, whatever little flaws you still have, clothes look good on skinny people. Sad to say but its true.

And i might add that although i didn't look at any cakes today, I did have some little twinges of regret that i couldn't eat whatever i wanted. During my fat days, i'd have a strawberry milkshake, and then i might go and have some icecream in a cone. (I a total glutton for icecream). And once i my sweet tooth gets started it doesn't really stop till i get home and i'm so full of food that i don't have any room left for dinner, let alone any appetite. But those days are over and I am going to enjoy being my skinny self-controlled self. It has another advantage, apart from skinniness. I save lots of money.

Well i am happy today. Everything is going good. I"m really pleased with my irrigation shopping. I can't wait to set that up tomorrow.

No idea what's for dinner tonight but i went shopping at Rusty's Bazaar today. Its the vegetable market. I like shopping there but haven't done it for ages. I bought a pomegranate (YUM) and tomatoes, red capsicums and something else, i can't remember. Oh an avocado for 40cents. They are really cheap at the moment. We grow them around here hence the low price at the moment.

Thanks for coming by think pos. We do judge ourselves harshly. I consider myself fairly objective. I am not too depressed about my appearance though so i think its ok.

I worked at a big cosmetic clinic in sydney for a few months. I learnt a lot about face products, and plastic surgery. In the end i decided the only cream that works, i mean really work - is sunscreen. Plastic surgery works and so do face peels if you have them done by a doctor. I did a year long test using retin A which is a cream all the doctors used also. I put it daily on one arm and hand and not on the other. Absolutely no results. Even the dermatologists prescribe this stuff. If you can't see a change after one year i can't see that's its worth the money.

Moisturisers are nice. They make your skin feel better while you have it on but they don't actually do anything permanent. Nor do any other creams. If you want a cream to puff out your skin by hydrating it, that's good for the effect but it doesn't actually have a deep effect.

That said, I'm not talking about any creams that might help with acne. I think though that the best things for more acne is water and fresh fruit and veg.

When i worked at the cosmetic clinic, i had a TCA peel which is so strong, wow! It can only be done by a doctor. Its 50% acid i think. But great result. Since laser skin rejuvenation has come in, no one does TCA's anymore but i prefer the results. Its more natural.

But none of these things can restore elasticity to your skin. Once its gone, its gone for good. Hence the importance of a hat, sunscreen, not smoking and not over indulging in alcohol.

Mmm I'm a glutton for ice cream too.
Woah i just realised how close you are to your goal.
How much have you lost in total?
