Here we go! A diary for 'the last 20'!!

I totally know what you mean about having a 'sabateur', I am a freshman in college and before I left for college I weighed about 190 lbs, and I'm 5'6", so I was very overweight. I had been trying to lose weight for about 2 years. However, I found that my mom actually made it a lot more difficult for me to stick to a diet. I would be motivated and really making an effort but she would always ask if I wanted to go out to eat or order pizza, neither of us have healthy eating habits at all, they're awful actually. I'm glad to hear you're making an effort to show your kids good eating habits! Not that my mom did it on purpose but she actually caused me to gain weight and made it very hard to take it off due to her constant temptations even though she knew I was on a diet and she knew how badly I wanted to lose weight. I think it has a lot to do with respect, she wasn't respecting the fact that I was trying to do something healthy for my body and just wanted a partner to eat bad food with so she wouldn't feel as guilty, maybe you should sit your husband down and just say I know that you like to eat fast food sometimes but I'm really trying to do something healthy for me and to set a positive example for our kids and it would be great if you could respect that, if you want mcdonalds thats fine but try not to include me in your decision. That's what I did with my mom and she realized how much she was tempting me all the time so she changed how she acted. But my point is that I have been at college now for about 4 months and currently weigh 155 lbs.! I went on the same diet I have been trying to maintain for years, low sugar, low calorie, and overall healthy foods, and the difference was that I didn't have someone constantly tempting me, I found that I was strong enough myself to eat some fruit or a salad at the dining hall instead of the pizza or hamburgers, its empowering to find out you really are strong enough to eat healthy, sometimes its your environment or the people you are with that can hinder your diet efforts. and I still find when I come home for breaks I eat worse than I do at school, I found my experience pretty enlightening! Hope this helped, keep up the amazing work you can do it!! =)

Oh I just realized I was talking about a post you posted back from when you started this thread, sorry!

Lol, no worries, I've done it too :) We did have a good chat about things and it really helped. He's now a huge support and help.

Thanks for the advice. Have you started a journal? I'll have to check it out!!

Marie

Hey Marie! I didn't even see that you posted.. I must have missed it before! Let me tell you.. I ate til I literally coudln't eat anymore.. don't feel bad... I had the shits AND threw up! I tell ya... if I didn't learn my lesson this time... I don't think I ever will! Jeez I hate party food! LOL

I was up on the scale too, 137.2 :-/ but I'm not weighing myself for a while because I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. We will get back on track no problem :D

And that is awesome about the jeans!! I also got 2 new pairs! Size 29! High five for us :hurray:

TTYL
~ Sarah

We are not taking ANY food home with us so it will all be back to normal as of Saturday... still have new years to get through ;)

Size 29 would bee perfect, the 28's are slightly tight in the thigh... but they didn't have 29's in the store I was shopping in. Oh well, in another month they'll be PERFECT!!!!

Just wanted to say congrats on the awesome progress in such a short time period. I think it was gutsy of you to choose such a bold username. But you are about to pull it off! Good for you. Keep up the great work. You are making your username proud so far. :)

Thanks :) When I started I never once thought that I "wouldn't" be able to do it, but I can honestly say that all the support I've gotten on here has made it SO much easier. And the best is yet to come :D

Merry Christmas! Glad to hear you enjoyed the holidays with your family!
:banghead: I have been horrible too! Words do not describe it. I got up this morning to drive my parents to the airport and made it to the gym before work - honestly if I didn't have to drive them I wouldn't have gone and continued sleeping but it felt great to get there - I went a whole week without the gym and feel like I've gained 10 pounds! I feel pretty confident about getting back into it and getting these holidays pounds off pretty fast however I have a wedding tomorrow night and then a New Years party so things will still be slow for a couple more days and then it's back to basics!
Chat with you soon - I have lots of work to catch up on!

It's been 4 days and has felt so like so much longer :p I'm really looking forward to getting back to "normal"... although I'm not looking forward to the busy January gym!!

I look forward to your stories :D
Marie

Ok!! I am home, up 4 pounds and ready to rock 2010!!! We had a really fun new years. I ate too much but didn't really go over board, and only drank a half bottle of red ;) The drive home yesterday sucked!! The roads were so bad and the the wildlife was out. But we made it home safe and sound. We didn't bring ANY food home with us so my house is free of it :) Hit Costco today and got all stocked up with the good stuff. We got a George Forman grill and a food processer for christmas!! I also got a sport watch that monitors heart rate and counts calories, a fabulous new gym bag and a ipod shuffle for the gym. Everyone was very supportive of my new lifestyle :D Right now, I'm feeling quite "chubby" and almost sick, but extremely confident that I'll be right back where I want to be very quickly. I'm feeling really tired today but would like to try and hit the gym. It's snowing like crazy and I've shovelled once already but quite sure I'll be doing it again :p

I don't really believe in new years resolutions, but I do try and make a focus for the year. This year, my focus is on BALANCE. I feel like I've really been able to focus on me for the last 3 months, but other parts of my life have suffered b/c of it... like laundry and housework ;) I just need to organize my life a little better and all will be fine.

Overall I'm very happy and very excited for the coming challenges and successes!!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN :)

Hey Marie :waving:

Glad you had a nice time on your trip! But I bet it feels good to be home :D I've put on a couple pounds too, I'm sticking around the 137-138 range right now... I'm just happy that I'm still in the 130's! I'm ready to get back on track and I'll be with ya every step of the way :) Sounds like you got some nice gifts to help you out... and a great goal for yourself this year!

Chat with you soon....
~ Sarah

Glad to hear you had a great holiday break and only drank a half of bottle of wine!! Wow that's amazing!! We took back our empties yesterday from the holidays and made $54 so we definitly had more than a half of bottle! Are you finding it hard to get your snacking under control again? I am and know I will not start losing again until I do. Hopefully after a couple nights of going to bed at a decent hour again I will get it under control. Chat soon - I have to find my diary to update my ticker :(

We didn't bring ANYTHING home with us so I don't have anything to snack on!! The transition has been really good actually. My trouble is the gym. I'm going this morning finally so we'll see how it goes. It's SOOOOO busy right now and it turns me off actually :(

I didn't do anything for excercise yesterday. I'm down on the scale, but my body feels "jiggly" so the numbers aren't comforting at all. Food was good yesterday though!!

I'm nervous for the gym today... it's been 2weeks!! These are the times in the past where I have quit, with excuses like it's too busy... I just didn't get there... etc. It's nice to have the schedule of dropping Sam off at school and going b/c I will go... I'm already out ;)

I have 3 massages booked for today!!! The one tonight though called last night at 9:45 asking if he could come at 10pm... I really hope he's not a weirdo :p I've got him coming tonight while the hubbies home, just in case!!!

Ok, time to get this day started!! I'll post my workout later and let you know how it goes!!
Marie

Come on now, no excuses this time! You own that place! :D Seriously though, you have to look at the gym in a different light this time of year. Let yourself be entertained by all the different people there. I actually enjoy it when it is crowded because I can get on one of the cardio machines and be entertained while I am doing cardio, which would otherwise be a little on the boring side. It's pretty much a guarantee I'm going to see some hot bods, some freaks and at least a hand full of people from the 80's that hitched a ride on Doc's Delorian and wound up at my gym. :D

:smilielol5: LOL!! I never thought of it that way... thanks!! ;)

Oh yesterday... what a day!! We have to start getting up earlier b/c this rushing around thing in the morning really sucks :ack2: I got both girls to school (barely on time) and then off to the gym... but realized that I forgot to transfer my membership card into the new gym bag (dumb dumb). I had 3 massages yesterday and was concerned about time so when I came home to get the membership I decided working out at home might be the better way to go... and it was :) I did 30min on the eliptical. There are no batteries in it so no resistance. I just went as fast as I could, and using my new HR watch I kept my HR in the target zone. Then I did that killer squat video that killed me a couple weeks ago, abs and a REALLY good stretch. 1 hour in total, 578 cals. I can definately feel my butt today, but the stretch worked b/c I can still walk ;)

My eating yesterday sucked :ack2: I was so busy I just really didn't make the time to sit down and eat. I had a banana for breakfast, a turkey pepperoni stick for lunch. A couple pieces of deer sausage b/w massage treatments and that was it before supper. Made a slow cooker BBQ ckn with pasta and carrots for supper and then had a bowl of WW taco chips and cheese in the evening.

It's -30 again today, so I'm thinking I'll drive Emma to school and then hit the gym for a run and upper body weights.

Happy Hump Day :)
Marie

Nice work getting your work out done at home! Sounds like it was a good one and a great way to get back to it. I have been doing more strength training and really enjoy it - I love how my muscles feel. Still snacking too much :banghead: I'm not too worried about it just mad at myself for not having any control. I'm so excited to read my book on my trip - I think it will be the best opportunity to really get into it while lying on the beach. It's just been collecting dust on my night stand because I never think of it. It was the first thing I packed in my suitcase along with all bran buds and pepto. I hate the gym being really busy too - especially if the machine I want to use is busy the whole time I plan to be there. Derrick made some good points though too that it's for sure more entertaining! Keep it up Marie! You're off to a great start!

Negative 30 degrees?!? :ack2: I wouldn't leave my house for anything let alone going to the gym! LOL Just kidding but ouch that is cold! It was -1 here yesterday morning and that was the coldest temp here in the last two or three years.

Good job working out at home yesterday. Sounds like you really had a good workout.

Strength training is the best, and so much more important than people think. You are going to LOVE that book (once you start ;) ). I just picked up "The Secret". I love the idea of it so I'm hoping it good.

:smilielol5: -30 is definately cold, but it gets a heck of a lot colder. Over x-mas we were in Saskatchewan. The coldest day there was -52 with the windchill. Now THAT'S COLD!!! -30 is just the norm for the winter. School still runs, busses run, life goes on... it just sucks ;)

I made it to the gym this morning. Felt so good to be back!!! Although not as entertaining as I was expecting Derrick... no hotties either :( Oh well, it wasn't that busy which was so nice. I got on a treadmill right away, although it was the one with no incline. Had to laugh though b/c I didn't know it didn't incline... just thought I was rocking it today  Shouldn't say that, I did rock!! I started running at 6.5mph b/c that's what Sarah runs at now ;) I just did intervals for the whole 30min and still beat my time. My best was 2 miles in 30min... today was 2.75miles in 30min!!!:hurray: Felt so good!! I just did upper body machine b/c I did legs yesterday (and only had an hour b/c Sam was in playcare). I was extremely weak in my upper body. It's amazing what you lose in such a short time. Shouldn't take too long to get it back though. Now I'm just waiting to head back out in the cold to get Emma from school, then I think a nice hot sauna is in order :)

Marie

Awesome work out!! Good time on the treadmill too - your getting so much faster!
I wonder if Derrick thinks it was -30 Fahrenheit instead of Celsius? It has been lingering around -25 C here too but it's the norm for these times too. I'm looking forward to the plus 25 next week in Dominican. Not too hot but not freezing cold!
Are you excited or nervous for weigh-in tomorrow? I'm not excited because I know it's not good. I even took some measurements last night and am up 3 inches around my waist!! I've been eating lots of cabbage soup this week so hopefully I'm just bloated.
Have a good day! :waving:

I'm worried about measurements too, the scale is fine. I was back down to 134.4 this morning so I really happy with that. My body on the other hand is still not happy with me. I have my nice winter padding back and don't like it at all :p

I think I'm very lucky that we went away for holiday's. We were able to come back and jump right back into life the way it was before we left. I'm not having the troubles that everyone else seems to be having. The temptations aren't here.

I did NOT want to go to the gym this morning... (was in quite a mood actually), but I went and I'm so glad I did!!. Did 30min of intervals on the treamill again, but I was on the km machine so I'm not sure how I did ;) The fastest run was 10.0kph at 0.0 incline, but when I walked it was always at 5.5 incline. My total was 3.50k in 30min. Then I did lower body and abs. I remembered to wear my new watch and it was nice to see that I'm keeping my HR up during the entire workout. I burned just under 800 cal in just over an hour. I think I'll need to take tomorrow as a yoga day. My body is asking for it!!

We ordered Chinese last night. My husband really wanted it and I didn't have the energy to battle... and it was so good ;) I didn't overdue it either, but it was hard not too. I filled my plate with the normal amount I eat. When that was done I was full, but so not satisfied... I wanted more. It was SO hard to stop eating. That is the same reaction I've always had with McDonald's, and then an hour later it's like I didn't eat at all. Crap ;)

Marie

Ok, official Friday weight in... 134.6!!! I am very happy with this number but I'm afraid that it's not the right loss. I feel really weak and flabby so my concern is that I've lost a little muscle. I took my measurements this morning b/c I was sure they were going to be up... they were all over the place. Bust and belly were up 1/2inch, waist the same, hips and thighs were down 1/2 inch. I'm happy with these numbers too.

I'm feeling really "tight" today. I have to take the little one to a playdate thing this morning so the gym is out which works out good b/c I wanted to have a yoga day today.

I was craving a tart last night so bad :ack2: It was so stupid... luckly we don't have ANYTHING in the house. But I did have a few whole wheat nacho chips with cheese. The night munchies are definately back. My husband is really no help right now at all :( He had a fun new years this year ;) The boys were all in the hot tub and decided it would be fun to do canonballs into the snow bank. Not even thinking that snow would be hard... my husband went first and knocked the wind out of himself so bad he couldn't warn the others not to do it. I'm pretty sure he fractured his tailbone... this was in Edmonton so we still had a 9 hour drive the next day. So, he can hardly sit so the weight machines are out and the gym is SO crazy busy when he's done work that not a single machine has been open all week :ack2: So he's drinking beer and eating whatever he wants and just not following our healthy new lifestyle at all...

I did start reading "The Secret" yesterday. I think I'm going to get a lot out of it. The whole concept is the law of attration... like attracts like... the power of positive thinking... we'll see ;)

Happy Friday everyone :) Hope it's a good one!!
Marie

Holy man am I tired this morning. We had a pretty good weekend, got a lot done, but didn't get to the gym once :p My eating was all over the map. Sat I didn't eat anything till early afternoon when we stopped at MD's. I had a Southwest crispy ckn burger thing with reg fries and white milk... and that was pretty much all I ate all day. Yesterday was whole wheat flax waffles with light syrup, a hot dog, and then ckn stuffing and corn for supper. I had some kind of evening snack every night... not really bad ones but still.

My girlfriend has offered to watch Sam this morning for me so I can go to the gym. I really don't feel like it, but I have a dentist appointment tomorrow so I won't be able to go then. AHHHH, what a blah morning... I need to snap out of this... NOW!!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Marie

Wow... that's a nice friend you have to watch your kid so you can work out :D Definitely take advantage of that! Besides, it's Monday, and we're starting a kick ass week. Time to REALLY buckle down now... I'm sick of just SAYING I'm going to... time to take action NOW!

Let me know how you like The Secret... I'm interested in reading it as well :)

In regards to Friday's weigh in... way to go keeping it down!!! Jeez, I've got a lot of catching up to do! lol :)

Have a great Monday! Rock it at the gym!

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Sarah!!!! I really needed to hear this!! I had every single excuse for not going this morning. Waked Emma to school, came home and read this, grabbed my gym bag and WENT TO THE GYM!!! And I'm so glad I did. It was crazy busy but I got a treadmill right away. I did 3k of intervals all at incline 3.0 and switching between 6.0kph and 9.5kph. Oh and in there somewhere did 5min at incline 10.0 with 3 30sec sprints at 9.0kph. It felt great!! Then I did upper body with free weights, lots of squats and lower body machines. Finished with abs and a good stretch.

Let me know how you like The Secret... I'm interested in reading it as well :)

Its good so far... a little extreme, but the basic concept is great. I think it's definately worth a read!
