From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

Hi! :)

As many of you know, I am Tyly (tie-lee).

I decided to start a brand new diary to record my journey.

A little about me for those who don't know:

I am 25 years old, and I am a second grade teacher in Texas. I have a great boyfriend (James), and we live together with our two furbabies, Max (dog), and Bo (cat). He has also decided to join me in a quest to get healthy, and I couldn't be more excited about that! He has been a great source of support, and I think he may poke around here to check out the site. I am always telling him how great it is!

At my heaviest (December, 2006), I weighed 210 pounds and tightly wore a size 16 pants.

I decided to make a change, and in the spring (January, 2007) I joined this amazing site! I went down to 178.4 pounds and comfortably wore a size 14 pants. Unfortunately, it didn't stick that time, and I went back up to 194 pounds and struggled to get into the size 14s.

This winter (November, 2007), I decided that I had enough! It was time to get back on the wagon, and I was 100% determined to make it a permanent change.

I have since gone down to 167.0 pounds, and I am in a size 10 pants. Those are both numbers that I had not seen since early college, so I am thrilled!

Thrilled, but not finished! :D

I started the Couch - 5K Program this January, and I am now in Week 7 (of 9). I was an absolute running beginner. Week 1 has you start with 60 seconds of jogging, and I have since been able to conquer 25 without stopping! I'm sure I could do more, but I am following the program very strictly.

I am very proud of the fact that I am now training for a specific 5K! I am going to run in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on May 3! It benefits breast cancer, so it is something that I am very proud of. I am hoping to be able to complete it in 30 minutes, but only time will tell!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

:)

Hey Trevor! My very first visitor in the new diary! :)

I see you live in Austin... I am only about an hour from there!

I am very nervous and excited about the 5K! It's still so crazy for me to grasp the fact that I am even physically capable to do it! I have always been the anti-runner.

I still consider myself a beginner, but I am a work in progress!

Thanks for stopping by! :D

And I don't know if you ever saw my reply, but the virtual chocolates you sent me on Valentine's Day are my favorite kind... calorie free! :D

lol, no problem on the virtual chocolates, i love them too!

I was actually just looking for a 5k to run in up here in college station while i attend college and found one for Friday night!! My roommates said they would do it with me ( they are all in great shape) and im pretty sure i can get one done, so i might do it. I will let you know how it goes if i actually attend it. Its a night 5k which is cool and supports orphanages in the area. Its only 10 dollars and comes with a shirt.

New diary time!!!! Hooray!

I can't believe you've gone clear from a tight 16 to a 10. That is amazing.

I bet you will have no problemo getting thru that 5k in 30 minutes.

You are a warrior!

Oh Sammy! One of my favorites!

Not only do you bring sexy into my diary, but you also bring such kind words of support!

:D

Ohhh a new diary, how fun! Congrats on getting so far in your couch-5K program. It's amazing that you went from not running just a few weeks ago to running 25 minutes straight this week! What makes it even better is that you have kind of a "goal" to run that 5K in May and it benefits breast cancer :)

The program really is great! I am so thankful for the confidence it has given me. If you would have asked in December if I could run just one mile, I would have said, "NO WAY!"

Thanks again for the support!

:)

Aha--a new diary eh?

Well, I'll be the first to wish you a happy TLD and throw in a boobie soaping as well. I hope James doesn't mind. He can help me if he wants. ;)

Your couch to 5k results are fantastic and very inspiring. I'm very impressed by your dedication. :)

No worries about James minding! I don't even know if he'll ever pop in. I keep trying to tell him how great this place is! :)

Thank you for the sweet support of my runnning! I am starting Week 7 today!

I'm sorry you have knee troubles!

I am on Week 7, but I'm not excited about running today. The wind is somewhere around 30 mph! Yuck! Last time I ran in the wind my mouth and throat were so dry! But I'm too stubborn to deviate from my plan, so run I will! :D

Cool, new journal.

I only read the first post, but a huge congrats on the weight loss and the motivation for the 5k! Quite impressive.

:)

Thanks.

I'm doing well thanks. I kept seeing this thread and I didn't even realize it was a journal or that it was started by you.

Just run with the wind against your back--it'll help propel you forward..lol. Then you'll run like the wind. Bad pun, I know. :sifone:

Lately weight loss has been moving so slowly for me! I was really hoping for 2 pounds this week, because I have been so good! Exercise every day, eating right every day... ugh. I know I am due to start on Tuesday, so I'll blame it on that! :)

Bring on March! I hope the pounds come off a bit more quickly then! :)

From the February 2 pound challenge:

February 1st - 172.6
February 8th - 171.6
February 15th - 167.8
February 22nd - 167.0
February 29th - 166.0

Total Weight Lost: 6.6 Pounds
