From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Cate, it's so funny you say that, today during my run, I was actually thinking of starting a 'WorkoutStreak' and trying to decide if January 2 would be day 1 or day 37.... Guess I am ready for a new challenge :)

Thanks Cate, Oaks, and Sun!

Cate, I always enjoy doing stuff for my wife. Everything else is a chore. We watch holiday movies and exchange presents and that's it for our personal xmas. No tree, no dinner, no guests, and no fuss.

I have to admit that now that I am working through my pain issues I am entertaining the idea of extending the streak again. It will largely depend on how the next few days go.

I let one day of no calorie counting stretch into 4. I didn't go hog wild, but I did overeat. I'm back to counting today.

Also 276.6 the last 2 mornings up from 274.2 on the 23rd I think. I'd like to end the year at a new low. Below 275 would be a huge milestone too.

1.5 miles
1 mile was in 9:27 for a new PR
Last .5 mile was slow

Day 33
1 mile
12:46

I'm still doing the foam rolling every day. The back felt crappy today, but I have realized that the nerve pain medicine makes me feel as bad as the pain. I went fishing this morning and I think that bumping around in the boat aggravated it. My hip felt really good so that's something.

I ate too much today. My father brought xmas leftovers on the fishing trip. It was yummy!

My 1 day of no calorie counting turned into 4 too! Funny how that happens, huh. lol. Hope your back gets to feeling better! :)

Q, that Christmas sounds absolutely perfect. I was a grinch this year because I didn't have the motivation to do fun gifts for my family and then I just felt guilty about not doing anything. And Christmas isn't supposed to be about obligations and guilt.

Only a couple more days of the official streak!! Are we back to the decision to continue on or are you taking some time off? You can always start a new streak next week after you've had some rest. Aim for 40 days, maybe?

Did I say 4 Jen? Might want to make that 6. New year blah blah fresh start yadda yadda.

I enjoyed the xmas with wifey. The rest of the family interaction was wrought with guilt and apathy. It's tradition!

I have decided not to decide. I'll figure it out on day 37 I guess. I'm pretty sick of running every day at the moment.

Day 34
14:29
1.15 miles

Day 35
12:51
1 mile

Happy New Year!

Resolutions for 2015:

Still not drinking so that's not really a resolution, but not drinking anyway.

No soda diet or otherwise including energy drinks.

No artificial sweetener.

I lost 58 pounds this year and I think I'll do that again. Actually lets make it 75.2 and be done with this weightloss business.

Today marks 1 year of no alcohol. I don't miss it.

The 2014 game plan:

1. Actually lose weight.
~1,800 calories a day.
Meat is limited to wild game, necessity, and social obligation.
Dairy as a rare treat only.

2. Daily exercise.
I can take breaks as needed, but even something minor can be done. Basically no zero days. Even if it's just stretching or some quick body weight exercise, I need to make it part of my day. A habit as ingrained as eating or using the restroom.

3. No alcohol the entire year.
Not one sip for the entire calendar. 1 down 364 to go. Last year I went for more than half the year, but I started drinking when I was laid up with my back woes.

So by 2015:
I will be a year without alcohol. YEP.
I will have a steadfast habit of exercising daily. YEP.
I will have lost 100 pounds. Nope. 58% of that goal.

1,800 calories was stupid. I don't have to exercise every day. 100 pounds didn't happen, but I'm happy to be as far along as I am.

DAY 36 Last day of the Runner's World Winter Run Streak
1.1 miles
15:09
It was 35 and raining which was pretty miserable. I've worked through the sciatic pain so I may continue this streak on my own.

I began counting mileage on my first full half hour run on January 12, 2014. From that date until the end of the year I ran 418.24 miles. I ran 52.06 miles in the 36 day run streak. 1.45 miles a day for the streak and 1.18 miles per day for the year.

280.2 this morning after a lot of food at a new year's party last night. That should go down quickly. Back to calorie counting as of today.

Tomorrow is my 17th wedding anniversary and 21 years together.

We did it!! Thanks again for pushing me to do this. We're fully awesome now.

Happy anniversary!

Happy anniversary to the Qs!!! Have a nice romantic evening playing Yahtzee or something. I'm going to celebrate your big day by looking for some sort of wild game type meal to eat tonight. Hopefully it won't be something like squirrel, but if that's all I can find, so be it...

You've done a fantastic job in the last year or so Q, and I have no doubt you'll do another fantastic job in the next year!

58 pounds?! That's awesome!
I don't think I could take running everyday... I so hate running haha. But good for you for doing it!
I hope you make all your goals for 2015!

Thanks everybody! We went to two big book stores, ate vegan gluten free Mexican food at a vegan diner, and bought a bunch of exotic fruits and veggies at Whole Foods. That's our kind of celebration. We had about 5 hours of driving round trip to do that, but that's the closest big city.

Oaks I guess the wife and I are keeping the streak alive. We ran yesterday and we are going to the indoor track tonight.

Day 37 (1/2/2015)
1 mile
12:13

I ate too much yesterday, but I'm back on track today. I'm also going to try to stay 100% vegan and gluten free at least until my next out of town stretch. The last of the gluten (soy dogs and buns) are now dog treats and I won't buy anymore.

Also 278.8 this morning and 2,300 calories for the day. I'm hoping I can get below 275 pretty quickly as I still feel bloated.

276.8 this morning is down 2 pounds from yesterday with 2.6 pounds above my low. Hopefully most of that will come off quick too. I'm so ready to be below 275. It's my new 300 where it feels like I keep screwing around and not getting past it. Unlike 300 I will only go below it once. Like 300 it will become a distant memory.

My hip really hurts today. I did some stretching and I will do some walking around, but it needs to feel better for me to run. I think I can get there.

Wow Q....you have had an amazing year. Such discipline and positive changes. Good for you for meeting all or a large percentage of your goals for the year. So many people don't even meet one of them! You have proven that a New Year's Resolution can be kept!

It sounds like you and your wife have a wonderful marriage. Over 20 years together and still in love and it sounds like great friends too! Seems like you make good decisions in January :)

I read what you wrote about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on V's journal. I have been reading about that for a while now. Glad to know that you think there is some merit in it. I can see it working when I practice thinking that way, so I will keep practicing!

May 2015 bring you as much success as 2014 did!

Not a doctor or anything, but do you build up your glutes specifically? They can stabilize your hip joints and often provide relief from pain very quickly (if the pain isn´t really from the joint but from the nerves: forget what I said). Great job on the streak, both running and being-married ;)
