From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Thank you Jade! I am pleased with how the year ended up, but it had its ups and downs for sure. I didn't count calories until October and that is why I didn't lose 100 pounds. With the calorie counting and running daily I hope this year will go more smoothly, but as I get smaller the weightloss will slow.

My wife is terrific and I am very happy to be making these changes together. She lost 45 pounds this year and since she is 14 inches shorter than me it really shows.

The self correction stuff has helped me to be more reasonable in my thinking. Not being in constant pain does a lot to help with a positive out looks too. :)

LaMa, I do try to do exercises that build strength for my lower back and hip. It's a fine line between strengthening and aggravating lately. Yoga seems to help as does foam rolling. My glutes have built up a lot with running. I need to start a strength training regiment, but it needs to wait until I'm a bit less spasm prone.

Thanks Oaks! I don't have any plans other than run if I want to.

278.2 this morning. I guess sleeping in late made me more dehydrated yesterday. My first day back to work and the weight was up. I did fine with food yesterday (2,300).

Day 39
1 mile
14:53

Just a slow recovery run. the hip felt better during and after. I did lots of stretching, PT exercises, and foam rolling before the run.

We are going to the gym tonight. The first Monday of the new year so it should be a madhouse, but it was 21 degrees at the house and just getting up for work was an adjustment after vacation. This week will be a challenge to the streak as it is going to be very cold and I hate crowds.

21? In TX? Yikes, it was 33 here in sunny Connecticut!

To mimic everyone else, fantastic year for you, Q, for Mrs. Q, too. Makes things a lot easier when you're doing it together.

RE: back spasms (and to sound like a Concept2 salesman), have you tried a rowing machine? Some slow-going on one with a higher resistance setting (and perfect form) might limber you up a little more.

Don't eat the spam - no matter how tasty it appears, it will give you heart murmurs!

I hit up the gym this morning and was surprised to see the parking lot less crowded than usual. However, that was at 5:45. By 6:30 or so it was a madhouse.

That's awesome that you and your wife have been doing this together! I'm sure it's been helpful to both of you to have each other's support! Hope the gym wasn't too crazy!

Thanks LJ! the weather said 28 for late last night, but it was 21 on our vehicle temp and plenty cold either way. The lows are 22-30 for the rest of the work week with snow predicted for Friday (< 1"). Highs in the 40s and 50s for the first part of the week, but 30s at the end of the week. You have to remember how big Texas is. I'm about halfway between Nebraska and the southernmost tip of Texas. That means nothing really, but we do get winter (some years) it just doesn't stay for long.

I may have to try out the rower. Likely on little resistance at first. It irritated my back when i tried it before, but that was when everything but walking did the same.

Between the cold and our timing I'm sure it will be awful Oaks.

It certainly helps Mystic. I did run on my own for about 6 months so I can speak to how much easier it is to not go it alone, but it can be done. It's almost quitting time so I will know soon enough. If I never come back I was resolutioned to death.

Other than on Saturday I haven't noticed too much increase in new folks at the gym. Maybe some regulars who had slacked off a bit for the holidays, but nothing too severe.

It was brutally cold in Phoenix (at least by Phoenix standards anyway) last week, but it has warmed up nicely today (74 right now). Hopefully I can send some of that your way.

I'll take it! It's right at freezing now.

Day 40 Run
Indoor Track
1 mile
8:55 PR

28 seconds faster

I couldn't wait to be done. The run was like a game of Frogger so I was stoked with my time!

Thanks LJ! Your post is a Jiyuritsu Haiku.

Thanks Hard Cor! (I'm liquefying my brains with Bastard (Japanese Hardcore)as I type.)

Thanks CarolineF! I'm going to try.

I think tonight will be a recovery run (slow mile) because I didn't get nearly enough sleep last night + day 41 in a row. Old man needs sleep.

Also I have to go home and clean a greater Canada goose that was given to me by a coworker. Wild game means a break from being vegan, but I've never had fresh wild goose so it is a nice opportunity. He shot it and packed it on ice so I have to figure out how to clean it in the cold and dark. He also gave me duck breasts, Alaskan salmon, and sea trout which he ditched to make room in his deep freeze for the other geese he shot. I guess he likes shooting/catching things more than eating them. I'm the complete opposite. Either way, SCORE!

Party at Q's house and I'm inviting myself!

I too had sleep issues last night. Had a weird dream where I was 90 years old and my daughter (where'd she come from?) was worried about me. I then couldn't sleep after I woke from it because I lingered on the fact that 90 years old isn't nearly as far away as I would like it to be. tl;dr = I'm insane.

Good luck on the run.

Seems like last night was a bad sleep night for everyone. Maybe my bad night came because my mind was too afraid to have more weird vivid dreams like it had the 2 previous nights.

I'm beat! I ran a mile and the goose was way more work than I thought it would be. After skinning it out and keeping it whole I ended up having to chop it up and debone it to fit it in the damn crockpot. I think it was because I was so tired and hungry, but it really grossed me out. I have been butchering things since I was a young child, but I got queasy for some reason. It's cooking and hopefully I am over it tomorrow so I can eat it. I could only eat a few bites of tofu and veggies after that so I am at about 1,600 calories for the day.

Good night WLF!

Well, I hope you all slept better than me... Enjoy your goose Q, I could eat a mountain of meat today! Won´t, though.

So I slept like a log last night (sorry LaMa).

I weighed in at a new low by 1 pound (274.2).

The goose tastes a bit livery. It would have been better to brine it for a day, but i think I will shred it and mix in a bit of BBQ sauce. It's tender at least.

So yesterday's run
Day 41 of the run streak
1.1 miles
16:30
Very slow run outside. We talked the whole time and just eased along.

So hopefully the new low will stick. I ate too little last night so that certainly contributed. This is my lowest adult weight without prescription drugs.

I'm almost at 10% bodyweight lost since October 1st, 2014 (9.9% from 304.2)
1 pound lost from pre-holiday bloat low (275.2 to 274.2)
6 pounds lost this year (280.2)
30 pounds since October 1st, 2014 (304.2)
59 pounds since January 1st, 2014 (333.2)
75 lost since joining here December, 2012 (349.2)
125.8 from my all time heaviest 2004ish (400)

Also all of those weights from my current scale end in .2. Weird! The scale gives me even tenths place (.0, .2,.4, .6, .8) so there is a 1 in 5 chance that any weigh in is a .2. The odds of 6 random weigh ins all ending in .2 is 1 in 15,625. I beat the odds!

Congrats on the new low. As for the odd scale statistical fluke, I'm trying to grok an alternative explanation other than weird luck, but I can't come up with one.

Thanks! I forgive you since you included a Heinlein reference. The only alternative I could come up with is some non-random tendency in the analog to digital conversion. Since I am woefully ignorant in the field of digital scale firmware algorithms I'll go with an emphatic ugh dun know.

Thansk LaMa! I guess it was more of a "sorry you didn't" than a "sorry I did". Sleep as a zero sum game would have terrifying ramifications.
