Well I don't have any published scientific documentation to back up what I am about to say, all I have are my bp readings.
When I drink alot of water, my bp tends to stabilize and remain in the prehypertension stage 139/89 or lower, if I drink alot of water and watch my salt, it goes below 120/80. I also tend to feel full a little bit longer and don't feel so 'wasted'.
So no, I don't know the actual biochemical advantages, all I know is what it does by the measurements I use. So if drinking alot of water ONLY stabilizes my bp, then that in itself is enough of a reason for me to drink it.
ps. when I am lax on the water and diet, bp shoots to 140/90+, but the minute I'm back to water, goes right back down.
okay, thats my 5 cents worth.
