How to make this forum better?

I cannot help but notice that there is a "rating" column - which sometimes attributes little stars to threads.

Please confirm how this "rating" is influenced. I have never been aware of an opportunity to rate a thread.

I cannot help but notice that a number of threads sport a vast parade of little stars. I feel sure that if it was an archaeic remnant from out of date functionality (as is implied in earlier postings in this thread) the rating column and the little stars that I keep seeing would have been removed.

The fact is that I note that diaries exist with 2 replies and 5 stars. In comparison - my own diary (which is far from exceptional although some people have been kind enough to say it is inspirational) has never had any stars whilst having 2,478 replies.

My honest answer on the ratings of threads... and personal rant :D

It's an idiotic tool that comes with the forum and should be disabled because it feeds into the clique/high school mindset that's way too prevelant. (i've lobbied to get it removed but haven't gotten anywhere but i'm not giving up on it)

People can rate any threads they want to - from 1 - 5 stars -and I THINK that the ratings don't show up until you've got at least 5 people rating you - then it takes the average.

you don't know who has rated you -and i've seen some childish behavior where people will give a low rating to drive down the person's average...

Is there a way to stop the forum from logging/timing me out? There have been times where I was just taking a long time to write all my thoughts or had to step away from the comp and I'm timed out.

More vibrant colors. To be honest, I find the colors of this forum dreary and almost depressing. The whole monotone, solid blueish gray color is really boring.

I have seen other vBulletin forums give options to the users to change the color scheme of the forum.
Steve, Remember LV? His forum had 3 or 4 color profiles you could choose from.

Why can't this one have something similar?

I totally concur about the colors. Blue is not an upbeat color at all. And sometimes I really just can't stand to peruse the forum when everything is in shades of blue. It's not very cheery:(

If you don't like blue, you're going to hate my forum. Nothing bright about it. But that's our company's colors and it would be strange to make the forum's colors opposite of the main websites.

Although I suppose giving our members the ability to change 'skins' is a good idea. I'll have to look into that.

the downside to setting up skins, is that any tweak you make to one - like logos and stuff -you havet o make to all the skins and hope that they match..

It's not hard to do -it's just time consuming...

Haha - I do generally like darker colors. As John Wayne said it, "“If everything isn't black and white, I say, "Why the hell not?"
After a while, however, it becomes very mundane and old. Changeable skins is the way to go, Steve.

So...Hurry up and get started!

I'm sure most everyone in the forum would enjoy the ability to personalize the forum a bit.

Maybe down the road. I doubt it will open with that feature. There's just too many other pressing things to get done. But I do like the idea. It's a never-ending work in progress.

Hahaha, that's going to be a looonnnnggg ass list. I'm helpless when it comes to it. Not really though, I've learned quite a bit. But I couldn't have done what I did so far without the help of many. Many from right here on this forum.
