Icychic's Weightloss Diary

Idea: For every 30mins I work out I get 1 hour free time to watch TV or play games. So if I don't workout, I cannot watch TV or play on the computer, I must be either cooking or cleaning or doing other housework. Period. Maybe that too will help me get up and going and if my FBIL is in the basement then I can be in the room with the door closed and do things like push ups and situps and weights, things that won't cause me to make the TV fall off the dresser LOL. Or alternatively I can do the free run thing on the Wii and watch TV WHILE I'm exercising and that would be a way to "cheat" and get 1.5 hrs free time for 30mins of exercise. Yes, I think that sounds good. And no, laundry and cleaning will NOT count towards exercise, it just means if I don't want to exercise at least I can be productive around the house in other ways.

little_star: I'm getting excited for our challenge :) Thinking to benefit others as well once we decide on what we will be doing we can post it in the "Club Challenges" section so we can have others join us too?

Well of COURSE today is the first day in a while that FBIL decides to not spend a few hours in the garage smoking before coming into the house...:banghead: :cuss:

Challenge accepted! I have done dishes and am waiting on ground beef to defrost so I can make dinner. Until then I will turn the TV on in the room, close the door, and do some exercises that do not require any type of jumping or movements that will cause dressers and TV's to rock.

And lovely...looks like A's truck needs to be taken in and it could be pricey. This truck has cost us WAY too much money. He thinks it's a loose hose or possible cracked rad line...sucks balls! He may be stuck with all season tires instead of getting winters...it's a RW pickup and could use winter tires in the winter for extra traction but what can ya do. :( Time to find a mechanic who hopefully will not rip us off!

Hey, any exercise is better than no exercise. If you can't exercise in the house can you go for a walk or a bike ride after work? I always find results happen waaay faster with exercise. Not necessarily on the scale but visually and fitting into clothes, which is what really counts right?

Haha I'm always awake at 6am, not because I mean to but that's just when I wake up. Maybe if you make a habit out of it you'll be a morning person one of these days too!

luzdafuzz: you're right, any exercise is better than none. Yesterday was crappy out and raining so didn't wanna be outside. And yes looking better and fitting into clothes is ultimately the most important thing I'm going for.

I am awake and even out of bed early, like today it was about 430. But A was still in bed so I go back to bed too cuz I'm still tired. then I end up not getting up until just enough time to get ready for work.

Today I need to be up early though and call a mechanic. will be late for work cuz I found good reviews for a place downtown but they open at 730, will take 15 mins to get there and an hour by bus to get to work :( but oh well. I just hope they can fix it by the morning and that it won't cost a fortune! just over 2 hrs and will give them a call. 10 mins and I will get up and try a workout.

You can do it Icy.....C mon ......starting out is the hardest.....if you can kick youself in the behind for the next 14 days then it should be an habit.....on days the threadmill just isn't appealing I close my bedroom door and put on my headphones and dance.....I don't have much space but it give you a workout...no need to be a great dancer just move to the beat after 20 - 30 min you will see you worked up a sweat!!!!

FAIL!

Yeah so I ended up looking up HRMs and auto mechanics and checking Facebook and something else I'm not sure what LOL. Got up in time to shower and call the mechanic who can't take the truck until Tuesday :( So I drove it to work today, it seems to drive fine but check engine light is on and something is up with it, I dunno. Tomorrow A is off (helping his best friend with wedding setup) so he can drive me to/from in my car (I drive a whole 7km to work in like 10-15mins compared to his 30-60min drive of about 15km so easier for me to take the truck when it's acting up, plus if needed I can bus. And also I can generally leave work to take the truck places like a mechanic where he can't...just some info for those wondering why the lady would take the eff'd up truck instead of the man who has some idea of mechanics LOL). Anyways, Monday I will either take truck, bus, or have him drive me super early (like 2.5hrs before I need to be here GAH) but yeah. At that point I was showered and dressed and wasn't gonna do a workout so that's that.

(Side note...I think I've been on the computer too much...not sure if its the start of carpal tunnel or just random pain but my right wrist is acting up again and hurting so I just had to put my wrist brace on. Usually after a few days of wearing it my wrist feels better. Can still type decently quick though :))

It has been kinda quiet at work, and while there is lots I should be doing I don' feel like it so I may just sneak out early and forward the phone. Thinking 2 hours early, about 3pm if it's still quiet. Go buy a mat, go home and workout, possibly shower and get ready to head to my moms for dinner. I just feel so useless at work right now cuz I could be doing so much at home!

Getting chest pains again though, really should figure out what those are all about...but last time the docs couldn't figure anything out. *shrug* I'm sure its due to being in bad shape and not exercising or drinking enough water.

Didn't end up leaving work early or working out tonight. Was supposed to go to my mom's for dinner but A was super tired he said and didn't want to go. Ended up online helping him through a dungeon :(

But I picked up the Fitbit Flex after work today. Interested in seeing what it says for my sleep tonight, and what my activity level is throughout the day. Have rehersal dinner tomorrow so unless I wake up early (which I hope to) and get a workout in I probably won't.

Debating taking the truck to work so I can pick up a yoga mat at lunch and perhaps start workouts during the last bit of work, or staying late to do it before heading home and being lazy. Seems once I get home all bets are off and there is always an excuse not to workout.

Hello Icychic, I read your diary in the morning (I may miss some details, is 12:00 Am here). Here are some thoughts:

For some reason, when I used to play video-games, I couldn't eat healthy. I don't even know why, but I just couldn't maintain a healthy-eating if I played video-games. I was also very easily distracted since I was constantly thinking about games. I had to eventually (I stopped playing for a while and then started again) delete them all since I was becoming careless and I was started to neglect things. However, I have always been somewhat extremist when it comes to certain things. I'm not suggesting that you do the same, but I wanted to share that reflection.

As for exercise, can you workout on your bedroom? I do that (It is not ideal, but I can't stand the thought of anyone seeing my working out), it doesn't require too much space. You can try bodyweight exercises (I.e: Squats, lunges, push-ups). You can try intervals or pyramidal schemes (E.g: If you are doing squats and push-ups, you do 1 squat followed by 1 push-ups, then you do 2 squats followed by two push-ups, etc. Until you need to rest). If you have a bit more space, you can try shadow-boxing.

I would link to examples, but I don't want to post videos in your diary. I hope you get the idea.

Good luck. :)

Yup, video games are a time-suck and it's tough to get motivated once you're home and comfortable. At least you know yourself well enough to realize that! Everyone has their "thing"/"trigger" that keeps 'em from working out or eating well.

Perhaps you can incorporate some of the wii-fit type gaming into your routine? I think you're onto something with the yoga mat. Finding 10 minutes here & there throughout the day can easily add up to a half hour workout. Keep thinking on what you can do to achieve your fitness goals. :)

Athala: MMORPGs can be highly addictive It's one of the reasons I broke up with one of my exs, he had no time for me unless it was playing the game. I will admit there have been days I've played all day and not realized I hadn't eaten but not since this last time that we've gotten back on it. It's not bad right now, if I snack while playing it's on fruit or air popped popcorn. But yes I think I used to eat badly cuz I was always in search of quick meals so I'd have more time to play. It also aides my procrastination of cleaning and stuff. But thank you for mentioning it because I should definitely watch myself.

I can and have worked out in my room and can kick A out and close the door but not much space to work with and can't jump around. I too hate people watching me, even them knowing I'm working out I don't care for but I have to get over that. There is still lots I can do with the space I have. Sadly while I can do a few push ups, I'm sticking to crunches over the sit ups.

Bellyoff: I should clarify. The game I play is on the computer, it's World if Warcraft which you may or may not have heard of. We have a guild in there that are casual fun players but it's great to get online and chat and kill stuff etc. But I have a Wii and Kinect that I need to use more. Biggest problem is it is in the basement with the big tv, hdpvr and the only other tv is in our room. I have a plan to change this but it will be a while before we put it into place and make the basement a full workout space only. It is why I need to wake up and workout out in the morning before having to leave for work and before FBIL wakes up.

On that note I think I mentioned I got the Fitbit flex yesterday. Sleep: 6hr 9min between 9:37 & 4:21. initially I wasnt really asleep cuz the dog needed some attention and was being restless but after that it shows 2 places in the middle where I was restless and 2 larger places closer to when I woke up where I was restless. Interesting...

So far today 72 steps just dealing with the dog. But it's now 6am and I'm gonna get up and weigh myself and workout instead of going back to sleep. Hopefully this will get me sleeping earlier and waking up earlier and more refreshed.

Here goes nothing! :hurray:

Logged 40mins on the Wii but only 24 on my Fitbit. I did 30mins of free run while watching New Girl but got tired and my knees and legs hurt a bit so walked some and did some twists instead too. Not sure if the boxing logged on it either but that's ok, means I need to work harder to make my goals. On the bright side I'm still at 143 according to my scale and the Wii and even though I hadn't been on for I think 24 days I lost my 4lb goal that I had set which made me feel great. Set another 4lb goal for 2 weeks. It seems the Kinect is not hooked up so I will need to set that up soon.

Hey !!!! Well look who is up and working out!!!!! Congrats on the first step.....I keep wanting to get up early to work out but my kids have a six sence the moment my toes touch the floor they spring out of bed....even if it is like 4 am and I am just going on a washroom run......Great job.....I have to start doing my workouts in the am cause when I go back to work that is the only time I will have!

It is kind of a good thing that Winter keeps waking up so early to go out. It's frustrating as hell but good. I just need to keep doing like I did today. I was online on my phone in bed, but once I caught up on FB and on here I got up, weighed myself, changed and went to the basement. It was still pretty early, and since A didn't work today he was not yet up, and FBIL doesn't tend to get out of bed until closer to 7:30. So I figure if I am down by about 6 (which is when A leaves for work anyways) that gives me lots of time to workout, shower, and maybe even get some online time or cleaning or laundry or breakfast done. Or even time to do something with my hair like blow dry and straighten it. I don't care much about my hair lately cuz nobody ever comes into the office, but I need to start. And I need to start dressing better because I am going to be applying for new jobs and want to be able to say "yes I can come for an interview today at 12:30" without worrying about the fact that I do not look professional. Just need to keep a set of workout clothes & runners, and possibly a pair of jeans at the office for when I am working out or setting up displays.

I am proud of myself though for working out this morning and it did feel good and productive. And I have lots of shows on the PVR that I never get to watch so this will give me a chance to do a free run on the Wii while watching my show when nobody else will bother me. Just gotta keep the gate up for other workouts or Winter will get in the way and I'll end up injured .

Good job on the work out and you should feel proud of yourself!!!! My dog figured out that if he throws a toy on the front of the threadmill it will be spit out the back so I have to keep an eye on that and jump over the toys....it's like I am walking/ running in an obstacle field......Go you can do it again!!!!

Ended up vacuuming the car yesterday afternoon and wiping it down inside. It's not leather and we have a dog with lots of hair who sheds... major arm workout! Took a good 30-60 mins i think. Went out for dinner and while I'd thought of ordering a salad for a burger instead so I didn't have to answer 20 questions about why I was eating just a salad.

Been awake about an hour but still super tired so gonna go back to sleep. Will do some vacuuming and house cleaning when I wake up before showing and getting ready for the weekend. It's only 6:30 So still lots of time to do things before leaving for the wedding around 3. Will also try setting up the Kinect and see what games I have for that.

Weddings are great but they also suck.

But first I will post about my Fitbit Flex. So far it's pretty cool! I may lend it to A for a night though to see what his sleeping pattern is like. It's a really cool feature even if it may not be 100% accurate. I got it on Thursday after work so that day doesn't count LOL. Friday: Did 9899 steps, burned 2353 cals, active for 1hr (from running and vacuuming I think). I believe all the walking was because we went for the family dinner for his best friends wedding so we were out and about more. Then yesterday 7410 steps (which somehow I don't believe because that was the day of the wedding and I went to the mall to buy a new jacket that would look good with my dress, and then the wedding itself there was a lot of walking. Wondering if the heels I was wearing made me walk differently and the Fitbit didn't catch all my steps?) Oh well...2056cals (target is 2240 so 92%) and a whole 6mins of being very active (not sure from what but I assume the vacuuming/mopping I did for about 30mins). All in all I think it's pretty cool! And seeing it all on a screen laid out is very cool and makes me want to work harder to make everything light up green :)

Now for the wedding...It was a beautiful wedding and gorgeous outside and A even got teary eyed it was so sweet and really made me want to get married sooner! We have been together about 5.5yrs, know each other for about 17yrs and been engaged around 4.5. Well Friday night we set a year, :hurray: 2015. BUT I'm thinking possibly next year, MAYBE, if we can get the money and planning done. I want to start planning, like getting a proper list together of who we definitely want and who we would like there if we can afford more people. Then I want to talk to his BF who just got married yesterday and find out their costs. The venue was gorgeous and the decorations were minimal but really pretty and exactly the type of thing I want to do. The food was decent for the most part but don't think I would use their caterer.

Got a pretty decent picture of us but what I see in pictures is not what I feel I look like and I want what I feel I look like to match what everyone else sees. I did not eat great, had 2 cups cakes, a rum and coke, glass of wine, and a can of 7-up and not near enough water. But that's OK because it was a wedding. I think the next time I will be drinking or eating badly will be New Years and I want to have people over. I will probably be drinking but will try to bring some healthy snacks out like my air popped popcorn and veggies. Will maybe just have everyone bring 1 dish/snack and whatever alcohol they wish to drink. I may buy a bottle of something for shots, like butterripple schnapps cuz it is DELICIOUS! I possibly might be bad and make a cheesecake cuz I love my cheesecake and apparently everyone else does too, but perhaps I will see if there is a way to make it less bad for us without killing the taste. For starters: I will eat it with little to no topping...

I just need to keep remembering my goal and that I have no more time to lose, must eat well and drink lots of water every day and take things one day at a time. 14 weeks is a long time, and if I focus on that I will get discouraged so one week and one day at a time is the way I must do it. I'm scared to weight myself this morning and since I did on Friday I don't think I will bother today.

My goal: In order to reach by goal of 115 lbs by the end of the year I now MUST lose 2lbs/week so I can no longer mess around. While I still am not sure if 115 is too low, that is still my goal. And if I find before I hit it that I look and feel great then I will take the remaining time to tone up more, but right now 115 is still my goal. I have 14 weeks to lose 28lbs and that JUST BARELY (Dec 28th) meets my goal of the end of the year. I am not happy with myself and my progress so far, but I am still going and plan to push myself harder, not let myself fall and give up because it's too hard.

Because of all the sugary stuff last night I don't feel up to a workout yet this morning, but hopefully later on today I will do something. And like I did on Friday I plan to wake up early during the week and do SOMETHING, even if it's a 20-30min free run on the Wii while I watch a taped show. I hope to setup the Kinect later though and perhaps play something on there. Can't even remember everything we have but will find one I want to try again. Still debating on buying on of them dance games, like Dance Central or Just Dance. Still not sure which ones better but I would probably want to take a look at the top songs and see which one has ones I would like to dance to.

Hey it is good you allow yourself treats and you don't beat yourself up.....I want to get the zumba for kinnect.....I am trying to find it used Zumba is a great workout and so much fun!

Feeling super crappy today. Weighed myself this morning and was 145, but that was with clothes on including Jeans, a heavy belt and a sweater so it's probably about right. But I just feel like I look fat today! I dunno if it's just the clothes or if something else is up but it sucks. And on top of that it was cold out this morning and I had to take the truck to the shop and take transit which was packed and sucked. So far today I had Honey Nut Cheerios this morning and Hot Chocolate (1% milk and the marshmallow hot chocolate mix) and then another hot chocolate (this time with just water) and an apple.

I have no idea what I will be making for dinner but hopefully can think of something healthy. I do need to go to the store, but since I may end up walking there (it's really not that far, maybe 5-10min walk which will do me good) I don't want to get too much stuff and have to lug it all back home.

I really do feel horrible today though. If I had my car I would definitely be leaving and going home and possibly attempting a workout if FBIL isn't home. Really need to setup the Kinect, at least then it can look and feel like I'm playing games more than working out and perhaps I won't be has self conscious if someone sees me.
