Gus Gus' Diary

Hello one & all!

I recently went to the doctor to check up my thyroidism and found out I weight 240lbs and have the symptoms of a possible onset of Type 2 Diabetes  (EEK for sure) if I don't change my lifestyle. That's why I'm here.

Weight Loss Goal
I want to lose 70+lbs. Which would put me between 150-160lbs, which I find very desireable right now.

Timeframe:
I want to reach my goal weight by January 2007. Which would mean I would have to lose 10lbs a month.

Methods:
I am following the Fat Flush Program, which has three phases:

Phase 1: Detoxify the liver & the body
duration: 2 weeks

Phase 2: Start the change of regular eating habits
Duration: 4 weeks

Phase 3: Continue these new habits, for life
Duration: the rest of my life

Exercise: I want to work out 5 times a week, low impact, 20-35+minutes, and a variety of exercises: walking, running, swimming, sports, etc

Support:
I have my entire immediate family supporting me. Although they need to lose a lot less weight, they are still following the same diet plan. They are pushing me to exercise and exercising with me.

How Realistic?:
I think my goals are pretty realistic because of my age (17). They say the younger you are the easier it is to lose. Also with this great support from my family and the hopes in attracting a certain person ;) that I have a strong motivation.

Starting Point:
I started June 22nd 2006

June 22nd & 23rd

I am backtracking to let you guys know how I've done the last two days. I will include the recipes/ingredients for the food/drink I consume, in case you guys/gals want to try it.

June 22nd:
Before breakfast: 1 cup of cranberry water (very good at cleaning out the system) with 1 tsp of physillium powder; 1 cup of hot water with lemon.

Breakfast: Omelette and 1 cup of cranwater

Lunch: catfish and salad (no dressing; I will explain later)

Dinner: chicken breast and salad (no dressing)

Recipes
Cranberry water: 4 oz of unsweetened cranberry juice (Trader Joe's or Whole Food's Market) mixed with 28oz of plain water.

Omelette: 2 whole eggs, red & green bellpepper, spinach

Salad: Romain or regular lettuce, tomatoes, bellpeppers (opt), and balsamic vinegar. No real dressings allowed.

June 23rd
Before breakfast: Nothing; I had a blood test to take at 8am so I had to be fasting.

Breakfast: Omelette from Corner Bakery (eggs, bellpeppers, onions), 1 piece of sourdough toast (not on the plan :( but I was SO hungry) and cranberry juice with water (not on the plan either but they had NO cranwater :( )

Lunch: Lean steak and salad

Dinner: Lean steak...I was at my aunt's house and she has spaghetti. I was SO TEMPTED, I took a taste  but it wasn't the kind I like anyways :D

Good job!

Good job resisting temptation! Hang in there and you will turn around your diabetes risk in no time! Make sure you get your exercise in. It's a committment to yourself, and you deserve it! :)

You Can Do It!!!

GusGus, Welcome, I know you can do it. Your goals are very realistic. I have no idea what the Fat Flush Program is. Theres a lot of diets out there & they all seem to work. Is your diet from your doctor?

No it's not from my doctor. My mom had read about it before and its very similar to the one I followed a couple years back where I lost a lot of weight. I have already seen my doctor and he doesn't have much suggestions of how to lose the weight besides the reg. "diet and exercise" so he's not so helpful.

Oh I forgot to tell you guys..

When I saw the endocrinologist on thursday, he said I should be weighing 130lbs for my height and he was SO rude because as he was talking to us he was backing out of the room...excuse me but I have an appt!!! So lame. But after we left my mom and I were so frustrated because doctor's dont give you the time of day anymore.

So Yeah I just laughed to myself when he said I should be 130lbs. He as well as other doctors think that chart (BMI) is meant for everyone. Its way to generic. & my personal doctor even told me & my mom that I would never be as small as that because I have a bigger build. But I am not going to use that as an excuse to not loose as much as possible because I want it more then ever!

but yeah, doctors are so funnnnnny sometimes huh (hint of sarcasm);)

Its a pity that doctors are so pressed for time they don't always give quality care. My doctor never even said anything to me about losing weight, much less giving any good advice, because right now I am in good health. Go by how you feel, your blood pressure, blood sugar, your measurements, there are so many ways to measure your health. You are right about everyone not fitting into a certain category.
On another note its great you came here for support and I wish you luck.

Ugh today!

Today I did pretty good just up until a little while ago....:(

Before Breakfast: 1 cup of cranwater and 1 tsp of physillium powder; 1 cup of hot water with lemon

Breakfast: Smoothie

Snack: Strawberries

Dinner: chicken breast, asparagus, & salad with 1tsp of flaxseed oil.

Water count: 8 cups and going...

but I messed up, I caved in and had about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips which I put into a piece of white bread. MESS UP BIG TIME. UGGHHH

I did work out though; I went walking 30 minutes. Mostly uphill

**added later**
Ended up drinking 15 cups of water!!!

Welcome Gus Gus. You should go try another endo...you can find one you like. I think your goals are good and with the support of your family, the forum and your hard work you are going to do great.

By the way....try putting the chocolate into a croissant and putting it in the micro for about 10 secs....sorry, just had to say it.

Me too!! Unfortunately, I am currently living in a place I have to drive 45mins to get any Sushi that is really good. Why are you struggling today? You look like you are eating well--except I have no idea what this is: 1 cup of cranwater and 1 tsp of physillium powder??
