gwal's DIARY

Hey felici-

I find that I have less time for my hobbies when I'm trying to fit regularly scheduled workouts into my life. I also find, however, that hobbies that occupy my hands (such as beading, knitting, etc) are good distractions from food. I can't eat while I'm doing these things (unlike activities such as watching tv, etc).

Well, here's to another good day!

Jen

I agree. I found the same thing. Anything that is really absorbing, plus needs both hands is a real help! :)

Well, it was back to work for me after 7 days off. I definitely tend to eat less and walk more when at work, but I am so tired by day's end, that workout thoughts go right out the window.

I've now lost the few pounds that I had gained last weekend with the st patrick's day festivities, so feeling good......

How often do you work?

I hope your schedule will allow you to sometimes still get time to look after your own body in a way that leaves you feeling good afterwards instead of just tired. :)

Hey everyone-
Thanks for keeping my diary active while I'm at work.

Felici-to answer your question, I work about 14 days a month. I'm lucky that I get several days off in a month, but my days are unpredictable and very busy. I work in a very busy hospital, and it's mentally and physically exhausting by day's end. It's difficult for me to set a certain schedule because some weeks I might not work at all and others I'll work 5 or 6 days. But, I love my job, and am willing to put up with its negative aspects.

My discipline yesterday was all out of whack, but I'm pretty sure I stayed on calorie target (but not the most healthful calories, for sure). What really threw me off was that I had misplaced my water bottle. Now that I've found it, I'm doing much better today. I've already had over 90 oz of water, and it's only 4pm.

Here's to a healthy week everyone!

Hi!

I do relief teaching, so I don't have a predictable schedule either. I'm not sure if I would prefer predictability. A regular job has more ongoing issues to deal with, and like you I usually really enjoy my opportunities to work. I don't have to do anything as gruelling as you are though.

Also I get frantic without my water bottle!! It helps that there are lots of places to buy water around here. Additionally I keep an unopened spare in the glove box of my car.

I forgot to congratulate you on your loss earlier too. Sorry. It is great to see those scales behaving. :)

I'm back to say "hi"

Hi!
Way to go on your exercising!! I'll bet your measurements will show how dedicated you are. Have you been keeping track of that? :)
You gave me a good idea about keeping track of the water I drink by using a bigger bottle for measuring. It's working way better. Thanks again.
Here's an interesting article regarding water intake:

I haven't read the research yet.
It has reasured me, even though I do get about 9 glasses a day now.

Have a good day!

Hey Everyone-

Jo, Jenn, Cheryl....thanks for stopping in. I hope you're all doing well.

I am doing well. I started a pilates class last night (it runs twice weekly for the next 12 weeks). I enjoyed it, but I'm not as sore as I thought I might be today. But, I am certain, it was not a waste of time.

I have a bit of a renewed focus on this whole effort. Yesterday, I realized that I have exactly 90 days until I go on vacation to a resort we visit every year. Much of our time there is spent lounging around the pool/beach in swimsuits. I want to be more comfortable with that whole thing. So, I've got 3 short months to get there. I like having short term goals to keep me on target.

I've re-examined my dietary habits, and I know that I could benefit from cutting some sugars/carbs. I'm also going to continue my cardio workouts and increase my weight lifting.

I leave for that vacation on June 23rd. I'll post a picture of myself in a swimsuit on this site sometime that week before I leave...Now that's incentive!

Keep me going, guys!

Jen

Awesome, Pilates! I do enjoy pilates, however there are no classes around here right now. I usually resort the Windsor Pilated tapes.

Swimsuit photo!! I'll be waiting!!

I originally bumped up my exercise to help me lose weight faster too, but now I just love the side effect of feeling so great afterwards and healthier in between times. Great move on upping the ante! :)

Good for you for joining Pilates, I'm sure you will enjoy it:) You have almost 3 months for the vacation. YOU CAN DO THIS ! and you will look great!

Pilates went well last night. It feels good to tighten up that core area. I also did a 40 minute session on the elliptical yesterday morning.

My diet has been very disciplined over the last couple days. I can feel it making a difference already.

87 days til the new me!

I am so proud of my self-control tonight. We got together with family for a little birthday party, and I had a very small piece of pizza (maybe 2x3 inches) and a sliver of cake. To be honest, the cake didn't even taste that great...the sweetness overpowered me as I've been avoiding simple sugars as of late.

Tomorrow night I have plans to get together with friends in the evening. That is going to be my "cheat" meal for the week. I will stick to my plan all morning/afternoon to keep me on track. I also will workout tomorrow am.

You see, tomorrow is my 35th birthday. I could make every excuse in the book to binge and "treat myself." But, I figure that the best gift I can give myself is the satisfaction that my body is finally becoming what I've wanted it to be. I have stopped being my worst saboteer.

Let's hope the scale gives me a little birthday present too!
