Hi everyone :D

My name is Ginger....well my real name is Ginger, my user name is Pink Clouds and for some odd reason I am very fond of being called Pink or Pink Clouds...so you can call me Ginger, Pink, Pink Clouds... whatever you want:D I've been on the board for a while but finally decided to start a diary. You are welcome here..I have a genuine love for people and I care about the wellbeing of others..so...feel free to share your journey here as well.

I currently weight 282lbs and my goal weight is 135lbs. I am 5'3" and quite small framed so my ideal weight as given by my doctor is 115...but I am starting with a goal of 135 and giving myself 20 months to do this. 20 months is not that bad eh? :coolgleamA: That's 7.35 lbs a month...I think its modest.

Right now I am converting my lifestyle to a healthy one, so it means I am changing everything to fit exercise, eating right, meditation, and self actualization into my everyday life. I have already started exercise and eating healthy so I am on my way :D I am doing things the Ayurvedic way :D Which I just started truly a couple of weeks ago but I began learning about the Ayurveda a month ago. I quote from Wikipedia: "Ayurveda (Devanagari: ????????) or Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient system of health care that is native to the Indian subcontinent." The Ayurveda is over 5000 years old and has even had its influence on modern medicine.

I'm vata dosha 100%....if you want to know more about your dosha (body type) and what Ayurvedic medicine is...here is a link....

I'm a bit of a novice, but I am happy to be a novice at this point because it truly feels like a journey! I do not agree with EVERYTHING about it, and I still adhere to modern medicine, but I was amazed with the knowledge they had about me by my body type and I do feel better now that I am eating to balance my dosha.

Well off to work for me:nopity: Have a great day everyone!!

Hi Alex :D

Thanks for the compliments on the title and also the siggy :rotflmao: when I first read it I almost died laughing.

Ginger, spice and everything nice is catchy, but ginger, spice, everything nice, and a bat wing is even better :p Thanks for wishing me Good luck also my wooden broomed friend :D I hope you reach all of your goals as well:hurray:

I did OK today I give myself three stars out of five....I had a liter of water, Kashi Heart to Heart cereal (which I swear that stuff looks like cat food, but I love it none the less), a healthy sandwich with generous veggies for lunch and for dinner is the minus 2 stars.....hate to admit it but i did some lasagna and salad. Not too much lasagna, but still I would have done better without it I think. Had some intense deadlines to meet at work today so I did not have time for the gym. But tomorrow...ahhh tomorrow....gym here I come!! I'm going to do an hour tomorrow come hell or high water. Although I really hope high water does not come because there is a water treatment plant near here and I think that would be gross :ack2:

Hey there Ginger,

I'm glad you started a diary, I was actually looking for it before. I bought my mom Kashi Heart to Heart cereal because I live with her so she's gonna diet too, plus it says on the box that it helps to cut cholestrol and that's what she needs. It does look like cat food! lol. I eat protein cereal cuz I think that's what I need.

Anyway, That Ayurvedic thing sounds interesting, I'm gonna go there and take the quiz just for fun as soon as I can.

Definitely get to that gym in the morning. Thanks for stopping by my diary. Take care!

Dani

Hi there :beerchug: fellow chocolate junkie :D

Hey Pink!!

I'm always interested in reading the diaries on here as it makes me realise that I'm not the only one out there that's going through this stuff!!!!!

Only this week, I did the transformation of my lifestyle into a healthy one. Only a week and I feel all the more better for it!!

I'm glad to hear you hit the gym in the morning!! I'm practically nocturnal so my life doesn't start until well into mid-morning at the earliest (mid-morning for me is areound 11.30am :blush5: )

I think your goal is very realistic. I want to lose 20kg (I'm an Aussie so pounds and stones don't mean that much to me) and I've given myself two years to do it in. I think it fits my personality more that way too!!!

I'll keep an eye out for your progress and I wish you all the luck in the world!!!

Hiiiiiii Alex,Danni, and Emma :D:waving:

Okay so Alex I went to the gym this morning...I woke @ 6:30 but I was like a zombie @_@ so I did not leave the house until like 7:10. I worked out for 30 minutes and did one mile ...but of course 30 minutes means i have to rush like heck to get to work late :p (j/k).

Hiya Dani :D I did the ayurveda test first on tickle because I was bored and just wanted to do it for fun. Its pretty cool lol. I hope you are 100% some dosha because then you will be amazed at how they tell you about yourself...I used this site for more insight into the body types.

(you can delect the different types toward the bottom right)To be 100% anything is rare and to be all three body types equally is even more rare. But its fun stuff :p I'm not having any cat food this morning...I think I will have to skip breakfast unfortunately..I have some meeting until 1:00 today!! I really do not know who makes this things in corporate America...uff! I want to tell u something I learned about cholesterol but i have to run!!

Hi Emma:) I think your goal is way realistic and you will definitely meet it!! I always use a metric converter to convert pounds into kgs at world wide metric . com. Its pretty good. I am so happy to hear that the changes you have made are working well for you so far...the good thing is it will only continue to get better as time progresses. I believe that you already converted my weight...but out of courtesy I would like to do it again if you do not mind :D I weigh 127 KG and my goal is 61K so i will be losing more than half of myself !!!

Well take care all have a vibrant day filled with pure bottled water and crisp veggies :D:hurray:

hay pink thanks for visiting my diary i thought i would return the favour! i hate to wake up that early, a couple of years ago i forced myself to get up at 5:30 and do 1hr and 30mins of yoga everyday, i would never do it again i need my sleep!

Hey Kotki :grouphug: Thanks for stopping in!! You know the crazy thing is I do not use an alarm clock!!! I wake up everyday between 5 and 7 regardless of the time i go to bed :svengo: Even 3 am!! Most of the time I wake between 5:30 and 6:00. Its so crazy!

Besides exercising I did not do so well today. I had those crunchy oat granola bars for breakfast and some water, chicken and veggies for dinner, and the bad part....Fast food for lunch :svengo: A coworker pleaded with me to go with her because she wanted to talk...oyyy....but you know it is not like i could not have the salad. It was my choice to do the chicken sandwich. But hey one day at a time right? Tomorrow will be better :) ohh I almost forgot I had like 60 ounces of water....not bad.

i know what you mean about the fast food but remember everything in moderation and take every day as it comes like you said! good going on the water well done!
i cant believe that you wake up so early! i suppose my excuse is that iam still a teenager just 7 mths to the day and i will be 20! Lol
Good luck for tomorrow!

Happy upcoming birthday Kotki :D:party:

I'm not as young as you are but still young so I doubt that's it. I sleep light and am somewhat of an insomniac when things are on my mind. Last night i went to bed after 1 and woke at 5:55 exact. Am I tired, you betcha, could I go back to sleep for another hour, yes difinitely...but too much is on my mind:svengo:

I'm not going to the gym this morning everybody...I really feel drained!!! I have been dealing with two rather different people at work and I cannot stop thinking about it. One of them is an alcoholic and she flies off the handle a bit. Well to be honest even when she flies off the handle about random things it does not bother me, but she is always trying to act as if I am not so great because management has expressed to me and everyone that they are impressed with my work. We even had a meeting yesterday and she was talking about herself and some others that do an incredible amount of work and our boss said, "Well lets not forget Ginger," to which she got very angry and said "NO she has no idea what hard work is like!!" I was like Okkkk.....:leaving: I started to tell her about the contributions I have made and she started yelling and got a bit belligerent. So I just let her carry on. Then there is another one who has taken a liking to insulting me in social settings. I try to go easy on her because she has a lot of self esteem issues and says openly at times that she hates herself...but I have never been a "take crap" type of person and its actually adverse to my nature. In this meeting yesterday she also insulted my person in the most inappropriate manner. I was going to insult her back but did not because really I think that is what she wants so I just gave her a real dirty look AND would you believe she still kept bothering me after that!!!

Well I know how to handle these people unprofessionally :boxing: but really needed guidance on how to handle them professionally so I did some research on coping with difficult personality types. I found some good articles which I will post here for any that are going through the same thing...but I cannot post the link because they are selling stuff I think. I will not put anything into action today because I am still pissed, but once I calm down I will address them accordingly ;) I am also thinking of buying this book called "Coping With Difficult People" by Robert M. Bramson, Ph.D. Hopefully this will be of help as well.

I know this is a weight loss diary :blush5: but I think it is important to discuss these things. It has definitely impacted me as a person, and even my weight loss progress as I am too exhausted and drained to work out today.

Learning to Deal With Difficult People

THE BOTTOM LINE: Difficult people can make your work day less enjoyable. With the right strategies, you can learn to deal with them effectively.

If you have to work with difficult people every day, you probably dread going to work each morning. What's more, you might get so stressed that you can't concentrate on the job.

Have you ever wondered why some people are difficult to work with?

“Individuals behave in a difficult manner because they have learned that doing so keeps others off balance and incapable of effective action. Worst of all, they appear immune to all the usual methods of communication and persuasion designed to convince or help them change their ways,” says Robert M. Bramson, Ph.D., author of coping With Difficult People.

Bramson offers the following strategies for coping with such people.

How to Cope

Avoid these “don'ts” when dealing with difficult people:

* Don't take dfficult people's behavior personally. Their troublesome behavior is habitual and affects most people with whom they come in contact.

* Don't fight back or try to beat them at their own games. They have been practicing their skills for a lifetime, and you're an amateur.

* Don't try to appease them. Difficult people have an insatiable appetite for more.

* Don't try to change them. You can only change your responses to their behavior.

Here's how you can cope effectively with four common types of difficult people.

Openly Aggressive People

Stand up to them, but don't fight. Overly aggressive people expect others to either run away from them or react with rage. Your goal is simply to assertively express your own views, not try to win a battle of right and wrong.

First, wait for the person to run out of some steam. Then call the person by name and assert your own opinions with confidence.

Snipers

Difficult people are experts at taking potshots and making sneak attacks in subtle ways, such as humorous put-downs, sarcastic tones of voice, disapproving looks and innuendoes.

You may feel uncomfortable replying to them because you don't like confrontation. This, however, allows snipers to get away with their covert hostility.

Respond to a sniper with a question. “That sounds like you're making fun of me. Are you?” A sniper usually replies to such accusations with denial, “I'm only joking.”

Nevertheless, questioning covert attacks will reduce the chance for similar attacks in the future.

Complainers

These are fearful people who have little faith in themselves and others because they believe in a hostile world. Their constant discouragement and complaining can bring everyone to despair.

“Don't try to argue these difficult people out of their negativity. Instead, respond with your own optimistic expectations,” says Bramson.

Silent People

People who ignore you, give you sullen looks, and/or respond to every question with either “I don't know” or silence are difficult because they're timid. Silent people get away with not talking because most people are uncomfortable with silence and are too quick to fill in the gaps. Ask them questions that can't be answered with just a “yes” or “no,” such as, “Why is it uncomfortable for you to answer my questions?”

Then wait at least one full minute before you say anything. This long silence may make them uncomfortable enough to say something. If they do start talking, listen carefully.

Don't Give Up

Dealing with difficult people takes practice, so don't get discouraged.

Although these strategies won't change the difficult people, they will break their ability to interfere with your effectiveness,” says Bramson. “Most important, you'll feel more confident and you'll start to enjoy your workdays.”

Today was cool :coolgleamA: It's amazing how lack of sleep makes you completely care nothing about the surrounding drama :D

I really had a great and peaceful day today. Zero stress...zero strife..really very nice :) I really need to go to my bed to make up for lost sleep BUT I had to make this entry. I am planning on working out in the morning. I think I will be able to get all of the sleep I need. I am thinking about cooking for myself the entire weekend. I think it would help to change my ways

Have a good nite and a great tomorrow everyone :)

Hey Ginger :)

Sounds like your off to a great start and have some great goals to reach. I wish you great luck in meeting all of them.

Work sounds kind of stressful for you. I have similar issues go on at my works sometimes. It's crazy how an office setting (at least for me) can bring out the crazies in some people.

PS. That is a beautiful picture in your avatar. It looks like Liya Kebede.

Have a great nite,
Sam

Ginger,

Sorry that you're having problems with people at work. That's a good article you have there. I hope you're sleeping well though!!

Hmm, so I took the quiz. It said that my overall Dosha is Vata. But I had Vata the most, then Pitta, then Kapha. I'm not sure what that means, but I do have a small frame (although I'm quite large) and there are some other characteristics that fit with me as well. Not sure what to think of it all, but it was fun to think about. I'm gonna read the stuff on the Vata diet, looks interesting.

What was that thing you wanted to tell me about cholesterol?

Thanks Sam :D I am trying hard to meet them...I am tired of being wishy washy with this thing :p You are tooo sweet.....well guys do not normally like that compliment, so I will just say you're a very nice guy :)

Sorry to hear that you have to go through some of the same things @ work on occasion, but it seems you do not let it get to you so much, and that is good. I am trying to learn how to deal with them. My office setting is VERY unprofessional lol even though it is supposed to be one of the most professional areas. It's nice that it's laid back but geez ...sometimes it gets out of hand.

Thanks for telling me her name :D you are right it is her!! Liya Kebede. She is freaking gorgeous!! I just saw this picture and am thinking of making it my avatar permanently....or until I get the guts to put up my picture :D She looks like she could be in my family (especially in this picture). I have some of the most beautiful people in my family. Well...almost anyone can look like they are in my family because we have people from all different races and nationalities :rotflmao: One of my friends once told me that coming to our parties is like going to a united nations meeting with music :p I have attached a bigger version of this pic for anyone who wants to see her.

hay ya i hope you got all the sleep you needed last night and that you are feeling better!

Hi Dani :D

What I wanted to tell you about cholesterol is that our body makes all of the cholesterol it needs so everything else we put in is added. I have heard that the best way to lower cholesterol is to exercise. I found this article for you :D

Too cool ;) you are a vata. It is not common for vatas to be overweight like we are. If your kapha or pita is close to the amount of your vata you could be a combination of doshas or body types. But if you are truly vata, the only ways that we gain weight are by eating foods with poor quality...like junk food and fast food or by eating too much food. That is me 100% The good news is we lose weight quickly when we eat the right foods...so hang in there!

It is fun to learn about even if you are not applying it to your life. One of the things I thought was cool is that vatas are not recommended to eat too much raw vegetables and I personally do not like salad so often or raw veggies. The only veggies I like raw are stringbeans and carrots :D which coincidentally are vata foods...I love all of the vata foods so in this respect i think the ayurveda is too cool :coolgleamA:

Hi Pink:)

Congrats on all your effort so far!!! Having a diary helps so much! Keep on and you will reap the rewards:) My goal weight is also around 61 kilos. May I ask how tall you are?

I hope you have a lovely weekend

Skinny wishes
