For me the gym is not a place to socialize. That's my getaway. That's my time, me and the weights, or the bike, or whatever it is, and that's it. I talk to no one :)

Same here, I say hi to the trainers but I'd never want to socialize in the gym

Damn, that's a lot.

I usually average 30-40 minutes 3x a week during weight training since I've been doing mostly fat loss programs. Cardio usually 2-3x a week goes anywhere from 25-60 minutes depending on type, so on average, between 3 and 4 hours I 'd guess.

not really. An hour of lifting 30 minutes of cardio. granted I do just one day of cardio only (my day "off") but really doesn't seem that much. I'm an at home mom too, so if I manage my time right, I can do it without it interfering with daily chores.....:)

Does it matter how long you go for? Arent the results the most important thing?

Yes, pretty much.

So you're lifting for an hour a day, doing cardio 30 minutes afterwards, and are doing this 7 days a week. Let me repeat that. An hour of lifting a day, every single day, with no rest. Plus cardio. You don't think that's a lot?

3 days then one day of cardio only, then 3 days and again one day of cardio only. But honestly it isn't that much :) I work out with my husband so we take turns I do a set, he does a set....It takes a bit longer to get your workout done this way. And we are doing a 3 day split. The only thing I do everyday is cardio.

every now and then I'll take a complete day off, no weights or cardio. I enjoy my time in the gym, it's one of the few moments during the day I get to give myself my full attention :)

Right now it's cardio only till I am cleared to use weights, and then I was told I have to start with *very low* weights.

Yeah, still ridiculous. Your body needs rest. It's craving rest right now :D

Sorry maybe my point was not clear. My point is that time is not the important factor here, what is important is that you get the results.

Gee some people seem to be over training big time.

YOUR BODIES NEED AND DESERVE REST PEOPLE!!!!!

3 - 4 of solid gym time

I work out 3 -4 hours per week of solid weight lifting gym time. No hanging at the smoothy bar or waiting on someone else'es set. I am very fortunate in that I live on the outskirts of town in an affluent area. We don't have to wait for equipment as our membership dues are high and membership population is low.

This being said I also mountain bike to and from the gym, ride the trails at the US National White Water Center weekly and run with my wife. Oh and mounting the wife whenever she lets me or looks the other direction long enough for me to take advantage of her. Hey, sex burns calories.

Maybe you should have entitled the poll, "how many hours a week do you spend doing physical activity".

LOL, my life doesn't make an allocation for "rest". I am always doing something, so it might as well be something for me.....:D

Besides an hour of cardio a day isn't anything. I use to jog 10 miles a day!

Don't get your panties in a bunch, 7 hours a week isn't close to over-training. You are over-reacting IMO. It takes lots more than 7 hours of training to over-train.

How do you like those trails? I ride Beatty Park near Matthews a lot and Springs Greenway but have not been out there. Do you have to pay to park out there?

Weights = 4 hours per week

running / cycling 4 hours per week

coaching football = 2 hours per week. Yes thats a cardio workout. LOL

So you are a local. I thought I was the one of the few from the USA, much less the greater Charlotte region. The USNWC cost $30 for a years membership. It basically covers parking fees. Riding the trails is a free sport they offer. They make their money on the excellent beers and other sporting events.

The trails out there are excellent and range from mild to severe. They also have real deal climbing walls (I'd guess in excess of 50') and all sorts of great outdoor activities. They do concerts there every Thursday evening which are just perfect if you have children.

Here is the website which does the facility no justice. It is in my top five favorite places in the Carolinas. Luckily its also 5 minutes from my house.

Thanks. I have visited out there just not done much. As for being a local.......all my life except the college years and my wife too.
