From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Well that really sucks for you.
I don't know what I would do without garlic. That's one of the best spices to use to liven up a meal.

Great job on the run also.

I'm mourning the loss of garlic folks. I LOVE garlic. This sucks and I really hope it doesn't end up being onions too. My wife is bummed because now she can't cook with it even though she has no issue with it and we can't really eat out anywhere any more. The bright side is that maybe my psoriasis flare up has been because of the garlic allergy. My intermittent stomach woes might be the same deal. I am going to try onion this evening.

The run felt great! I feel really good today after it. My throat is tender still from the garlic, but otherwise I feel great. I did do 60 on 60 on purpose Oaks.

268.8 for a new low this morning.
-80.4 since joining 12/12
-64.4 since 2014
-35.4 since 10/14

69.8 pounds left to lose (199) so I'm under 70 and close to halfway done from my 2014 start weight (266). 70 is a lot, but that is to skinny as far as I am concerned. Considering it was 105.2 left to lose in October <70 sounds okay.

If I lose at the same rate I'll be at the low end of the 230's by the end May.

Here is why I think that loss rate is possible:
1. Oct.-Dec. includes holiday overindulgence and here to May doesn't
2. Running every day didn't start until late November so a third of that time period wasn't daily running.
3. I quit sodas and artificial sweetners completely.
4. My new found allergy will prevent eating out and processed food even more than before.
5. I want it to.

I have a non-overweight co-worker that is 6 ft and 220. At 6' 3" 230 would put me at the same pound per inch as him. I have a larger frame than he does so I may look slimmer than him by 230.

So my goal for May 31st is 230 pounds.

You´re doing great. You will find other herbs&spices to enjoy just as much as you now love the garlic and if you´re good about avoiding it I don´t expect onions and their friends to follow suit. And if it helps solve undefined stomach woes AND the psoriasis flare-up... there´s actually an up-side to it. Still sucky though.

Well done on the new low Q. That is really good news! I have some weird & not so wonderful food in-tolerances. If I eat Capsicum the soles of my feet feel like they're on fire, yet I am fine with the other deadly nightshade family. Hopefully you will be fine with onion!

Thanks LaMa I'll adapt!

Thanks Cate! That's a really weird food reaction.

Day 61
1 mile
9:09
A fast mile followed by a terrible asthma attack. I'm guessing it had to do with the recent allergy crap. Out of town starting tomorrow. Food should be a pain in the ass. Packing 3 kinds of antihistamine. I had oatmeal for dinner just to be super safe.

I really appreciate that Chef! I needed that today.

You're welcome, man. And, hey...I needed some inspiration, so thank YOU.

So I had an allergic reaction to the new meat substitute we had for dinner last night. My throat swelled up, My skin broke out, and my guts are wrecked. The benadryl and inhaler kept me from needing a doctor's visit, but I feel pretty cruddy today. My stomach is still gross and my throat is tender, but mostly I have a bad headache now that I am trying to drown with water. It didn't bother my wife at all and i don't have an allergy to any of the listed ingredients. Something in the spices or a new allergy. The only thing that I know I am allergic too is shellfish and mushrooms. It didn't have the effect that mushrooms do and it is vegan so no shellfish.

I will likely have another easy run tonight, unless I feel better by then.

Happy Friday!

Dude..."meat substitute." I have never heard a more disgusting sounding combination of two words in my life. Well, maybe I have. I take that back. I mean, "testicle fungus," "anal straw," "fetus meatballs" and "Glenn Beck" are pretty vomit inducing.

INGREDIENTS: PECANS, GARBANZO BEANS, ORGANIC WHOLE GRAIN GLUTEN FREE CORNMEAL, GARLIC, ONION, SEA SALT, SPICES.

Spices or a newly developed allergy are the only options. I eat plenty of all of that without issue. I've had all of those ingredients in the past week as a matter of fact so I am guessing spice of some kind. I also ate flax meal as an egg replacement in the mix and that hasn't bothered me in the past either. I won't eat the Neat brand stuff again and I will test the flax out on my skin and tongue before I consume any more.

I've never seen lupin as a food ingredient here. That's assuming you mean a legume from the genus Lupinus and not a common name for something else that we call a different name. I don't generally have problems with any legume. Peas and beans are a large part of my diet. My primary protein source actually.

A) I HATE when food companies put shit like "spices" as an ingredient. I mean, WHAT spices? I wish the USDA and FDA wouldn't allow such vagueness when it comes to food companies having to be transparent about what is in the food we're eating. I also hate when food companies are allowed to put stuff like "natural flavors" and crap like that. UGH!!! As a chef, it irritates me, but as a consumer it just straight up pisses me off.

B) I hope you feel better, dude. Having an allergic reaction to something you ate is NOT COOL. Not cool at all. In my professional experience, I would assume the vague "spices" in the mixture you consumed happened to contain something that doesn't agree with your body. Unfortunately, the USDA doesn't regulate that food labels contain exactly what spices and flavorings are added to the foods that are sold to the public because, (once again) unfortunately, the huge portion of the general public doesn't possess an allergy to common spices. However, it IS possible to be allergic to certain spices. And, consuming said spices (such as cinnamon, pepper, etc) can trigger some very unpleasant reactions.

Sorry to hear that. Food allergies really suck. My coworkers try to kill me on a semi regular (accidental) basis with peanuts. Makes training that much harder. Good job still. Just take it easy. We have found that exercise makes the reaction worse depending on the exposure.

Thanks everybody!
Day 62 1 mile 13:00
Slow mile on a shitty treadmill.

Thanks Mystic! Asthma since birth.

It is defiantly garlic Chef. I'm very sad about it. My father grows it organically and it set me off.

Hi Wanna! Nut allergy would suck. Sorry.

Thanks GGH! That's my second best time I think.

Thanks Mystic! I have to have my run now. I'm making my addictive tendencies work in my favor for once.

Oaks I hate a damn treadmill. If I had to run on one everyday I would find another hobby. It was dark and I was in a strange town in a crappy part near the interstate so the crappy treadmill was my safest bet.

Quite happy to be back home and running the indoor track. It was a beautiful day today in the 70s, but after a pretty tough day in the woods followed immediately by a 3 hour truck ride I was needing to get the run done before I crashed. I also found very little to eat in the crap town's small grocery store and was starved with about 800 calories for the day before dinner. It was 78 where I worked today and I sweat a lot. After colder temperatures 78 and sunny felt really warm.

Day 63
1 mile
10 minutes
Ran slower for the first half to loosen up and then faster for the second half with the last 2.5 (1/8th mile) laps very fast to keep some young fit guy from passing me. Yes, I am that petty. I still kicked his butt. When I finished my mile he was right behind me, but once he passed he slowed down a lot so I know he was trying to pass at least a little.

My wife had a big 3 pound drop so together we have lost 112.4 pounds. I'm hoping my weigh in tomorrow is down a good bit. I feel like spending most of 2 days sweating and hungry should be good for something. I have bat pictures I will share sometime soon.

Haha, love that you kept the 'young fit guy' from passing you! I'm often the same way. It makes for great motivation! That's amazing that you guys have both lost so much!! Congrats!

Ooo bat pictures! And big drops from Mrs Q! And young fit guys not being able to pass! Sounds like you definitely got some rewards from those two crappy days ;)

Big time rewards! 264.6 and we've now lost 116.6 pounds together. Mid 200s and 260s plus I am past my halfway point from 333.2 to 199! I may see a rebound, but a new low is a new low. A 4.2 pound drop from Monday. Thanks everybody! Bat pictures later this morning.

That 'petty' behavior will pay dividends when you get hooked on racing. One of my friends ran her best 5k because there was a girl in a swishy skirt that she refused to let beat her. Find someone to beat or pace with, that's all there is to it.

LMAO!!!!!!
That reminds me of a quote I once seen about running on a treadmill.

"To the people on the treadmills on the left and right of me, Yes we are racing and yes I am winning "

I always think about that when I have to run on a treadmill and someone else is running on the treadmill next to me. And for some reason I have a tendency to look to see what their speed is and how long they are running.

The eastern red bat (Lasiurus borealis) sleeps hanging from one leg in trees mimicking a dead leaf. this one chose an evergreen yaupon holly so it made him easier to spot.

Oaks I feel it was a bit petty because we weren't racing. I should be competing against myself until I am actually competing against someone else. That said I won't hesitate to do it again, but it will still be a little petty. I suppose that had I sped up and left him then it would be all me, but once he sped up to keep trying to pass then we both were participants.
