Heldog's diary starts at 170, losing weight for my wedding.

Hey,

I'm new! I found this site after going to try on a wedding dress and noticing my large arms and rolls. I don't like! On my wedding day I DO NOT want to be ashamed of my body! So I googled weight loss forums and here I am.

I'm 5'6" and when I met my fiance I was a happy 140. In the past 2 years I have gained 35lbs. I picked up his terrible eating habits. In which he gains nothing and I gain a lot. >:( Now we are going to eat healthy and I got a Membership at a gym. I also have an application on my phone to count calories for me. I would like to get back to 140. I started this to keep myself on track. I am hoping to post measurements, weight and pictures weekly. Pictures will be posted less frequently and I will post my last picture in my wedding dress, just for fun.

And so it starts:

January 23rd 2012

Weight:172

Arms: 13"

Thighs: 24.5"

Hips: 43"

Waist: 33"

Chest" 42"

Got my membership on Thursday and I went to the gym Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

One question...I thought that you were supposed to weigh less in the morning. Last night I weighed 168. This morning I weigh 172. I've checked everyday last week and the same thing...Is that normal? Or does it indicate I'm doing something wrong?

Welcome

Good luck on your goal

How long till the wedding?

On the scale thing...I think everyone is different but I would weigh in at the same time of day each time if possible that way it will minimize fluctuations

Good luck...

The wedding is in August but my dress comes in June. I want to be at my goal weight by June so that I can get it fitted and be prepared. So I have about 5 months. I need to lose about 1-2 lbs a week. Which I think is doable.

Thanks for posting! My work out buddy is seriously slacking! It makes going to the gym a bit difficult when the other person is whining about having to go. Then conveniently forgetting to show up.

Encouragement in the form of someone taking an interest and the time to reply to my post is always encouraging. :)

I am going to the gym. I am aiming for 5 or 6 days a week. I used to work out for an hour in the morning, then walk to work (about a 2 miles), then walk home. Just for fun I would watch tv and do sit ups or some 10 minute workout I had read in a magazine at work that day. I still walk to work about once a week. It's -30 C here so it's not an extremely enjoyable walk but I want to stay in the habit. When I get to the gym I usually stretch for 10 minutes, run for 5 walk for 2 for 30-40 mins, then the circuit or weights for about 20 mins and after that I stretch again.

To lose weight are you supposed to slow down? Is it best to walk or run when trying to losing weight? I had someone tell me that to lose weight you should slow down. I like to walk for a bit then really run hard and get my heart rate up to about 185 then I slow it down to about 145. What should my heart rate be at? Resting it is 72 (just checked it).

I am aiming to 1900 calories a day. I downloaded a calorie counter on my phone. I entered in my age, weight, height and activity level. 1900 is what it told me I should consume a day. I do not entirely trust it though. I do not weigh my food so I have no idea if the amount of calories/serving that the APP says is what I am consuming. So I use it as a guide and let my stomach tell me when I'm not hungry any more. Sometimes I end up eating less sometimes more. I think the important thing is I am watching and realizing how many calories are in each food.

If someone thinks I'm doing wrong let me know! I have worked out for about 5 1/2 years (not much in the last 2 years and not to lose weight) but calorie counting is new to me. Before it was just something fun to do. Now it feels like a chore. I want it to be fun again.

It will be ivory, because I am a red head and pale I figured ivory would be best. It has a chapel train. Here is a picture. :)

That is a very very pretty dress!

You should print a picture of it and put it on the fridge.

On the exercise thing I think it is simply the thing that you can keep up is best and then slowly increase as you go. You are young so maybe mix walking and running for at least 30 minutes (45 if you can handle it) and slowly increase the running portion.

What a fantastic motivator!!

Form some good habits and keep it up.

Hey there!

We have almost the exact same story! I'm getting married in June 2012. Met my fiance in June 2010 and was about 135-140ish. Didn't really weigh myself much. My skinny jeans fit and I was happy. My fiance is about 125-130lbs and eats all the time and never gains weight. A combo of that and being really happy led me to pack on weight and be a little over 170lbs when he proposed to me in June 2011. So it took me a year to gain about 30 lbs. YUCK!

I've been on my weight loss for a few months now. I had initially started and then stopped, but have been doing really well since I started again a couple months ago. I also count calories. It's the easiest way for me and I really enjoy the ability to eat what I want as long as I have room in my calories for the day. Don't take this the wrong way, but I feel that 1900 calories is too high. Make sure to subtract some calories from the number if what they give you is supposed to maintain your weight. For example, if 1900 is maintenance, then consuming 1400 calories would result in 1lb loss a week. 500 cals less a day = 3500 in a week which equals 1lb of fat.

If you have done that already and your number is 1900, then just ignore what I said!!!! :)

As for the cardio question. I believe what you're doing is great. It's called interval training and will actually result in more fat burning even after you stop exercising. This type of cardio is way more beneficial than slow and steady cardio.

You have a very doable goal, I know you can make it!

I'm starting to feel the pressure. My dress fitting is scheduled for March 10 but I think I'm going to push it back to April to give me some more time. I really want to be down to about 140lbs. After my fitting, I have to stop losing weight in order for it to fit correctly so that is where I need to be!

Your dress is beautiful by the way! Love it! I'll be posting a picture of mine after the wedding. I have a fear my husband could somehow see it if I post it before, so I don't want to risk it.

We're going to look fabulous on our wedding days!!! :)

Yay! That's really cool that we have about the same goals.

I have already subtracted the 500 from my daily caloric intake but thanks for inquiring. Good to know ppl are actually wanting you to survive this and be thin instead of skinny and starved to death. ha

So how much have you lost?

How tall are you?

I would love to see your dress. Could you post a link instead of a picture?

How long have you been on this site?

One of my big concerns is my arms...got any tips for workouts that don't bulk them up, just tone?

How are you keeping track of calories? a journal?

This is my new favourite site! lol

So far I've lost 17lbs. I started at 172lbs and am now 155lbs.

I'm 5'4"

I'll see if I can find it on the David's Bridal website and then post the link. If I can't find the exact one I'll find the one closest.

I've been on here since November under this name. When I first started I used a different name, but then left for awhile. When I came back I decided to start fresh with a new username and a new diary.

I use my total gym and it's great for toning my arms. Other than that I would say pushups, dips, and take advantage of all the weight machines at the gym.

I keep track usually by posting everything here in my journal. I tally as the day goes on and plan out my lunch dinner and snacks.

I hate eating more calories than I should because then I know I have to post it here and I don't want to do that, so it keeps me from overeating... most of the time!

Munch,

CONGRATS! On the 17lbs that is! That's awesome! Was it your goal to lose about 5lbs per month?

Hope you can find the link. I love looking at dresses. Posting everything in your journal is a very good idea!

I don't really have a problem with overeating during the day. It's when I get home. >:( My fiance sits on the couch and eats chips. Its taken everything in me to not reach over and have a couple. A couple leads to half of the bag. I grew up in a big family with a very limited income. So when I start to eat I find it hard to stop until its gone. When I was growing up it was eat what you can when you can and eat it all. It's not like we starved or anything but it was definitely a contest. It's kinda still programmed in me to eat competitively. Not the best thing to do when trying to lose weight. Haha I have to tell myself, "If I want it badly enough it will be there in 20 mins, just wait." Usually realise I don't want it after that. Works for me! :) Thought I'd share that because I want a chip right now and they are right beside me. haha

Went to the gym tonight and pushed myself harder than usual. Added a minute to running and subtracted 30 seconds from walking. Did that for 35 minutes. Did the circuit for 10 mins (got bored) and weights for 20 mins. I didn't eat very much today. Probably should have eaten more. :) Oh well. I had an egg and a small veggie sandwich. Drank the amount of water I needed to though! :)

Don’t reach over and have a couple reach over and slap him up the back of the head... it will expel some calories and make you feel better lol

Haha! I don't know if I would smack him. Not sure but I don't think he'd like that. lol There a time I was able to have others around me eat tons of junky foods and it wouldn't bother. I think that's why I haven't said anything to him about it. I want to get back to that level of self control. Maybe I will ask him not to for a week or so.........that might help me to get back to not wanting them as much.

I never intended to eat so little yesterday. It was just one of those days when there was always someone around, something to do and I had forgotten my bag full of snackies in the fridge. I find when I forget a meal because I am busy, I don't fell hungry until I eat something again.....I'm guessing that's my body going into starvation mode or does it take longer for that to kick in?

Thanks for the info Crymlyn! I am definitely going to use the weights more often. :)

I didn't get to the gym today. :( Ended up having to work until 10! The gym I go to closes at 11 and by the time I got there I would have had 15 mins to work out. Planning to go on Sunday (normally my off day) to make up for missing today. Ate the right amount today! Drank a little less than I was supposed to for water but pretty close.

For a while when I first started counting calories and going to the gym I was a bit discouraged. The scale would not budge! Decided to keep at it for one more week, lost 2lbs. Now it kinda feels like they are melting away. haha Doesn't seem as hard to do now! The treadmill is my friend. haha

Yay for today! I 89% of the calories I was supposed to today

When I went to the gym everyone else there were in REALLY good shape! So I didn't want to look like such a newb so whatever they ran I would run for a minute longer. Haha. It was hard but fun!

Drank a good amount of water. I'm kinda slacking on that though.

All in all good day.

Ok I'm a little annoyed. The other day when I weighed myself in the morning I was 169 but I'm at 170 again. Oh well. I guess I still made it to my goal for the week though sooo...that's good :)
