Go Healthy or Go Home! [Weight Loss Diary, Take 2]

Went to my appointment downtown. Had to resist the urge to go to Burger King. We got home and I was torn, so I went to the bathroom, weighed myself, stared at my chart, took off my clothing, and convinced myself it isn't worth it. I would have to get dressed lol. It helps to make it harder to go out. I also will force myself into my workout clothing because it's easier to do it once I'm changed. Either way, I made a good choice, even if I would be at my calorie goal...the sodium would be bad and I promised myself I wouldn't eat any fast food.

I plan on having a nap and then going to TOPS before dinner. Hoping for a good loss!

7. What is your least favorite healthy food?

Tough...I don't really know. I mean, I hate beats, I think they're gross...I think if I had to choose a healthy food I don't like, but I do eat on occasion, it would be chia seeds. It's good for you, and it's easy to use, but it can cause stomach trouble that I don't care for. So, I'll say chia seeds :).

Had a -7.5 loss, so I'm pretty sure I was retaining water last week. Happy about that!

I can't believe I've lost 10lb this month. I didn't think I could do it. I kept bouncing up and down until last week, because I was going out too much and probably consuming too much sodium. It's nice to see that I'm doing something right.

I looked in the mirror last night and I swear my butt is smaller. I'm gonna have to get new pics taken. I figured once a month will be good for progress.

I'm staying strong each day!

8. Write your current weight. Have you lost anything in the past week? If not, what are your plans for this week?

I've lost 7lb this week, glad to be done with the water weight! I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing. No fast food, low sodium, and meals throughout the day :).

Nice work on the weight loss Loch! The questions seem to be helping to keep you focused. If you find the red quinoa I like it a bit better. It seems a little heartier and has more flavor.

There is no poutine here. I honestly can't believe it doesn't exist in Texas. Most of the really terrible foods here fall in to the "fried with gravy" or "fried with cheese" camp. I'm surprised they haven't thought to combine those. You're talking about a place that deep fries their pickles and ice cream.

I went to the states in July for a trip, and we were in the airport in Colorado, and I told my boyfriend to get my usual meal at Burger King. He said "Sweetie, they don't have poutine in America." I had to remember that I wasn't in Canada anymore lol! I find it strange that some of my American friends have no idea what a poutine is. You would THINK that it would be a big deal, especially, as you said, how Texas is with food. Oh, well, probably a good thing...less calories...maybe lol.

9. What is your favorite type of cardio?

Walking, hands down. I could walk for hours. That being said, I can't mindlessly walk. I usually need a goal. Walking to work, or home, is easy. If I go for a 2 hour walk outside I have to chart out a course so I have a destination and a reward (usually a Booster Juice). I do really love to walk though :).

Woke up feeling very tired, and a little bloated, and now I have a terrible headache that also hurts in my jaw. I think I'm gonna go to bed early tonight.

10. Do you count calories? If so, what is your daily limit?

I started first losing weight by counting calories. Now it's the only method I use. It's all math, what goes in, and what comes out. My limit is between 1300-1500 for now. As I lose weight I'll have to stick to 1300 more often, and increase my exercise.

Feeling really sick for some reason, tummy troubles. May be the yogurt I started eating, but it's supposed to be lactose free...Hoping to feel better soon.

11. Today you will be cooking for your whole family. Find a healthy recipe online that they will also enjoy and show them how tasty healthy food can be!

It's just the boyfriend and I tonight, so I'll probably make some turkey burgers and vegetables tonight for the two of us :).

I'm excited to say that I got myself a Fitbit One.

We bought a heart rate monitor watch from Walmart two days ago, and after wearing it for one day I found that it was a little uncomfortable, and after an accidently bump against the wall the band popped out. It was crap quality for $70 so we returned it. I went for the Fitbit because I love to walk, and plan on going for long walks and shooting for 10k steps a day. I read an awesome comparison by a girl losing weight and she had such great things to say, it helped a lot with calorie counting. I'm hoping to get the same benefits.

My next two goodies I want to buy are the Polar FT4 heart rate watch, and the Fitbit Aria scale. I think these are really good tools to lose weight and stay fit :)

12. What is your least favorite type of cardio?

Hm...that's tough. I'll have to go with running. Everything giggles and bounces, especially being a girl. It feels uncomfortable and it's almost painful when you aren't used to it. Still, I'd like to work up to running, because I want the health benefits and I want to conquer that feeling of displeasure I have toward it.

Hi Loch!

First: I am SO glad you did not give up after that rough patch last week. Seems like you are happier and back on track and losing awesome weight!! GOOD JOB!
Second: I am stealing your questions as well hehehe :)
Third: Keep it up! You are doing so awesome! And keep getting back up if you fall, it's the only way.

Hopefully your loss this month is as positive as last!

Thanks for the kind words, Icy :). Sadly, to "celebrate" I talked myself into two bad days, and my weight is back up. Hoping it's just due to tummy troubles and retention. TOPS is gonna be shameful, since I did so well last week. Whatever happens, I won't stay home and sulk, I'll go and face the music. I have gone back to eating better today and I've looked into dietary fiber above anything else. No more treats for me!

13. What is your favorite type of strength exercise?

I'd have to say resistance and dumbbells. I don't have much experience with strength exercise, but I do like the way it feels to do arm curls and mixing up some cardio with the dumbbells.

Food
18 Raspberries - 70
Oatmeal - 150
Chips - 140
3 Prunes - 100
Yogurt - 90
Carrots - 35
Frozen dinner - 260
Chicken Breast - 200

As I suspected, I went from 269.4 to 266.8 in a day. Nice to see that I didn't gain as bad as it looked. I'm happy to be back on track, and also, prunes are good for you!

14. What is your least favorite type of strength exercise?
As before, I don't do a lot of strength exercise so I can't really say for sure. I think if I had to do actual barbell lifting I would hate it. I don't care for the strength machines in gyms where you have to switch the weight selection and fiddle with the way it works in front of everyone. I much prefer simple tactics like dumbbells.

Food
2x Toast w/ cheese whiz - 220
18 Raspberries - 70
Oatmeal - 150
Chips - 150
3 Prunes - 100
Yogurt - 90
Carrots - 35
Ham Sub - 250

I may or may not be working a long shift, if I do I'll be getting some bread sticks for 300 calories, if not, I'll be having chicken w/ veggies for 320.

Exercise
40 min walk

My first trip to Canada and I got money out of an ATM. My first purchace had change owed me that was 3 dollars and change. I was handed coins and I just stood there with my hand out waiting for paper money. That was my awkward introduction to the Loonie and toonie (sp?). We have dollar and half dollar coins, but they aren't in use. I like the 1 and 2 dollar coins. I also had a mild stroke trying to figure out US$ per gallon from the listed CND$ per liter. The short answer is expensive.

I liked what I've seen of Canada very much, but that is limited to Vancouver and some surrounding BC.

You've been doing well. Congratulations on your progress! Keep at it!

We used to have $2 bills, back in the 90s, but yeah now it's coins. We got rid of the penny last year, and now our money is plastic. Its' really interesting how different our countries can be, but also similar!

My treadmill is fixed! The switch needs to be replaced, but until then we can just unplug it or hide the key so the kids can't use it. Excited to start using it again, I want to try the couch to 5K program.

I HATE the plastic money. It SUCKS! And getting rid of the penny was silly too. Makes no cents. Get it. cents. *groan* I know LOL, couldn't help it.

YAY for the treadmill being fixed!

Didn't feel well yesterday so I have to catch up on yesterday's question.

15. Write your current weight. Have you lost anything in the past week? If not, what are your plans for this week?

I weighed 267.0 yesterday which is up 3lb from last week. I feel pretty terrible about that, but there's little I can do. I have to stop going out to eat. I've done it for 2 weeks straight before, so why is it so hard this time? Anyway, going to do that and use my treadmill again.

16. Which part of your body do you wish to change the most and why?

Only one part, lol? My stomach. I hate it, it's always been big, it's always been in the way. I want this spare tire to go away. It's hard to sit, bend over, and it's just...unattractive. That's probably number one on my list.

Oatmeal + Milk - 215
Chips - 330
Ham sub - 350
Carrots - 35
2x turkey burgers and veggies - 720
Popsicle - 40
=1690

Exercise:
20min walk home
18 min walk/run on treadmill
20 min dance
=471

I've been reluctant to come here, but I'm still trying. Still struggling, not sure why, but every day is a new day. Going to spend my day off refocusing on my goals and finding new ways to stay inspired.

17. Do you have a special event/date you want to lose the weight for?

Not in particular, however, I do want to be able to wear something nice for Halloween. I also want to lose weight before I get married. As awful as it sounds, I've told my boyfriend that I don't want to get married until I'm slim. I want to be able to walk into a bridal store and buy a dress off the rack. I don't want to get photos taken on my wedding day and be unable to look at them. I'm doing this for all the special events in my future.

18. Try to use as little salt as possible today or maybe even none! Don’t buy microwave meals and don’t eat foods high in sodium.

I'm going to do this tomorrow, since the day is basically done. It sounds like a good challenge that is beneficial :).

You're doing great Loch! Hope you managed to get refocused on your day off and can move forward today.

I totally get the wanting to be slim for your wedding. It's why I'm trying to lose weight. Sadly I should have lost it all already, but I've been very slow and not strict enough with myself. You WILL get there!

19. Are you losing weight the healthy (<2lbs/week) or the unhealthy (>2lbs/week) way?

Well, I'm told that 3lb a week isn't that bad for me, so I strive for 3lb a week. I would never try for more than that a week, as that's too much. I think I may need to work on 2lb a week though, as I think 3lb may be too much.

I've decided to make a homemade treadmill desk. I just need some wood, and fasten it, and it'll be wonderful. I'm gonna get back into World of Warcraft, and writing, and see if I can do it. I thought to myself...if I can burn so many calories standing on my feet for 7 hours at work, why not try it at home? I'm gonna start with 2 MPH and adjust from there. Even if I'm just standing there I'll burn extra calories.

Feeling motivated again. I hope it sticks! March isn't over yet. I need to say NO to the party food and yes to the carrot sticks! Or something, haha!

20. Who is your biggest weight loss inspiration and why?

Hm, there have been a few people that have inspired me. When I went from 249 - 199 I was inspired by my brother. He started working at one of my employer's other stores. In doing so, he began walking every day he worked, and eating better. He lost a lot of weight and it was really cool. I wanted to lose weight with him, he even bought me a gym pass.

Before that, I was shocked by a customer of mine. He was a chubby fellow that came in regularly. He was gone for a while, and when I saw him again, he was RIPPED. It was as if he had become a new man. He told me that he bought a home gym and spent hours, sometimes 8 hours, exercising. It was crazy...but it made me think that I would love to be that healthy.

Lastly, when I joined this forum there were a few members who were really supportive (IrishPrincess, Tete) but one of them had lost so much weight I was floored. Frogged did SO much to get to where he is today...although he's disappeared. A few years ago, knowing what he had gone through, inspired me to change as well.

So, I see inspiration all around :). I think that this forum gives me so much inspiration, so many of the members here have lost weight, or have stuck to their dream, and I find that to be an amazing thing.

I seem to have pulled a muscle in my lower back at TOPS. I was putting away my chair, turned, and felt a strange twinge. Needless to say, I've been in bed all day. Have to go to work though =/. Hope it goes away soon.

I lose .5 of a lb at TOPS, which is better than a gain. Today, I weighed in at 264.2 which is -4lb from yesterday! I knew eating bad would take a toll, but thankfully it wasn't as bad as I thought.

21. Do you focus more on getting lean and mean or tiny and fragile?

I want to be lean and mean, totally. I want to build up my strength and climb mountains. I want to be able to trek across long distances and get the best out of life. I don't care for being tiny or fragile, that's not ideal for living life to the fullest, for me.
