From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

Hey girl... WOW that is so great!! Your doing a wonderful job:)
Keep it girl! You looked so cute in your shirt:)
WOW running 5 miles on Sunday, I know you will do great!

Wow Tyly! Ur unstopable! I want to be able to do 5 milers eventually too, just at the speeds I'm running now. I'm so happy that this C25K has been such a positive experience for you, and that your continuing your training:)

Good Luck on Sunday's run, I know you can do it. As we both know, running is very physical but at the same time there is a such a huge mental part of it too. If you commit to it, you can do it my friend ;)

have a great day, and a happy TLD too for that matter, hehe

I couldn't have done any of it without the love and support of my friends!!!

Just think how nervous you were when you ran your first 5 minutes or 8 minutes too. =) It's awesome that you are continuing on and going for a 10K. I think I'll do what you are doing. Although I'm not sure I could go straight from running 3.1 miles to running 5 miles YIKES!!!!! :ack2: Good luck on that, and I say continue updating in the C25K section too if you want! :hurray:

Thanks! I do need to pop in there (C25K) every now and then!

Thank you for reminding me of how hard it was to accomplish 5 minutes of running! I felt like I couldn't do it, but I proved myself wrong! Hopefully this will go the same way!

I am going to take over an hour to do it, I'm sure. I just hope I can run the entire thing without stopping! Running is a lot more mental than physical for me. I always feel like I want to stop even though my body can keep going... I have to force myself to keep going. But when I do keep going, I am always so proud of myself in the end. That's what I try to focus on. It is a constant battle for me!

I think that's why I do it. It's not so much that I love to run (I don't!).... it's more about the fact that I love to succeed! I love how I feel after I have truly challenged myself, and I love how it feels when my body has accomplished something that I never thought it could. I don't hate running, but I don't love it. But I love how it feels to succeed more than I hate running. Make any sense?

Do you have a five mile course that you run, or just around a track? I find that for myself, if I can stop at any moment, then I really want to. If I'm still two or three miles from home, then I really don't have a choice but to keep going.

I just run all around my neighborhood. I do what it seems like you do...

I run away from my house for over half of the distance, and then I tell myself that all I have do do is run home! Sometimes I fall for it!

:)

That is such a good description of how most of us probably feel about running. Definitely requires constant pushing to keep going and you do feel so good when you've kept it up. Pretty much describes most exercise, though running is particularly grueling!

I'm glad it made sense! I wasn't sure if I was best saying what I was trying to say (wow - more jumbled words! lol!)

I do it for the feeling of accomplishment after the fact. That is what really makes it all worth it to me!

I just wish I was one of those "I love it so much!" kind of people. I hear people say how it clears their minds, how it's their form of release, how it's their alone time, etc...

It's none of those things for me. It is something for me to defeat!

That's exactly how I feel about running Tyly. I always love the feeling of accomplishment when I run, and I do like succeeding too. I love the way running makes my body feel though. I like putting my body thru that kind of stress and the way it feels for the rest of the day. It also helps me decompress and relax.

I know it sounds dumb, but I wish I could run in the morning. I would rather start my day with it, plus the weather is much nicer then! I feel like that would help me enjoy it more. I don't enjoy it as much as I could, because I work all day, drive home 30 minutes, then change and run in the heat. Of course I would love to just lay on the couch when I get home, but I love the way I feel about myself after a good run. I can't just lay around and do nothing without guilt.

I can't run in the morning since I wake up at 5:20 as it is, because I have to drive 30 minutes to get to work. I just DO NOT have enough drive to wake up at 4:00 in order to give me enough time to run and shower.

Your only human Tyly :) I'm lucky because my work schedule allows me to workout in the morning because I don't have to be there until noon, and I also only work 4 days per week usually, so it all works in my favor right now, and I'm very lucky. I don't always have the drive to get out of my bed even at 9am, lol. I'm kind of an insomniac and my body has a hard time going to sleep when I want it to sometimes. The exercise helps but it's still something I deal with.

I am somewhat with you on the feeling about running...lol. While I'm running, I cannot wait until the podcast tells me I can walk again..lol. But after I'm done, the feeling is great--mentally that I accomplished something, and physically I can feel that my body got a workout.

Good luck with the next phase of your running. Are you going to do a 4 mile run before tackling the 5 mile?

I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to get up at 4am to run. I often don't get to bed until 4am. :D There's no way on earth I'd get up that early to exercise. One of my co-workers does that, and I think she's insane. :)

I despise running, personally.

Hey, I said this in my journal, but that description of how you felt when you finished the race was awesome. You have so much to be proud of and knocking that many minutes off your goal time is incredible.

Your rock!

Man! That sounds like a great schedule!! :D

I agree! The mental and physical feeling of accomplishment is great!

I think I am just going to try it and see what happens. If I feel my body giving out on me before the 5 miles, I will stop. But I am going to make sure that it is my body giving out, and not just my mind wanting me to stop!

Thanks Steve! That means a lot! :)

Oh. My. Gosh.

6 second grade classes on a field trip to a farm. Enough said!

I am sooo exhausted! I really could go to sleep for the night right now, but I have very important shows to watch tonight! :)

I am supposed to run 3 miles today and rest tomorrow, but I am going to switch them. I'm resting today and running tomorrow! I can't even fathom running 3 miles right now!

The only thing that sucks is that I weigh in tomorrow. So much for a last chance workout! Oh well... I have worked out 4 of the last 5 days, and I have been eating well, so hopefully I will still be ok!

In your locale, I can understand the morning run, for sure. I reckon that afternoon jogging is pretty much not gonna happen unless you follow a water truck and have an ambulance behind you.

What is this thing you people call 'morning' anyway ??

Yup I'm the "run to prove I can" not the "like, oh my god, I so love it" type. I hope that I will one day suddenly wake up and love it. Can that happen?

I can't believe how you're just whipping through the 150's. Great Job!

I just read you're race results. Amazing job!!! Very motivating. I haven't signed up for one yet, but I'm thinking that August may be the month. We'll see.
