gwal's DIARY

...I find that weighing myself hurts me. If I have a bad weigh-in, I'm convinced nothing is working and I get discouraged. If I have a good weigh-in, I become less strict with myself. ...

That is exactly why I don't weigh myself daily any more.

I like the way you've expressed yourself about the workout you could easily have skipped too.

I'm glad I found your diary. :)

It looks like you are well on your way to your goal already. :)

Thanks for stopping by my diary, felici and crazy4beads!
Having more people see my diary is going to keep me coming back and keep me honest in the process.

This was a tough weekend. I hosted a St Patty's day party yesterday, lots of food and drink, of course. I let myself have a "day off" and I don't really feel guilty, but it's funny how I want to get right back on course because I feel like crap when I eat like crap. So, I had a great workout today. I haven't eaten as well as I could today, but I'm all set for tonight and tomorrow in terms of a food plan.

It's not easy getting back on track after a day or two off. Yikes! i've been great about my water intake, and did well with food intake until mid afternoon when I felt the need to pick at the leftover cake from the party weekend. Finally, I decided to dump the deliciousness straight in the garbage...better there than on my hips!!!!!!

Good for you on tossing the cake. I know I would never be able to pass on that temptation if it were here in my house.

Don't stress over two days off, you will get back in the swing of things soon enough. If we can't live once in a while, there is now way we are going to be able to make this a lifestyle change. You are doing great.

Hi Jen,
This is the first time I've stopped by your diary - but I wanted to say it sounds like you are doing GREAT!

Good work on losing those first 5 pounds :D

I saw you were 5'9" how much do you weigh? I'm 5'9" as well!

This really works for me.

It's nice to start feeling that you want to do what you ought to do isn't it? :)

Good on you for dumping the leftover cake. Being able to get back on track after disruptions to a good plan is a vital skill in this process.

Soo true..I dislike the feeling after messing up, my mind tells me to go ahead and eat more, i messed up anyway, or ahhh one more day of eating this wont hurt, i already ate it yesterday..or, i will restart my plan on a different day..This is soo common with most of us..tossing that cake away.. goo you!! :D

Hey Everyone-

Thanks for stopping by my diary. It's getting a little more interesting around here, which keeps me coming back.

Jo-

I do not have a particular weigh in day. When I do weigh in, it's always in the morning, which is one's truest "dry weight". Frankly, lately, I've been weighing in less and less. Part of me wants to toss the scale out the window.

To answer your other question, I am an absolute amateur jewelry maker. I'm quite crafty by nature and I decided several months ago that I could make some of the jewelry that I was seeing in catalogs and fashion magazines...so I taught myself to do it, and have made some pieces I'm pretty proud of. My signature piece would probably be a long necklace with large beads finished with a drapery tassel at the end...looks great with a simple sweater. Mostly, I create for myself and a few friends (birthday gifts, etc), but I did do all the jewelry for a wedding party...which was quite fun.

M2M-
To answer your question, I started this journey at 197.5lbs...not my heaviest ever, but certainly not my ideal. At that weight, I'm in a size 14. After 5 lbs gone, I'm already more comfortable in some 12s. I would love to get into 8's and 10's. I carry the majority of my weight between my navel and my knees. I would love to see 165lbs, but I am truly happy with every pound that comes off before that!

Well, everyone, please keep in touch. I thrive on the attention!

Jen

hi there! I've really enjoyed reading through your diary, you seem like a really great person! Your entries are quite motivational, and I see you succeeding in your journey! Also, I read your tip in someone else's diary (at least I think it was you!) about going 4 days without eating any sweets and it made me think about doing it myself. Usually, I have one sweet thing at night before I go to bed. I try to keep snack-size sweet things so that I don't over eat when I do indulge myself in a treat. But I've often longed to be able to go a whole day without any sweets. So I'm going to give it a try! (I foresee headaches. lol)

Well, it's nice to meet you on here. Good luck with your journey!

Those are the same necklaces i make..I also like to copy jewelry from catalogs! haha although i do use my creativity also, but i like to challenge myself in making jewelry that seems impossible to make..Im crazy about making chandelier earrings..Soo pretty..

As for the weigh ins , I cant be away from my scale. I think its great to weigh yourself at least once a week. That way you know your making progress even if its that half a pound lost.

Are you measuring yourself?

I didnt know how much you weighed until now, you said we were close. But i think we are almost exact in weight? My 14's are finally loose on me now, not tight to where i cant breath! but still a few inches away from 12, but then you are taller too :) let's race!! lol i say once we hit 180 we exchange some jewelry!!! :)

Monica-

Thanks for joining my diary. I'm glad you're going to try the 4 day fast from sweets. I think you'll be surprised at how the cravings go down. Of course, I don't think there's any real problem with eating one sweet snack per day...as long as it doesn't keep you wanting more.
It certainly looks like your doing well on your journey as well. I can't wait to say that I have 22 lbs gone! I guess we can inspire each other.

Jo-

Yes, we are so similar in weight and size. I have measured myself, but not recently. I'll remeasure at the 10lb mark probably. You know you've lost inches when the clothes are looser, and I love that feeling. I do weigh myself at least once a week, but I don't set a particular day. I find that if I have a weigh-in day, I do real well with my diet for the days leading into the day, then sabotage myself after I've weighed in...that was why I never succeeded with weight watchers.
I think the 180lb jewelry exchange is a fantastic idea. You are on! I'll start working on a piece for you now, since the exchange will be soon (positive thinking).

Well, time to get the kids up for school...maybe I'll have my coffee first.
A happy day to all.

Jen

Hi Jen, Thanks for stopping by my diary. Thought I'd come visit yours. Sounds like you're doing awesome. Keep up the good work!

Good to hear you are back into 12s. Always feels incredible to drop a SIZE.

Keep up the great work & I'm glad you are finding this place more interesting. Helps to have such a supportive retreat, even if we are just virtual.

Again, thanks for all the attention, everyone.

Speaking of smaller sizes, I made a little promise to myself. I will never buy a size 14 again. It's either smaller or no new clothes. For me, that's incentive. In fact, when I'm truly comfortable in 12's and hopefully 10's, I will have all my 14's altered (or donated), so as to not have that safety net of larger clothing sitting in my closet. I figure it's simply a way to keep my self accountable.

Today was a good day. No workout, but it was a planned day off. I may, in fact, still squeeze in a bit of lifting later tonight...but that would just be a bonus. My food intake was good, with controlled portions of healthy food. Water intake is at over 100oz already.

Keep your eyes on the prize, everyone!

Jen

Hi Jen,
It sounds like a good day!

I hear ya about not keeping old clothes, I've gotten rid of all my old ones except for one pair of jeans I used to wear ALL the time - they're my fat jeans that I use in comparison pictures ;)

I started wearing 12's when I was 185 and at 175 I am *able* to get into some 10's but that doesn't mean I'll buy any yet  Soon I hope!

I LOVE this aspect of getting fit!

It's good to see you are being so controlled and reasonable in your approach.

I'm a beader too!

Not so much now I am into posting on forums and finding time to exercise. I've tended to start with the beads. "Nice bead. What could you do with it?" That sort of thing. Amazing how many other bits I have ended up needing to add.

I have given away most of my favourite creations. I still have the earrings that earned me interest and compliments in the bead shop though!

I am a little oversupplied with raw materials right now because a few people got excited at the prospect of knowing something I was into that they could use for gifts! However, I refuse to get guilty about not beading while I have unused exercise ideas!
